Large & Medium Vests

I like how you can cut around the armpit area to make it fit ur dog. I like the bright colors. The velcro is har because the stickers get on it. My dogs are pudlepointers and don’t care if they get scratched during hunting. I care b/c they get scars and lick themselves at night to care for their wounds. So I decided to invest in this personal protective wear.

Comfy fit!!

My pup has no issue wearing this vest! It fits great, doesn’t get all twisted up when she runs around, and seemingly protects her from at least thorns. She’s a hunting dog in training, so being able to get through all the dense brush and thorns while also remaining safe and not all scratched up is very important to me. She also wears a Carthart chore coat, highly recommend that as well.

Good Value

I bought this after my dog got his second deep wound on the underside of his ribcage while running around in the country on a trip. Both injuries are under this vest and either directly under or near the black reinforced skid plate. This vest might have saved my dog a lot of distress and saved me about a grand in veterinarian fees (though I am appreciative of the on-call vet that patched him up at 4am). The chest on this could be a bit wider for my dog, but he's a mastiff so it might be just right for a dog with a lighter build. He wears a large at about 85 pounds and the straps wrap around his body onto themselves enough for the velcro to catch securely, even when it's worn over a heavy dog coat that looks like a horse's blanket. The sides of the vest have a softer band where the fabric meets their armpit or their leg, and even after extended wear (all day long most days for a month) in the cold and wet, he didn't get any sores from it. The black breastplate isn't thick enough to stop really significant trauma, there's no rigid backing to it, but it's thick enough that it will prevent snags from barbwire and broken sticks. He's worn it out in similar scenarios as to when he was hurt before and he hasn't been injured with it on yet. If I could add a reflective band to it, I would. Otherwise, it's a great item and I wish I'd gotten it for him before we went out into the country the first time.

Nicely Made and Very Highly Visible

I bought this for my 10 month old yellow lab who had just finished 5 months of gun dog training. I was taking him on our first dove hunt, on public land, with two other hunters that I have not hunted with before. I wanted to make sure that he was as safe as possible around other hunters in case he broke during the hunt. These vests seem to come in 3 different varieties: back coverage, chest coverage, and full coverage. Back coverage makes the dog more visible if he's in front of hunters, below them, or going to enter water. Chest coverage has slightly less visibility from behind and above the dog, but provides chest protection . Full coverage is great if your dog is going to be in heavy brush or it's very cold outside, and it provides all the benefits of the other two varieties. I opted for this vest because I wanted the chest protection and I was concerned about hunters across the field shooting while my dog was approaching to retrieve a bird. This vest worked great! It's lightweight, well made, and highly visible. And as I hoped, the high visibility of this vest actually stopped another hunter from pulling the trigger in my dog's direction during a retrieve. He approached me after the hunt to tell me he was glad my dog was wearing that vest. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish the vest had something more substantial or wider than the three straps.

Fits perfectly on our GSP

Vest provides great chest protection for our active GSP when bird hunting. Fits perfectly, no rubbing and easy to clean. Highly recommend, very well made.

Really easy to fit around dog and protects against brambles and rocks

If you have. working dog or a very active dog that likes running through brambles, gorse... rocks .. then you'll be acutely aware of the damage to their undercarriage! Stab wounds, Cuts, rips tears pussy postules all the product of a active dog in the woodlands or commons. Since buying this lightweight harness my dog can be out for hours and not come back with a scratch to the underside. Unfortunately his legs still get battered! But he's 'alive' when he's out there and 'alive' when he comes back. Great product and allows him to breath too as not neoprene.

Great product for Springer Spaniel, uncertain longevity

Excellent product for my English Springer Spaniel (size: Large) who has used it so far on one hard week of upland hunting. Great fit, seemed comfortable, and I haven't noticed any rub spots on my pup. Also easy to put on and remove. One comment though is questionable longevity. After less than a month of wear (with 1 week of intense use), the Browning name has already worn off. Hopefully the functional parts of the fabric will last!

So far so good!

Used this protective vest for the 1st time today. It held up nicely. Secure fit and stays in place. My dog did 3+ hours of running in some fairly heavy snow-covered brush and it appears to have held up well. I purchased a medium size vest for my 36lb Brittany and it fits very well. Nice snug fit that stays in place and the velcro straps provide added visibility in the thick stuff. Only one use so far. Good value for the $$.

Not doing the job it should

After writing an initial review we have now had time to properly assess. Unfortunately the velcro isn't doing a good enough job and the protectors are coming off. The latch side of the velcro has gone fuzzy and isn't able to catch the hook bits of the velcro so that when the dogs are jumping and running through the bracken and Heather the dogs are dragging the protectors around hanging off. Shame because they seemed to be working well but not after several more sessions. Had to sew poppers (press studs) onto 2 straps. Badly made. Wouldn't recommend.
