Some things to know
Ok. First thing first. This unit as far as sound quality goes is exactly on par with its price. This is not a high-end quality speaker/sound system, so the reviews about it sounding "tinny" or high in treble, well that's just a bit "i want my cake and eat it too". The people who claim to hear strange sounds or voices, I have no doubt are. There are a couple of logical explanations. Plugging it into an outlet or even another outlet that runs on the same line (breaker) with one that has a TV or some type of media or appliance etc, may cause interference (humming, voice sounds, spooky stuff, grinding, etc). The other is white noise machines, as well as other items that produce constant noise ( ie bedroom fans), are known to cause auditory hallucinations in some people. Your brain is constantly trying to find patterns in things that have no pattern, like seeing animals in clouds, and sleep machine voices are another example of that. I have the latter issue to some extent, no voices. White noise is the only setting I can use for sleep. It seems to have the least amount of loop sound. The other sounds are ok for about 5 minutes and completely acceptable to use if you are listening just as background sound and doing something else. But if that is all you are listening to and trying to fall asleep you may find your brain focused on searching for a pattern. Once it discovers it, because the loop is about every 4-5 seconds it will become fixated on it. Rain for example has a constant soothing drizzle in the background - no problem, but throughout it, there are faint dripping sounds at different sound levels, the way 4 or 5 different leaky shower or faucet drips would sound one after another (BLOOP, bip, bit, BLAP, bit), then it repeats and repeats and repeats. Summer Night has crickets at different sound levels, I found the pattern after about 20 seconds. Some people may notice this others may not. I really doubt a baby or child would but those who have a tendency to be sensitive to something like that may be better off just buying a pure white machine. And even that may not help auditory hallucinations. Would I buy it again? For the price probably. The white noise for me is fine for sleeping and if I'm doing stuff around the house or working in the garage and don't feel like a radio or tv I turn it on. I have batteries in it so it's portable and for the bedroom, I plug it in. Hope this helps.

Yay ocean sounds! Must better then I-580 sounds. Stays on if you want it to stay on.
We are currently inbetween addresses as we move, and while certain long-stay hotels may be convenient, quiet they are not. Why do they all have to be next to the freeway Anyway, this little sound maker is a godsend. It has a timer, but left to itself will just simply stay on until we turn it off in the morning. We always use the ocean setting, but there are several others (rain, rushing stream, summer night (crickets), thunder). But we find the ocean to be the most pleasant and most likely to drown out the ambient noise without calling attention to itself. And it can be LOUD, if you want it to be! All the way upand you won't want it right by the bed. The one negative is the tendency for small other noises to filter in. Sometimes there's a faint gurgle, other times an occasional higher pitched mumble. I think the various sound clips occasionally intermingle. It is rarely distracting and tends to only occur within the first hour of use, but it is worth noting. Other than that, it's great and takes up very little space on the counter. I like :)

Relaxing and Affordable
I recently purchased the Homedics SoundSleep White Noise Sound Machine, and overall, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. In terms of sound quality, it's on par with its price, so don't expect high-end speaker quality. Some people have complained about tinny or treble-heavy sound, but I think that's just unrealistic expectations for a device in this price range. One thing to note is that some people have reported hearing strange sounds or voices while using the machine. While I haven't experienced this myself, it's worth considering that white noise machines and other constant noise-producing devices can cause auditory hallucinations in some people. So, if you're sensitive to this kind of thing, you might want to stick with pure white noise instead of the other nature sounds included. For me, the white noise setting works perfectly fine for sleeping, and I also use it when doing chores around the house or working in the garage. I appreciate that it's portable and has the option to plug it in, so I can use it wherever I need it. The other sounds are decent for background noise, but they do have noticeable loops, which might be distracting for some people. Overall, I think the machine is a good value for the price, and I would consider repurchasing it if I needed to. It's not a high-end device, but it gets the job done and helps me relax and sleep better at night.

