Probably works best for bigger dogs with long hair and/or undercoat
I have two small breed dogs; one with short hair and the other with slightly longer hair. I had lots of hope for the Franklin Pet Supply Shed-Master Dog Grooming Brush. I do like the fact that I can easily clean brush just by pressing a button but that’s all I can say as positive about this product. In my case it didn’t remove any additional hairs than my normal wire brush. My dogs usually don’t mind the brushing but for reasons they didn’t like this one; I was as gentle as I could be and tried not to press it hard against their body. Based on my experience I feel this is a good brush for bigger dogs with longer hair.

Not very effective on a short-haired weimaraner, thumb gets tired
Both of my weimaraners have coats that I can get plenty off of with a Furminator for short hair. I don't have the more recent version that has an ejector button for accumulated hair, so I thought I'd try this. Unfortunately, it is a fairly long pin version of a slicker brush and does remove much hair at all from my dogs. I imagine it would be much more effective on a thicker coated dog like a retriever or pittie mix. It also requires you to depress a rather stiff button to push the pins through the grill that removes the hair--there's no locking mechanism to keep it in brushing mode! My thumb got tired quickly!

Good brush with some caveats
I have two dogs, a borzoi and a fluffy medium-sized mixed breed. The borzoi has very sensitive skin and she does not like the way this brush feels on her skin, so I can't use it with her. My mixed breed has a very thick fur coat, including a very thick undercoat. Her fur reminds me a bit of that of an Australian Shepherd. She likes when I use this brush on her since it doesn't rub on her skin. A lot of fur comes off when I use this brush and I feel like it's productive. It doesn't grab the undercoat that well though. The brushes specifically designed for undercoats work better for her. This brush is good for using after I get some of the undercoat out first. This brush is really convenient because I can retract the bristles to throw the fur in the trash and store the brush with the bristle retracted. The quality of this brush is decent. It's not super high quality, but it's also not bad. This is a good brush for those who are budget conscious and who have dogs with thick coats.

Love this brush!
I'll get the one 'con' out of the way first - my cats want nothing to do with this brush. While I can get them to sit still for a brush that has bigger/softer 'bristles', they do not like shedding brushes and this one is no exception. That said, my dogs are fine with this brush (they also prefer non-shedding brushes but will sit through being brushed with a shedding one if I insist on it). Let's be real, it's me who really loves it. I have a retriever mix with a very fluffy undercoat - not only does this brush do a great job of deshedding her, but its surface area is a bit bigger than my previous shedding brush, which is nice. On top of that, the ease of cleaning this brush - just push the button and the bristles retract, allowing you to trash the fur that had been attached to them - is just amazing. Four stars instead of five because the button does feel a bit cheaply made.

Best Suited For Certain Types of Dogs
This brush is of decent, but not exemplary quality. Feels good in the hand and functions overall well. I like how when you press the button, the brush retracts and all the fur falls off in the trash, a very nice design feature. It should be clarified that this brush is for thick haired dogs only as the metal brush will be very uncomfortable to any other sort of dog, and my cat wants nothing to do with it. So this brush has a particular, and somewhat narrow focus that’s not obviously stated in the description. Ultimately, its not well suited for my pets, but I can see how it could be good for certain types of dogs with long, thick hair.

Works pretty well
To use this brush, you push a button to expose the bristles, and then release to force the hair off the brush. It works pretty well. I did find, however, that this brush would benefit form a lock to keep the bristles out. Also, it tends to get stuck once in a while. The construction is moderately cheap, but it has lasted a few weeks already, so maybe it will be fine in the long-term. I still prefer the shedding blades over this brush, but if you prefer a brush, then this self-cleaning version works fine.
