Does what it should
Works well. The locking setscrew dropped and was lost the first time using it. It would be nice if the threads were deformed on the end to prevent it from backing out fully.

Not what I thought I was getting
This has the same thread on both ends. It will thread onto a Hose, but not newer spigots. Newer outdoor spigots have a finer thread count vs the hose with a more coarse thread count. Couldn't attach to the spigot coming out of the wall of the house.

Works for preventing exploding garden hoses!
This product is a valve that opens to the sides if there isn't more pressure from the source side holding the valves shut. I had a problem with hoses sitting in the sun and exploding from the pressure buildup. The way this works to prevent this is that if the pressure builds up higher than the source pressure (if the spigot is left on, and controlled by a sprayer, as is our setup) due to the sun heating the water inside, it allows the pressure to relieve through the sides. The only downside to the setup is, as many have mentioned, that when you switch the spigot off, (and the hose isn't open at the other end, ie if it is attached to a sprayer or valve) it will release a quick spurt of water out the sides, and potentially get you wet. This is due to the elasticity of the hose. It would be a lot more of a spurt if you're using a shrinking hose. If there was a higher minimum pressure to allow the valves to open, it would be perfect. But I'll take the minor annoyance to prevent more ruined hoses (and flooded patios).

So far so good
I didn't buy these for what they are used for, instead I am using them in my drip irrigation system as a replacement for the cheap plastic ones they sell you. These brass ones should last much longer, however, take the seals they provide and send them straight to the trash and buy some good red rubber ones instead. The break off screw also hits the trash, stupid rules requiring that like in CA are asinine. Let people make their own damn choice in life. In CA all new houses are required to have one of these installed on every outside hose bib and you will fail inspection if the stupid screw isn't in place and broken off. So for those of you who don't want to trash these to remove them just screw them in a turn or two and bust them off, then if you need to remove the thing to replace a seal you don't have to destroy it and/or the hose bib. The inspector will only look that it is installed and the set screw is broken off, they won't try and remove them.

Works as expected
Our home was built 15 years ago and I recently had to replace the vacuum breakers on our outdoor spigots… what a PAIN IN THE A**. Installing the new ones (which I purchased on Amazon because our local Lowe’s and Home Depot were out) was a simple, quick process. Removing the old ones was another story. I guess I don’t understand why you would put a screw on these which makes them permanent when they WILL eventually fail. I had to watch some YouTube videos on how to get the old ones off. Without a bunch of cutting tools, I decided to drill out the old screw and then make numerous drill holes down the side of the thing until the metal was able to break off. I mean, if someone else knows an easier way, let me know. Needless to say, despite these new breakers coming with those permanent placement screws, I chose to NOT use them. Saves the next SOB a LOT of trouble when they have to replace them.

Update: works great for me
Update review: i made a mistake and thought it was causing pressure loss. This thing works great. Yes it does shoot out water and you will get a little wet . Find another product if you're worried about that.

outdoors only
I didn't understand what the holes around the perimeter were for - now I do. if you're needing a valve that's to be placed indoors (like me) , this valve likely isn't for you. When you shut off the water valve, the downstream water shoots out the holes to relieve the pressure in the system. Quite a mess! Guess this is an outdoor valve...

Great Product
Works great on my outside faucets, stops water from going back in to house pipes from garden hose. Does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Works like a charm; check back in 25 years
The last vacuum breaker I had lasted more than 25 years before it began acting up. We'll see if this one holds up as long (and if I do!).

Complete garbage - spills water while in use worse than any vacuum breaker I've ever seen.
Complete garbage - spills water while in use worse than any vacuum breaker I've ever seen. It basically "explodes" with water every time I stop watering plants. Ended up with more water on the wall and patio than under plants. Stay away from this vacuum breaker unless you prefer your entire property soaked.
