Great for an Odd Usage Case, Looking Forward to Usage for Wiring
I'd purchased the variety pack of 1/4 to 3/4" grommets, on the hope that one of the larger diameter grommets might fit a certain usage case for a small aftermarket add-on for a KLR650. In short, that's worked out quite well. The grommets are of a pliable but solid quality of material. In my initial usage case - explained shortly, as illustrated in the photo - the 1/2" grommet has worked out perfectly. The KLR650 motorcycle has its clutch mechanism located on the right side of the vehicle. The handlebar clutch control on the bike operates a cable attached to pull rod. The pull rod enters the clutch housing through the top of the clutch case cover. That entry port may not appear to have been completely sealed by the manufacturer. From an external inspection, it looks like there may be some kind of a bushing there. However, I was concerned about the possibility of water, oil, or generally grime working its way down the surface of the pull rod and into the clutch housing area. Albeit, this may not present a great amount of concern but as one possible point of preventative maintenance, I thought it was worth the effort: To try to fit something onto the top of that clutch pull rod, where it enters the clutch cover housing, to at least prevent accumulation of grime at that port. So, I picked up this variety kit of grommets from Gardner Bender, via this seller. In order to fit the grommet for this usage case, I first clipped the grommet longitudinally, across its diameter. Then, using some moderately sturdy metal scissors, I trimmed one surface of the grommet off along the circumference of the smallest-dimension part of the grommet. I didn't cut exactly in the middle of that section, but rather tried to cut as close as possible to the outer layer of the grommet. Subsequently, the modified part provided one flat rubberized washer with a longitudinal cut across its diameter. I then placed the item as pictured. I'm certain that these grommets may have other uses, in household and automotive. Personally, I may be able to use the spare grommets e.g for any wiring add-ons for electrical system components on the vehicle - such as to add a grommet to an aftermarket switch, or to provide some general padding and sealing for where any new wires may pass through a hole in an add-on surface. They're working great for this particular mechanical usage case, sturdy stuff.

Seems like it was a cost reduced design. Not impressed.

good fit, stay in place very well once seated
i used these grommets to protect 5/16" ID (7/16" OD) beer lines as they pass through the walls of a cooler i've made into a jockey box. the openings on these grommets are just barely large enough to allow the beer line to slide through them, which is great because i wanted the external line length to be adjustable without changing the length of the beer line and affecting the line's resistance level. as the cooler walls are constructed of an inner and outer plastic shell with foam filling in between, i needed to use one grommet on the inside wall and another on the outside wall. the stated hole size of 11/16" was also spot-on. these grommets popped into place and fit very well, and they don't "roll" in or out of the hole when adjusting the beer line. i'm sure you could probably pick them up in a store for less than the add-on price on amazon, but you can't beat the convenience of free 2-day shipping for items like this. great buy!

Great product
These grommets work even better than I expected. I used these grommets on my reservoir as part of my lettuce garden's flood and drain hydroponic system. They create a sealed connection, so that you can hook up 1/2 inch tubing, which water flows through. The grommet connection seals completely and effectively, and does not have any leaks. You should make your hole no more than 3/8 inch wide, and "squeeze" the grommet into the hole. It's a pretty tight fit, but I always say "better safe than sorry." You can use silicone to "glue" the grommet into place, other wise the grommet may pop out as you connect your tubing. The only downside is that you only get 4 per pack, which means you have to be extra careful with the ones you get or else you'll lose or misplace them. Overall this is a very good product in my opinion.. Thanks! C. Cole PhD

The right size for 2-wire indoor AC lpower cords
These are the perfect size to use if you want to bring a regular 2-wire line cord (like is found on table lamps, 2-wire household extension cords, etc.)out through a thin metal wall. The line cord fits nicely, and not too tightly, in the gromment's 1/4" hole. I used a step drill from Harbor Freight to drill the 3/8" hole for the grommet in a metal lamp housing - if you haven't discovered step drills, they make drilling clean holes in sheet metal EASY using your power hand drill/driver. My step drill has small 1/16" steps which made the job super easy, although one with 1/8" steps might work OK.

Odorless, watertight seal with a stainless straw!
Love these! My batch of these was odorless, but I've bought another brand in a large pack with awful odor so bad that it even permeated my water in my jar. I used them with a metal lid and a stainless straw, which made a leak proof seal. Over time straw movement makes the rubber rub against the sharp metal edge, and cuts right through the grommet. I'm going to try these in those Ball precut plastic lids that are sold with smoothie straws. Oh, and 24 oz wide mouth Mason jars fit perfectly into Thirty-One Gifts water bottle thermal, if you want insulation and a little cushion to prevent/contain breakage.

As expected...good for cable glands.
These are harder to use than the larger cone backed grommets. If you are looking to build a DIY bato/dutch bucket then I recommend buying a larger diameter cone shaped gommet. If you are using these as cable glands then they will work fine.
