New version not as functional as the older style

I've been wearing one of these vest for years as my go-to travel wear. Having spent many years with a very heavy business travel schedule, I definitely ran my original vest through wringer. The new version is generally OK, and certainly better than no travel vest, but overall I find some minor changes to be irritating and they make the vest less useful to me. Pros to changes: - Front chest pockets are larger than original, which allows stupidly oversized cell phones to fit better. - Material is a good quality, cleans easily. - Collar material is comfortable against the neck. Cons to changes: - Overall length of the vest is longer such that the bottom hangs lower. The end result is that the bottom of the interior pockets is further down requiring a larger, more awkward reach to get to the items that settle to the bottom of your pocket. It also feels overall baggier, which gives me less confidence that my items in those pockets are secure. The additional material and flimsier zippers means that unzipping internal pockets is a two-handed operation to grasp the material and pull the zipper. - Zippers. The zippers are smaller and flimsier. The pull tabs are MUCH smaller than the originals. This is particularly frustrating for the front chest pockets that probably get accessed more than any other pockets due to their suitability for holding digital devices. Overall, I'm happy with this vest and I'd certainly rather have than not have it. I'm just frustrated that the designer fiddled with an otherwise very good design and made it less functional. Part of the beauty of the original vest was how I could access the hidden items with subtlety...the changes require more awkward movements to access items.

be careful when you dry the vest

My wife did laundry and she dried it on high and the 1/2 of of the plastic zipper metaled but I still able to use it by pulling it over head. Otherwise it's a good vest to travel in, I didn't have to worry about pickpockets.

zipper stuck, had to cut through stitching to get cell phone

it pains me to write this as i own 4 ex-officio flyq vest that perform flawlessly. the redesigned one has improved materials, but the tolerances on the zipper are prone to locking up. i tried calling ex-officio and after two hours of waiting i gave up. they have not responded to my email either. my old flyq vests are wearing out, but i will repair and keep them, if they fix the zipper problem, i might try another one.

Hecho para cualquier aventura

Este chaleco sirve para cualquier viaje o si es necesario tener a la mano diversas cosas. Es ligero y aunque lleve muchas cosas no se vuelve pesado o difícil de usar. No recomiendo usarlo como chaleco de "expedición" o de "fotógrafo". Tiene muchas bolsas y si se distribuye bien la carga no se nota que llevas cosas al usarlo, parece un chaleco normal.
