These have come in handy in the garage with our family member who restores older or salvage cars for fun, but their usage can be limited to the type of metal you’re working with. They will not hold up well if you . I really like the GearWrench tools and the quality of the extractors seemed to be a little less well-made than some of the other sets we’ve ordered from the brand, so I feel they may be a little on the high side price-wise. The drill bits were top-notch though and no issues with them.

good quality, but “meh”
I love Gearwrench – I have a lot of their tools and rate them highly – but I wasn't particularly impressed by this set of screw extractors. This set arrived at an opportune time for me. I was in the process of a clutch replacement on a 20 year old car and I had a bolt break during the procedure. Thankfully, the broken bolt was only for a mounting bracket that helps secure the upper exhaust pipe – nothing too critical. I had tried heat (torch) and the counter-spiral type of screw extractor – nothing could get the snapped off bolt to budge. But as it was in a thru-hole, I thought “hey, why not try extracting from the other side?” – which this style of extractor would allow given it's not direction biased and can actually fit down into the hole. The good is that the included drill bits are top notch. I put a hole right through the remaining section of bolt no problem. The bad is that I couldn't get the extractor to bite enough into the stuck bolt – it stripped the drilled hole before it could overcome the bolt's stuckness. (I gave up at this point and simply tapped the hole I made and used another bolt to secure the bracket.) Somewhere in all that frustration, I lost the #2 extractor. This is because the bits have hex shanks that you'll need to pair with a properly sized wrench/socket (1/4” & 7/16”). That makes these bits free floating if they strip out of the bolt. If not careful when removing your wrench, it's quite possible the extractor bit falls off into whatever you're working on. And that's how I lost mine. It fell down on to the ground in the struggle and I by the time I went looking for it a while later, it was nowhere to be found. I wouldn't say these are less or more effective than other styles of screw extractors, but I'm not sure they'd be my first go-to, particularly given the price – you'll find many cheaper extractors on Amazon that will work the same or better in most extraction scenarios (in my opinion).

Gearwrench quality, but the sizes...
This set is a great addition to the garage toolkit. The quality is nice - exactly what I've come to expect from a Gearwrench product - and I haven't had any use issues with this set at all so far. Like other reviewers, I also think this set would benefit from the addition of a smaller extractor bit, and also some more in-between sizes. I think it would be reasonable to expect for the price. That being said, the pieces that *are* included are nice quality and I recommend this, especially if you can catch it on sale.

worked perfect for me
I broke off a steel oil drain plug by stupidly over-tightening it in an aluminum oil pan and had to get it out. The bit worked perfectly as described. Simply followed the instructions - tapped the bit in a small amount with a hammer and then slowly screwed the extractor bit into the broken bolt with a drive (not a drill - I've seen that recommended somewhere...). I have to qualify this though: My extraction scenario was perfect - the drain plug had broken off exactly where it changes from solid steel to a hollowed out point. I didn't have to drill out any material into the broken bolt to get the extractor bit in to the broken piece it was already hollowed out. In the end this tool saved me a ton of cash on a new or machined oil pan.

Good case and strong bits
I love that the case actually holds everything in place, even when I put it in my tool bag. The drill bits chew threw grade V bolts and the extractors do wonders! Very helpful!

Great set
I still haven't figured out how to effective use these, but pretty sure that is user error and these are all you need to get the job done!
