5 of these spread around my house eliminated my sinus problems
I have 2 of these true HEPA filters in each of my big Holmes air cleaners. Holmes air cleaners are not expensive. 1 air cleaner on the ground floor, and 1 in the basement. I got almost 2 years out of my last batch. Completely eliminated my sinus pressure and headaches. I was taking ibuprofen (with calcium powder or milk to buffer the acidity) 5 or 6 times a day before my current air cleaner system. Smaller air cleaners by themselves in a few rooms do not do the job. Air cleaners have to cover the whole house so that there is no possibility of becoming sensitized. I also have a smaller true HEPA Holmes air cleaner in my bedroom. I have 4 MERV 13 filters from Zoro in my central heat and air. They are not enough by themselves to stop the sinus problems since the system fan is not on all the time. The only way to stop the nasal sensitivity is full 24/7 air cleaning of the whole house. I lived with sinus problems for decades. Once my nasal passages and sinuses are sensitized anything will set them off. Smells, mold, any dust, any pollen, etc.. I also have a dehumifier in the basement. It also is essential. If the humidity gets above 50% I am back to sinus problems due to the mold in the basement being spread around the house. MERV 13 filters aren't enough to stop all mold. Mold spores are tiny. The air cleaners take awhile to clear out the mold being spread from the vents. So I get sensitized. If you have allergies or sinus problems you probably know what I am talking about concerning being more easily set off at times.

I have several HEPA air purifiers in my home. They run 24/7/365. I used to buy these from a large retail store in my area. Sometimes they would have them and sometimes not which would put me into a treasure hunt mode of looking at other retailers. I finally was smart about it and looked on Amazon. YES! Not only can I simply click and order them but they are cheaper. They work great. They are the exact same thing I was paying more for and feeling frustrated at trying to find. I am so grateful to have these available and I have them delivered through Amazon subscription. It is an easy reminder to change them out when they arrive. If you replace them regularly your HEPA filter will last longer.

Excellent product!
I've been using Holmes products for decades and they work great. I replace the HEPA filters at least once per year and the carbon filters every three months or so. Another customer was frustrated because these are sold separately, not with the carbon filters, and was also annoyed that the HEPA filters were sold in a pair when they needed three. This customer doesn't realize perhaps that they sell smaller units that only use two HEPA filters. Some even use one. Also they are sold separately, not with the carbon filters, because the carbon filters need to be replaced much more often. Just make sure the seller is reputable. There are companies that make knock-offs and I don't recommend those. If you do get the knock-offs make sure they cost much less.

Also referred to as "HOLMES type C" prefilters...
These are getting tough to find locally -- it used to be I could walk into Sears and walk out with a box, but now they're only interested in selling me the more expensive "type B" HEPA filters that these carbon filters fit over. There are four of these per box, yet only three are needed per change in our Holmes HAP 650 purifier. The purifier is in use in a converted basement bedroom in the house -- it has a moisture control problem, we have the diaper changing table in there, and we own dogs. The evidence is clear every time we change these filters. Not only is there a lot of dust, dander, pet hair and whatever collected in these, but the smell of the room becomes noticeably improved every filter change. The main function of these filters is to keep the more expensive HEPA filter beneathHolmes HAPF600D from getting clogged. They can be rinsed out under the faucet, by the way, if you don't mind the hassle of the cleaning and the drying. For us, changing these charcoal pre-filters out ever 3-4 months gives us about a years worth of use on the HEPA filters behind them. Replacement is simple enough: just open the door, pull out the old pads if they're yucky, and the new ones press into place. My only gripes with these are, for the price they're charging, they ought to put six in the box to provide two full changes. But I do appreciate that they keep the HEPA filters unobstructed for a full year.

Stick with Holmes for Holmes products
I purchased the cheaper filters last year, and that's all they were, cheaper. They didn't filter the air effectively enough for me like the holmes filters do. I have a cat I am very allergic to that I got for my daughter to help with a trauma. I have asthma induced allergies, and I thought I would have to get rid of the cat two weeks after getting her, until I read in a forum that a guy suffering the same as me, purchased an air purifier, and it was a night and day difference, he was right. I have the Holmes large room air purifier that uses these filters, and trust me when I tell you there is a difference in the air quality the Holmes filters provide, the cat stays in the same room with me at night for hours until bedtime and I'm fine. Not true for the cheaper filters. Purchase the Holmes filters from this company, the delivery was lightning fast and they are much cheaper for the three filters than purchasing in the store. I will buy again and again.

It works for us
We have been using this filter for our three air cleaners for a while. We usually change every 6 months. Two big one and one smaller one take 8 filters altogether. It tends to dry air. But with three senior cats, air cleaner means less allergy meds. They are not cheap. But I would rather pay for filters than taking meds. I buy one pack or two to pair up other things to get free shipping.
