5 featherboards and 8 foot router table

I tried using these bits with my Bosch router table that I bought from Menards. I could probably produce some low quality crown, but I was looking for as close to perfect at possible. I converted some old cabinets to a rolling router table and took all the parts off my Bosch table and produced an 8 foot table so I have plenty of infeed and outfeed. I also built a 9 inch fence with 5 featherboards to stabalize the boards as I run them through my process. I also adhered to freuds instructions which I found very helpful. I think the biggest issue is simply accepting the fact that you need a lengthy infeed and outfeed if you want flawless crown. I do not have to trim ends, it is perfect from end to end. I prefer 4 passes vs 3 passes. I mostly use MDO so I have very consistent results. The cost to produce enough trim for a room is so low. However, I've invested alot of time into my process. I measure everything in 32nds to maintain my quality and only use boards that are exactly 5 1/2 inches, else results are poor. I posted some pics if my results after sanding the line that is produced after routing the upper-profile. I only use Freud bits... Amazing products. I can produce higher quality than anything found in a store... I take pride in the process, it is a highly satisfying addiction:)

Nice profile - Setup your table properly

I used these bits to route a profile on a 5" high square base frame for a rotating bookshelf. I started with planed stock in both width and thickness. It was imperative to have stock that was the same width to allow the profiles to line up once the ends were mitred. Before each pass, I adjusted the fence and feather boards. It was very important to use double feather boards on the table and to have two f/b's attached to the table's fence. With this setup, I only had to push the boards from the end...no hand support around the bit. The finished product was very good. I had minor areas where the two bits left a line, but it was easily sanded out, even though I was using curly maple. I did get a little chatter 3-4" on the ends of the boards, but these were offcut when mitreing. BTW, Woodcraft has examples of routed profiles in their stores under the display. That is how I decided on which bit set to choose. Happy routing.

The price was right

The price is certainly right, and they look very sharp. We purchased these as a gift and the packaging was broken when they arrived which was very disappointing but our son in law thought they did not look used. RELIEF since we bought them for him for Christmas. I will update this when he is able to use them. We offered to return them but he was pretty excited about getting them, especially this brand because it's a brand that retails at a much higher price. I'll add pics soon.

Hard to get

Freud bits are top of the line. I am replenishing after my shop got robbed and it is very difficult to find router bit sets. So I had to over pay for these but I need them for a project I have to start right away.

Freud Crown Molding bits

The bits are terrific. The documentation is lacking as well as the poor packaging for shipment. Their light plastic case is good for a store display but is dismal for shipment. Mine arrived with the plastic shattered, luckily the bits were OK. They perform very well and are extremely sharp. They recommend three passes to complete the profie. I chose to do four, with the last at about 0.010" just to polish the mahogany I was milling for a book case project.

Great set of bits, poor packaging

I received the bits in a flimsy plastic packaging. Although I haven't got the chance to use them yet, they seem very well engineered and are very sharp. 1 of the bit has gotten some dents on it, they're not too deep and it seems as it happened during shipping. It's a shame that such quality products that you pay top dollar for come in such cheap packaging. As soon as I've used them I will update my review. I'm still hoping the dents won't affect the finishing too much. On documentation, there was a piece of cardboard with the packaging illustrating the type of moldings you can create. As I'm familiar with these bits, that seems sufficient enough for me.

Crown moulding router bit set

Although these bits are well made they are too large for my porter cable 1-1/2 hp router to handle. I set one up with the router and router table and tried to run a board through. There was so much vibration that I had to shut it off. I guess I'll be buying a shaper so I can use these.
