Great for Under Eave Installation
I bought this to replace a 10+ year old light that had finally stopped working. The round outlet box for that light is under the eave and many current motion detection lights seem to be limited to mounting on the wall, whereas this one can be installed either way. For the benefit of those thinking about this light I offer the following observations: 1. Many lights use a bracket which is screwed to the outlet box. The fixture is then attached to the bracket with a single screw through the center of the base. This fixture, however, mounts directly to the outlet box without any bracket. Instead, there are two holes provided on the outer rim of the base which line up with the threaded holes in the box. On the plus side this makes the attachment much more secure. On the negative side it limits the ability to turn the base relative to the box. If your box has just two screw locations, there are two choices 180 degrees apart. If you box has four locations, then you have four choices 90 degrees apart. But since both the lights and motion detector have a reasonable range of adjustment, this shouldn't be a problem for most. Just something to be aware of. Of course, if you aren't installing this on a standard round outside box you may have issues. 2. The fixture comes with 6/32 and 8/32 screws for mounting, but many outside round boxes use 10/32 screws to attach cover plates, fixtures, etc. So check what your box uses and plan accordingly. 3. The base, arms and other parts are metal, but are much thinner and lighter than my older style fixture. This was an advantage when it came to installing the unit overhead while perched on a ladder, but it means being careful not to tighten the attachment screws too much or twist the lights too hard when aiming them. Be sure to back off the lock nuts first, make your adjustments, then retighten the lock nuts. 3. The motion detector is on a nice long stalk which allows it to be positioned well below the lights and aimed where you want it. 4. Another reviewer noted that the shields for the lights are a separate piece which need to be inserted into the lamp bases and turned (i.e., bayonet style latch). I didn't find any issue with these fitting or latching in place. On the other hand, the shields encase the bulb fairly snug such there isn't a lot of room to get your fingers in there to screw the bulbs in. I found it easiest to snug the bulbs using my palm to give them the final 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Of course, the unit comes with rubber gaskets to go around the base of the bulbs, so using the shields is optional. 5. So far the motion detector part seems to work well. I set it in the middle of its range and it comes on when I'm 40-50 feet away. As with all such detectors it works best when walking across the detector's field of view rather than straight on or away. The trick is to simply angle the detector head slightly away from the path you would normally walk or drive so that it senses motion across its field of view. 6. The unit does come with a bare braided ground wire which can either be anchored to the box (if it is already grounded) and/or twisted around the ground wire coming from the power source. On the whole I'm happy with this purchase. Installation and adjustment was easy and it works as I hoped. I can't speak to its longevity, although my experience is that all motion detector lights have a limited life span.

okay value for the price
Was an okay deal but had to fix the neutral wire crimp that fell off. Secured the wires together using a wire nut and it was good to go. NOTE: This item does not come with a round gasket that goes between the cover and box. Also, had to use different (bigger) screws to secure the cover to the fixture. The ones that came with the fixture were too small (maybe by one size). Other then that, I would buy this again. The issues were simple enough to work around plus it would have cost me more to go through the hassle of sending it back. Hope this helps someone....

Does the job
One thing that's not clear, is the reflectors are a separate piece that goes on over the socket, but it does add to protection for the bulbs. Will see whether it becomes a home for bugs...

One of the few that allows easy under-eve instillation
Initially, I have a negative comment concerning the poor directions - including features that the product does not have. Tricky to test during daylight hours in 'test' mode, not helped by the lousy directions. No weather seal gasket was provided to fit against either the edge of either a round J-box or flush to a surface. On the positive side, the motion sensor works very well and doesn't turn on during the day - all as should be. The instillation went without a hitch and the unit was easy to install. Note: This is one of the few motion detector light fixtures that allows easy installation beneath eves. This is mainly due to the extended length of the conduit connecting the base to the detector. If this thing lasts (most of these motion detectors have a high failure rate), that would be great.

Not well designed for weatherproofness. You MUST have a 4" electrical box.
The overall fit and finish of this light has a feeling of a light duty fixture. Light metal allow of some kind and feels a bit cheap. (Well to be honest they are cheap $$ wise). The light shrouds are packed separately and are very light weight. They attach to the fixture with a semi bayonet mount. This product doesn't come with any type of universal mount system, so if you have a 3" or 3.5" electrical box you are out of luck. ONLY BUY THIS if you have a 4" electrical box. Oddly the instructions say "if the Koles don't line up with your electrical box DRILL NEW ONES". Seriously??? Luckily I was replacing a fixture that had a heavy duty universal mount plate, but was a center mount (screw attachment up from the center to hold fixture in place. I drill a hole in the center of the Halo light and used the old baseplate and center mount. Not ideal since I'd prefer a standard secure setup, but it works. There is no foam or neoprene gasket included for the mount and it doesn't appear to be as weathertight as most I have seen. Also the motion detection seems weak, even on max. Last it says wall mount or "ceiling" mount. I'd suggest this not be used as a ceiling horizontal mount at all. Stick with wall mount & realize it shouldn't be very exposed to driving rain. To be perfectly fair, it's about what you would expect for a $30 outside light fixture.

Perfect. Simple. Elegant.
Many of these lights are getting too sophisticated and are over-engineered. This is the only design that fits under my soffit while allowing sufficient positioning and swinging of the lights and sensor. I have no need to pay for extra that is unnecessary I just want the lights to come on when I go through the back gate of my house to toss the trash out and be able to see if any raccoons or bears are there. That's it.

Easy under eave ceiling mount
Metal fixture seems sturdy. Motion detector parts are plastic though. I had no problem installing it “ceiling mount” to the soffit under eave. Unlike some reviewers from earlier, I found the mounting screws aligned perfectly to the brand new junction box I used. There’s plenty of adjustments that can be made to the light positioning and the motion sensor also.

first few weeks was ok....its kinda tough (trial n error) to adjust the length of time it will stay on and the sensitivity to motion but all else was fine...... 4 months down the road....the whole thing sometimes stays on for hours or it works fine or lickers on/off (i got a freaking strobe show in front of my house) for hours at a time

Cheap brittle cast pot metal
What a POS - could hear the sensor trip but no light activation (bulbs were fine). Biggest let down was when one of the light housings broke by hand while adjusting its angle. Avoid this sub standard POS and spend your hard earned money on another brand.