Truly portable for camping
I would have loved to get a sound machine that was a little more advanced than this one (which I had many years ago and it worked fine). Sound quality isn't up to what some seem to be now. I was also a little disappointed that the bird chirping isn't available on this unit anymore. Bottom line is, we needed something for white noise when we are boon-docking with our travel trailer, as total silence drives me nuts when I'm trying to sleep as I'm so used to having white noise when I sleep. It was very, very difficult to find a machine that truly operated off of batteries (AAA), due to the fact that the rechargeable ones need to be plugged in to a USB outlet. So that eliminated many products out there with better sound and features, but they weren't truly "portable" as claimed. This was about the only product out there available if you aren't gonna be around electricity.

Funcional
The media could not be loaded. Es un dispositivo ligero, tiene diferentes niveles de volumen y se escucha muy bien, aparte puede conectarse a la corriente o funcionar con 4 pilas AA. Bloquea bastante bien los ruidos. Recomendado. Lo único malo es que tiene una luz de encendido que en la noche tenemos que tapar porque si se nota mucho, pero con un poco de cinta queda cubierto

Looping a problem, so only using one setting
Initially I loved it, and was using the "Rain" setting. But then I noticed the loop - the same noticeable pattern of 4-5 raindrops occurred every few seconds. After that my mind could not let it go, so I tried the other sound settings. Same problem there too - there is a subtle chiming/pinging sort of sound which gives away the loop. "Brook" is the only setting where I have not detected the pattern, and so that's the only one I use now. I use it during the day, to (somewhat) drown out the noisy and inconsiderate neighbours. At night however it's not sufficient, so I have gone back to keeping my cooler fan on. One pro of this machine - the volume can go quite loud.

Convenient and easy to use
Sounds aren't super great quality but does the trick and the ease of use is helpful. The on light is bright but I just stuck one of my daughter's stickers ontop of it and problem solved. The volume knob at first annoyed me as was hard to get same volume everytime but now I like it quite a bit as unlike my other sound machine it doesn't nake a click sound when I need to change the volume in the middle of the night. Also I've tested this out with lithium batteries as I wanted to see how long it'd go before dying as we are going camping soon and I'm happy to say that it is still going strong after over 6 nights of use ... so far at just over 62 hrs of white noise over 6 nights and it has yet to die. Incredible and convenient.

Muy bien para el precio.
Lo compré para el cuarto de mi bebé y enmascarar los ruidos. Estuve viendo varios modelos y al final me decidí por este porqué 1. En realidad no lo voy a estar moviendo de lugar y 2. En caso de que se requiera mover, siempre estará la opción de poner pilas. Hasta ahora me ha funcionado perfectamente, de verdad hace la diferencia a la hora de dormir al bb. La luz del led si es intensa, pero para mí no es un problema, simplemente le pones un trapo encima o algo y lo tapas. El único contra que le veo es que si pones el temporizador, el botón hace mucho ruido, suficiente para despertar a mi bb aveces... Entonces simplemente no lo pongo. Si lo recomendaría.

Ideal
Me encanta, es el aparato más funcional de ruido blanco que he encontrado. El sonido de lluvia no me gusta porque se repite muy pronto los mismos sonidos. El de grillos es hermoso, muy real y está combinado con un poco de ruido blanco. El ruido blanco es perfecto. No recuerdo los otros sonidos porque me han gustado mucho estos que menciono y no he usado los demás. El hecho de que funcione también con pilas lo hace aún más perfecto. Se puede programar para que se apague solo y también dejar sin programa para que esté encendido todo el tiempo. Solo encuentro 2 detalles que no me gustaron: 1. El foco amarillo que indica que esta prendido tiene una luz muy fuerte y hay que buscar con que cubrirla para que no moleste por la noche 2. Están muy duros los botones y al presionarlos hace mucho ruido, truena y mi bebé brinca algunas veces cuando presiono el botón para programar el aparato y que se apague en 30 minutos. Esos son los únicos detalles, en todo lo demás es perfecto.
