Very thick and sturdy dog leash but the clasp doesn't close straight and is a little loose leaving me feeling unsafe for fear that the clasp won't close well and my dog may get loose...oh the horror of just the thought!!! She is so very precious to me and I don't feel safe using this leash because of this issue. If I had noticed it sooner I would have returned both Hamilton leashes I purchased because unfortunately they both have the very same issue with the clasp not closing straight. I have recently visited a local store that carries this brand and some of the leashes clasps are fine and other ones are not aligned when closed just like this one. Too bad because Hamilton is a wonderful company and I have used their horse halters, dog collars, and I have another dog leash of theirs and the clasp is just fine on that one. My local store was out of black and didn't have the double thick one so I figured I would just order online from Amazon. You need to check the clasps as some are fine but others are not...maybe I'm just being paranoid but in my opinion if the clasp is loose, what good is the leash? I regret this purchase as it is a total waste of money because I will not be using the leash. UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW: I would like to update my review for this dog lead. I decided to try it again since my pup likes to grab the leash sometimes and play tug of war with me while on walks. I just ignore it and continue on our walk and she stops. Single thick leashes may snap when she does this because she is very strong, that is why I opted for the double thick lead. The leash is terrific! It is thick and solid and the clasp is just fine...I was just being too picky and paranoid! The clasp is very solid and I am confident it will not break or open. I have been using it for a couple of months now, two walks per day and it is performing very well! I will be ordering another one in another color. Thank you Hamilton Products!

This is NOT the SAME QUALITY --- Heat Pressed - Not Stitched!

If you are used to Hamilton's quality double thickness and stitching, you won't get it with this product. For $17 I feel robbed and lied to. The handle is not completely double -they cut it and heat pressed it together with one row of stitches on the side edge -- nothing more. It used to be sewn in a square on the double material and then an "X" -- and no way would that ever fail. The loop around the clip is now the same way: Instead of being sewn in a square and X stitched in the middle of the square, it is heat pressed together -- no way in will this hold up if you have a canine that puts pressure on the leash. If you walk with a limp leash, you'll most likely be fine; but I bought this for strength, and it's an accident waiting to happen. I've bought both collars and leashes from Hamilton in the past with no issues, but this is not the same quality, so beware risking your pets' safety. No more Hamilton products for this pet family.

Holds together despite my dog

I seriously hope they never change the way this leash is made. I've purchased numerous leashes from my local pet box store and they don't have the durability of this one. Granted, they last about six months or so, but that's a heck of a lot better than 6 weeks! One of my dogs loves chewing on his end of the leash and whipping it around. The double-nylon stands up to his 100 lb. self and doesn't fall apart. The clasp is heavy-duty on the black leashes that I've purchased. Also a necessity for my dog. Great product.

Best leash on the market!

These are the best kind of leash that you just can't find in the pet stores! Have you ever walked a strong dog on a thin nylon leash and try to keep ahold of it when the dog pulled? If yes, then you know how it burns when it rips through your hand! These leashes are think and much easier to keep your grip without being to bulky in your hand! I keep the 4ft and 6ft leashes on hand at all times and wouldn't use anything else!

Could have been 5 star.

Great dog lead. Plenty strong for a dog that is strong. I downgraded it only because the metal clip is plated chrome and will stand the test of time. Before they used solid brass, a much better metal for this application. Cutting corners for profit. I would prefer you charge us more and give a better product.

Excellent leash

I have two labs and this leash works great for them. I love the purple color. Because of the double thickness, the leash lasts longer and is stronger.

Very happy with this leash

Very happy with this leash. I needed a 6-ft non-retractable leash for a training class and chose this item for it's reasonable price and many color options. The "double" construction is immediately evident and there is a sense of quality when you hold it. The clasp is also very strong and thick metal.

Great leash for strong dogs!

I've been using this leash for almost a year now and I have zero complaints! I purchased it because my dogs previous leash hurt my hand after walks. This leash doesn't hurt at all and holds up to my strong dog.

Not a True Dual Layer Leash. It has one section of single layer.

Absolute garbage. Where the leash doubles back to create the handle, they took a short cut and only stitched one layer of the leash back to itself to create the handle. This effectively makes it a single layer leash as this creates a weak point. If the leash is going to break, it will break here. It's like if you have 2 pieces of heavy duty steel chain and attached them together with a piece of thread. At that point, it's no longer a piece of chain, it's just a piece of thread. This leash is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. In this case, the weakest link is a small, one inch section in the handle that is only one layer. In fact if you zoom in on the photo, you'll see what I mean. If you can't see it in the photo, it means they have changed the photo so you can't see it. I returned them for a refund and bought 2 proper dual layer leashes from PetSmart for half the price . Don't waste your time with this garbage for twice the price that you can buy it for at your local brick and mortar. Epic Fail Hamilton !!!

Strong and well built

I have a large strong mastiff and this is a sturdy leash for daily use. Perfect length and durability I was looking for. The double up thickness of leash is noticeable and would make it harder to chew through if your dog likes to bite or hold his leash. Good value and will last a long time of dog doesn’t chew it.

Hamilton always great quality

We love Hamilton products for our dogs as they always meet or exceed our expectations. Well-made and nice-looking leash. A bit too heavy-duty for our needs so it was returned and a lighter-weight version purchased.

Super tough!

Love this leash - I have two dogs (an Aussie and a German Shepherd) and the German Shepherd is always chewing on their leashes. She usually destroys them to frays but you can't even see wear on this one where she's been chewing!
