Use this in my Pelican motion 100x kayak
This is a great kayak seat, I use it to replace the seat that came with my pelican kayak. It can definitely be fastened if you wanted to, but me personally I just set it on top of the old seat, doesn’t move much at all, every now and then I’ll have to readjust but very infrequently. Comfy seat!! Perfect for what I bought it for. The colorway matches my kayak too

Good seat. A little narrow
The straps on the side of the seat rub my hips due to a narrow seat.

Not perfect, but good enough!
I bought this seat cushion for use on a 3 day whitewater canoe trip, and when we all showed up for the bus ride half of us had this same seat in different colors. There doesn't seem to be a lot of competition in the cushioned canoe seat market, so if you are reading this, you are probably going to end up with this one. Overall it works well; it is lightweight, comfortable, and has a metal frame that has not bent despite the stress put on it during vigorous paddling and a couple flips. It has two beefy plastic clips that attach it to a standard canoe seat, with wide nylon straps to keep it in place. If anything those straps are overkill. They never loosened from the seat while I was using it. There is a mesh pocket on the back which is good for a koozie or maybe some paddling gloves if you are into that. The portage strap is nice if you are into carrying your boat, but who am I, Burt Reynolds? The main downside is the backrest strap. It is one piece that goes from the seat base, through the backrest rails, and around to the other side. You can tighten it with a single plastic buckle at one side which controls the recline of the seat. This is a nice feature, but in practice the buckle slooowly slips and I found myself constantly re-tightening to maximum uprightness before each section of fast water. It may be designed to do this instead of snap under the large amount of stress put on it, in which case this small inconvenience is better than a broken seat. For what it's worth, I tried it later on flatwater in the dry with no issues, so if that is your game you should be good to go. Overall, this is the best you're probably going to find anywhere close to this price. And it certainly worked better than the aluminum Cincinnati Bengals stadium seat my friend brought which really lived up to its name by immediately folding in half under stress. FOOTNOTE: If you plan on using this with an aluminum Grumman 17' Double Ender, it will not fit on the backseat, only the front. The back is too narrow for the hinges.

Best purchase
My friends & I go on a canoe/fishing/camping trip twice a year. I have back issues & always back stuff behind me to lean against. I got this & it’s the best purchase I’ve made for our canoe/ camping trips to date.

Purchased for Canoe - Straps were awkward
Comfortable seat, but my only complaint is that the straps tightened from beneath and when I placed them around a the seat in my canoe, they were difficult to completely tighten in place from beneath. Otherwise this seat is of great quality and comfort. I'm sure with more clearance under the seat, they can be adjusted easily.

Good support
Very good and easy to use. Mainly used for resting back onto, rather than while paddling - but it offers good support.

A Back Saver indeed!
This is a great comfortable seat for the canoeist. It is a back saver and adds enjoyment to the entire trip. However it does not fit very well on to the rear seat due to the shorter width of the seat. In just one trip alone, the cloth was ripped on both sides of the back rest that comes in contact with the metal gunnels of the canoe. I am now going to move the rear seat a couple of inches towards the front so there will be more room for the back rest to tilt backwards without rubbing against the gunnels. Otherwise I would have given it an easy 5 stars. I like the map compartment on the back of each seat. My friend who complained of a back pain on the previous trip was very happy that these seats eliminated that problem.

Be careful
The idea is a very good one. Just used it today for the second time and again in a 14' canoe. The first time, a few weeks ago, I was actually VERY pleased with the back support, comfort and lightness (easy to carry). But just before clamping it into the canoe today, I noticed that the back brace on both sides was torn slightly. (I recalled another buyer reported this, suggesting the tear was maybe due to rubbing against the sides of the canoe?) I don't know if these tears will get bigger. Next, while paddling and sitting back against the back rest, it collapsed backwards and I fell back into the canoe (lucky it was not sideways). I should note here that the back support is not completely stable in any event. I have no idea how the back collapsed but it occurred to me that if it were to happen to someone who is older/frailer than me, it could cause serious injury. I bought it because I thought it would be useful for more than canoeing or fishing, such as other sports events where some of the seating consists of rows of benches. I do think it will be good for those purposes, but will have to figure out how to ensure that the back will not collapse.
