ALC lighting performing as advertised.

The ALC lighting (more red/blue) is bringing out the deep Reds in plants the HLC (more PAR light) didn't. All without sacrificing the green colors both light, and darks. Penetrates deep into a 20 long well reaching carpet plants. Very pleased with both the HLC (Green plants) and ALC (Red color plants) at this price point! ALC vs, HCL do differ in brightness so choose one based on plant needs. Type/color. Remote is actually user friendly and very versatile in settings. Blue tooth capability would make the Finnex line even more fantastic! A sure bet for purchase.

Not quite 5 stars but worth purchasing

Affordable, bright and customizable. The complication arises when trying to customize the lights for 24/7 setting. One really has to read the manual to program it. The only indication that you are changing the settings is through lights blinking. In order to set the time, you have to set it to the closest time interval (3-6-9-12pm-3pm-6pm, etc).

Native planted tank

This light was purchased in 2021 and only stopped running when hurricane Ida knocked out power for 3 weeks. My tanks have been planted with locally sourced bayou plants and Ludwigia sp. from a ditch that stays inundated with water. It grows all of these plants very well. Once established I have not had to perform a water change, only top offs with supplemental nutrients. This tank had American wild celery and a ridiculous bio load pre hurricane and never had a discernable showing of NO / PO products in the water. It definitely gives a fair bang for your buck.

No serious complaints

This has worked well for getting light to the plants in my 55g tank. The 24/7 cycle simulates day and night and is easy to set up (just push a button). My only complaint is that the night/100% dark cycle only seems to last maybe 4 hours and I'd feel better if that was a full 8 hours. It's programmable so the dark cycle can be adjusted. I just wish it was 8 hours out of the box.

Good bang for the buck

The ALC version is the best as far as the Finnex planted series for Par rating . For the price Your not going to get a better light that is programmable. But their are limitations lest say I wanted the 12am to 3pm to be off, that is doable , but the 3am to 6am slot is not because for some reason at 5am the light will come on no matter what You set , PERIOD . Next , back to the par , at best on my 18 inch deep tank it is barely able to keep my low growing plants alive . Now if Your tank is shorter maybe it will do . I am definitely going to have to upgrade . My plants that have reached to mid level in the tank are showing signs of growth with even some red leaves showing . Proving my point that , while this is a bright light, par is just not their at lower levels Now to the light , this is bright , so much to the point of washing out the reds, and the greens, . You can adjust the level but I suspect You will lower par in the process. Final Thought Finnex needs to Up their game , time to start thinking about a 24/7 Planted plus Pro edition . Dump the time slots and add a real time clock , start thinking of upping the wattage to the 50-75or even 100 watt watt range instead of a paltry 36 watt . double the leds. Dump the old school remote for a Bluetooth app it is 2022 not 1995 . The tech is their time to use it . Also make this waterproof Are You listing Finnex ??

Makes the aquarium beautiful.

Love the lighting options it gives, but one of the best options is the 24/7 feature. You just set it up and it changes lighting at different times of day automatically. Easy to set up and install. But the unit is shipped in it's original box and mine came with large tears in the side, but after checking it didn't damage the unit.

Highly recommend, great light.

Bought two for my 65 gallon, heavily planted tank. The tank is tall so I did need two to produce high intensity lighting. I inject co2 and use liquid fertilizer four to five times a week. These lights have help improve growth to all my plants. I considered the Fluval 3.0, but buying the two Finnex ALC was less of a cost than two Fluval’s. I did not want another app on my phone. The Fixxex remote is simple to use. Set it and forget it. Even with a power interruption, the setting remains until you change it. I run the 24/7 mode, sunrise to sunset. The light goes off at night. Come on at 5am, ramps up at the highest intensity about 1pm. Light ramps down like the sunset. Turn’s completely off at about 10pm. Check them out on the internet

Not very easy to program

I've attempted to customize the lighting settings on the 24 hour program based on the instructions. Unfortunately, it seems to revert back to the original settings. I do not know what I am doing wrong. Also, the remote is highly dependent on line of sight to control. I have to hold the remote in an awkward position to change settings, due to the height and position of my tank.

strong light

the light is fantastic. the only issue is that it only comes with the rimless tank legs. the other legs to secure it to rimmed tank are missing (hence the 3 start) Finnex how to get those missing legs supplied?

Worth every penny

My plants are growing better with this light than any other I have. Just need to replace them all with finnex planted+ now!

Bright and reasonably priced

Bright enough to grow even Eriocaulon Cinereum with ease 11 inches down, and my monte carlo is doing great 15 inches down. The only downside is that it does run rather hot, maybe 40c, but its definitely bright enough to handle high difficulty plants. I have had it for about a month and will update this review as time passes.

Good light. Bad programming method

Light is good. It is keeping my plants alive and healthy. Issue is program function. I have a masters degree in engineering and even I was frustrated - I am used to programming twenty year old tech but this was whole other level. Ended up putting it on Kasa timer and control from there. It loses the sun rise etc if controller from timer but I don't think the trouble of programming it is worth it. Still recommended.
