pretty good

I'm a fan of Mikasa products so I was happy to add this Vella 2-Tier to the collection. Overall, we like it though not as much as we usually like Mikasa stuff. ++What I like: The actual 2-tier tray looks nice. The wood is good quality and nice contrast with the color pattern. The tray is functional and handy. --What could be better: it is self assembly (simple enough) but the final 2-tier stand is a bit wobbly on me. I found ways to adjust screws, etc to help but still. Other Notes: ~~the silver metal circle that comes in the box is to be installed at the bottom (both trays sit on it). I mention this as a tip because I didn't see in instructions and had to google some pictures to study. ~~tray size is tall so hard to fit in some cabinets..but it does unscrew easy into 2 pieces. Overall, another nice Mikasa tray though at current price of $120 a bit high for value...4-STAR "pretty good" rating by me.

Pretty Two-Tiered Tray; Slightly Warped Upper Tray

A two-tier tray like this one is great for storage as well as display, and I got it with the thought of display in mind. It's a beautiful piece and I am pleased with it. That said, the one I received was warped. The tray comes disassembled and takes less than 5 minutes to put together. It isn't even necessary to see the instructions, it's plainly obvious how it gets assembled. What I did not know because I did not see it in the product description is that the bottom tier does not sit directly on the counter top but is supported by a metal base with a felt liner on the bottom. The base adds some weight to the whole thing which makes it more stable, which is a good thing. Once I had the thing assembled I noticed that one of the trays is warped. The top tray in my unit is actually warped enough to be visibly noticeable, and I would best describe it as being very slightly saddle-shaped. It's not enough to ruin the whole thing, but it does detract from the overall appearance some. I am not completely convinced that it came from the manufacturer that way or if it warped in shipping. Other than the top tray being mildly warped, I am pleased with this tray. I think it's a bit overpriced, but it is an attractive storage and display unit that is not out of place in the kitchen.

Not usual Mikasa standards

I am usually a fan of Mikasa products. This one is a disappointment. The Gourmet Basics by Mikasa Vella 2-Tier Round Tray, Multicolored, is currently selling for $199.99. That is outrageously overpriced for this item. It arrived in a brown box that had seen better days. There is no interior box so it is not a presentation suitable for gifting. The first thing I noticed is that the wood had some green areas of mold. It was easily wiped off but not something I expect to have to do when an item has a $200 price tag. It went together easily and the trays are solid wood. It is an attractive, sturdy tray. They main issue I have is with the inside of the trays. The decorative part is a heavy duty plastic sticker. The tray I received there are a LOT of air bubbles under the sticker. There is no way to press them out. I tried and now I have places where the colored part is coming off of the wood tray. In all honesty, I may try to remove the inside because otherwise, the tray is not useable for anything other than decoration and it needs to be up high where visitors won’t see the inside of the tray. Very disappointed with this Mikasa product.

Beautiful tray

We loved the design and quality of the wooden 2-tier tray my Mikasa. Very easy to install. Looks elegant. Takes me back to the hacienda of a Spanish culture home. One issue we found is, for the price, the trays are not flush straight on top of each other, and can tend to be a bit warped. It's not a big issue, nitpicking, and probably not much will be noticed once you start using it. Overall, definitely, people have commented on how beautiful it looks and is a good show piece in our kitchen to put some handy items.

Sturdy beautiful piece

1) Made of strong wood. It is a heavy set 2) Very spacious and accomodates all our condiments on the table. (Ref picture for size comparison) 3) Beautiful yet durable for daily use. 4) Can be used as a cupcake /muffin display stand as well. 5) The print is vinyl coated which can be both a pro and con. It is easy to clean spills. But does look a little plasticky for an otherwise gorgeous stand. Edited : It's been couple of months now with minimal use (used as storage for rarely used condiments) and the vinyl on the top tray is warped and the tray itself is splitting where two halves were glued. Disappointed

Very Nice

I quite enjoy using this on my kitchen table as a server. It's lovely to look at and it sits stable and spins easily. It has held up with months of use and I really love the style. It came flat packaged and was easy to assemble and would be easy to disassemble for storage if I wanted a break from it or to gift it to someone else. Good luck in your search.

A beautiful design, poor quality control

We acquired this Gourmet Basics by Mikasa Vella 2-Tier Round Tray to complement a similar product we acquired and reviewed some months ago. The design, with its darker wood frame setting off a traditional yellow-, green-, blue-, and white-dominant set of surfaces is striking. Unfortunately, our unit—as that of one or more previous reviews to his product—has bad warming on the upper plastic surface. I'm surprised to find such an obvious (and, evidently, repeated) quality-control lapse in a Mikasa-branded product. At this quite high price point, that's nearly unforgivable.

Pretty with Quality Issues

While this tray is attractive and useful, it comes with some quality issues. It arrives unassembled with no instructiobs. There are the two trays, a smal base piece that is metal on one side felt on the other and the center metal, which is in two pieces. It is not rocket science to put together. Just insert the metal through the predrilled holes and screw together. It stands stablely and loojs nice. Until closer inspection. The center pieces are not tile like I thought but large colored stickers. They were slightly warped along the edges. The rims had obvious seams that looked glued together. Not what I expect from this brand. But it is pretty and serves a purpose. Wipe clean. 3.5 stars
