Greenlee DTAPKITM M3-M10 6-Piece Combination Drill and Tap Set

WOW COULD NOT BE HAPPIER, USED THESE ON A HITCH JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER RECEIVING THIS ITEM. DRILLED A HOLE VERY EASY, THEN WHEN IT GOT TO THE ACTUAL TAPPING PART OF THE DRILL THAT TOO WENT IN VERY EASY, STOPPED THE DRILL ONCE THE THREADS WERE ON THE HOLE. DID NOT AND HAVE USED THE DEBUR PART, HAVE BEEN AFRAID OF MAKING IT COME BACK ACROSS THE THREAD MAKING SECTION AND MAYBE RUINING THE THREADS CREATED ON THE SIDES OF THE HOLE. HAVE DRILLED INTO THE HANDLE BARS OF A BIKE SIX HOLES, ALL LIKE A CHARM, HAVE DRILLED INTO THE BIKE FRAME TUBING FOUR TIMES AND THAT TOO WENT LIKE A CHARM. LIKE MOST PEOPLE THAT ARE FIX IT GUYS, I HAVE A PARTS BIN HOLDER ON THE WALL WITH SCREWS THAT ARE SORTED BY HEAD TYPE, SO I DRILLED THE SIX SIZES THAT THIS SET MAKES INTO AN ALUMINUM PLATES THAT IS 1/4 INCH THINK NOW WHEN A NEED TO DRILL A HOLE TO ADD A BOLT TO HOLD SOMETHING GOT TO THE METAL I JUST DUMP THE BOLTS ONTO A NEWSPAPER AND FIND A BOLT FROM THE PILE THAT FITS SNUGLY INTO ONE OF THE HOLES ON THE ALUMINUM PLATE THAT HAS ALL SIX THREADED HOLES ON IT. ALSO CUT THE PLATE TO FIT INTO THE CASE ON THE LEFT SIDE WHERE THE QUICK RELEASE IS HELD. TO ENABLE ME TO TAKE THE BOLT FINDER PLATE THAT WAS MADE WITH THE BITS AS I GRAB THEM AND GO FROM THE STORAGE ROOM TO THE WORK SITE. I RECOMMEND AND DID USE THE CRC SL2512 Soluble Oil, 32 Fl Oz DRILLING CUTTING FLUID THAT I ALSO BOUGHT HERE ON AMAZON FOR KEEPING THE BIT COOL AND LUBRICATED WHEN DRILLING AND TAPPING WITH THIS SET AND THAT TOO WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD. JUST OPEN THE LID PLACE IT ON THE TABLE OR GROUND AND THEN STICK A PENCIL OR PEN INSIDE THE OPENING OF THE BOTTLE TO GET SOME LIQUID ON IT - THEN LET THE LIQUID DROP OFF THE PEN OR PENCIL ONTO THE METAL THAT YOU ARE DRILLING INTO. DRILL ABOUT 10 TO 15 SECONDS THEN ADD A FEW MORE DROPS, AND SO ON UNTIL HOLE IS DONE, THIS PRODUCTS WORKS, JUST BE CAREFUL TO NOT STRIP THE THREADS IN THE HOLE YOU JUST CREATED WHEN PUTTING THE DRILL INTO REVERSE TO GET THE BIT OUT OF THE HOLE. YES I DO RECOMMEND THIS IF YOU NEED TO MAKE IS METAL WITH THREAD FOR ADDING BOLTS TO HOLD THINGS ONTO THE METAL, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE CUTTING / DRILLING FLUID AS WELL, THESE REALLY WORK AND ARE EASY TO USE, AND WEAR EYES PROTECTION AND GLOVES IF YOU PLAN ON TOUCHING THE METAL SHAVINGS DRILLED OUT OF THE HOLES. A PAPER TOWEL TO WIPE THE SHAVING OUT OF THE WAY AFTER DRILLING IS DONE IS ALSO HELPFUL, YOU CAN DAB THEM UP THE SHAVINGS AND DROP THE PAPER-TOWEL RIGHT INTO THE TRASH CAN MOST OF THE TIME,

They're great, but my M5 bit snapped after just a few uses.

They work great!....until they break. I bought this set solely for creating threaded holes in aluminum extrusion. I've used the M5 bit to drill out maybe 10 holes so far. As I was drilling the last hole, it snapped in half. I'm going to see if Greenlee will replace it because I was being very careful to keep the bit straight. I wasn't just recklessly drilling without a care in the world. Other than that, they worked very well. Update on Dec 22nd: I contacted Greenlee about the M5 bit that snapped asking for a replacement. They got back with me yesterday with this reply, "Hello Garrett, You will need to file this with Amazon since they are the distributor where you purchased it. Thank you, Anna D Customer Service Representative Greenlee Textron"

Holding Up Good

I used the M5 tap on the ends of 4 OpenBuilds extruded aluminium V-Slots with a little saw wax to smooth it out and it tapped all 8 ends perfectly. I have 16 more to go, but it looks like it's not going to be an issue with this tool. I really like that the drill part of this makes the alignment very easy since the parts already have a pre-drilled hole of the correct size.

Someone needs to come up with a high torque low speed cordless drill and we're good.

I've purchased this to drill and tap 1.6 to 2.5 mm aluminum sheet. You need to control your drill speed. For cordless drill, use slow speed with light pressure. If you use a denser metal, use the Forney 20857 Cutting Fluid, Industrial Pro Tap Magic. Someone needs to come up with a high torque low speed cordless drill and we're good.

A very good tool.

These drill taps are really brilliant I've only used a couple of them just to see how they work and they're great. Even better as they are on 1/4 in hex I can use them with a long extension to get in to those difficult to reach places. And very good value, as here in the UK cost almost as much for one as it cost for the whole set from Amazon.com

Do not use in metal, snaps easily even while using threading oil

These bits worked great, for the 3 holes I was able to tap in a metal plate before the M5 bit snapped on the 4th hole. I was even using a threading oil and going slow to try and prevent that from happening. Then I needed to tap a few M4 holes and the M4 bit snapped on the 3rd hole. These claim to be metal bits, but I don't think they are good for any hard metals after my experience with two bits snapping so quickly in metal. I used the M3 size a little more in aluminum without any problems, yet.. 10 holes total on that bit so far. So for softer metals they might be ok. Really disappointed the M5 and M4 snapped so easily, and I need to tap a lot more M5 holes so going to have to buy another M5 tapper elsewhere.

Perfect Tool For The Job!

Great, but when putting them down on the No Slip mat material in most drawer tool boxes, it melts the rubberized surface and imprints the Greenlee name on the rubber mat. No big deal, these are great tools, ;just don't put them onto your toolbox anti-slip mat or you'll get Greenlee impregnated on it.
