Replacement for other that was 22 years old. Sun kills plastic.

Exactly the same as 20 years ago, a must for brown, round junction boxes.

Metal is much better than plastic. This cover replaces a similar plastic cover that broke.

This metal cover replaces and looks almost identical to a plastic cover that failed. The hinged weather protectors on the plastic cover lasted about 4 years, and then broke away from the metal axles. I replaced it with this cover, and am quite pleased with strength of the metal hinges on this product. The metal and plastic covers cost essentially the same, but this product is likely to last a lot longer.

Fits over round electrical boxes. Horizontal or vertical installation

Purchased to replace a plastic cover that had become brittle and discolored due to UV exposure. I initially purchased a rectangular cover but realized once I removed the old cover that the builder had installed a round electrical box and a standard cover would not work. This cover is square so you can install it vertically or horizontally and its large enough to cover a round electrical box. It's easy to install, the gasket is attached to the back so installation involves inserting one screw - you do need to physically hold the outlet lids open to insert the screw but its easy to do. I wish the lids would stay in the open position when using the outlet but it's a safety feature to ensure the outlet is not exposed to weather. It's metal so it looks nicer and seems sturdier than the plastic ones. I seems a bit overpriced but overall, it works and will likely last a long time.
