Toy
Bought for a child. He loves it but not very durable.

A Gorilla Warrior! What More Can You Ask For
The figure is wonderfully detailed and realistic. I've never seen a mutant warrior ape but I have seen lowland gorillas and this guy looks just like one (albeit with armor and weapons). He actually has a more realistic face and head than the Papo "non-mutant" mountain gorilla figure. I'm a 65-year-old child when it comes to figurines, a lifelong lover of animals and primates in particular, and a huge sci-fi/fantasy fan and so when I went searching for new animal figures for my soon-to-be 3-year-old grandson and saw this among the Papo offerings, I had to have it. I'm delighted to say my grandson has inherited my love of animals and realistic figures (apparently it skipped a generation with his dad), but I thought that he might be too young for this one. I wasn't concerned about the weapons, and it didn't appear from the photos that it might scare him, I just thought the concept of an anthropomorphized gorilla might be a little beyond his imagination. I was very wrong. When I showed it to him along with two other gorilla figures I recently purchased, he was all over this one. So now I'm buying him one for his birthday next week. I haven't conducted a close comparison between the marketing photos and the figure to determine if they look exactly the same. If I'm happy with a product, I never do and I'm very happy with this one. There is nothing noticeably missing from the figure that appears in the photo. Both the katana and the wicked-looking ax/sword are removable, and both fit in the right hand that has a hole to receive them. Neither can be held in the left hand. The shaft of the ax/sword does not fit into the katana's harness. None of the armor is removable or moveable which was not unexpected, but I thought it worth noting here because it seems other customers have some unrealistic expectations, in general, of these figures. The figure is made of a hard and durable plastic that I'm sure will last a very long time of heavy play, but it will not bend. The limbs are not articulated and the stance the gorilla comes with is the only one you or your child will ever see. Again, this is perfectly fine by me, but these reviews are meant to be helpful and I've seen that some people are disappointed when they buy a Papo figure and they can't pose it in different positions. The weapons are flexible and they seem sturdy to me. They held up when my grandson played with them today, and I think they will for good long while but they've not been tested by me. They are relatively small and can easily be lost though. I would not give them to a child younger than my grandson. He might lose them but he's not going try and eat them and risk choking. This figure isn't priced at a bargain-basement level but in my opinion, it's quality creates value in excess of its cost. If you or the child in your life are anything like me and my grandson, I feel certain that you will not be disappointed.

Get base for a project idea
Had an idea in my I had to work on. The figure was a little smaller than I thought it was but turn out great for my plan.

Lots of fun
Fair Warning: I'm just going to post this in all my animal items needing reviews unless one of them stands out for good or ill. My son has a built up a heck of a collection made up of Papo, Collecta, and Schleich, and Safari Ltd. My son and I, or he and his friend, have enjoyed playing with them, some for several years. As there is often a predator-prey battle, there can be some violent collisions, "clawing", "pouncing upon", etc. The Papo, Schleich, and Collecta are high quality replicas--all good build quality, durable, wonderfully detailed, a good weight and heft but not overly so, and they have held up without any issues (as mentioned, I'll note any exceptions in the individual review). The Safari Ltd. have suffered the most from the treatment, though the vast majority of those creatures have come through relatively unscathed. I'd say they're lesser quality i both durability and craftsmanship, but they are more than adequate for playing even somewhat roughly with. If it has thin legs, or other parts, it might be better to go the Schleich or Collecta, as they really are excellent build quality. But for creatures without a lot of appendages or thin parts (say, a beaver), the Safari are fine, if not quite as nicely made. As for the mutant line by Papo, my 11-12 yr old loves playing with them. They are original, very cool to look at, solidly constructed, and hold up to lots of battles (including having various homemade projectiles tossed or catapulted at them). The line makes for a lot of imaginative fun.

Great detail, but one problem...
Review from 7 Year Old Boy: Love the toy. There is some issues with it. The big problem is that the battle axe. I was running on soft carpet and accidentally dropped it and the axe broke in two. We tried to super glue it and it broke again. Papo might want to make their weapons out of a stronger or more flexible plastic, so as not to break. If you did get one of these toys and it hasn't broken yet, please be careful with the weapons.

Wonderful Toy.
The Papo Gorilla Mutant is an excellent toy, as are all of the toys that I have purchased from this company. The detail in the sculpt is breathtaking. Papo makes sure they have every single wrinkle in the skin and every single hair on the head sculpted just right. While some of the weapons for the other figures in this series are difficult to remove, the Gorilla Mutant's weapons are interchangeable. As a figure on my desk, the Gorilla Mutant is wonderful. He gets lots of compliments and is stunning to look at. As an adult, that is pretty much all I look for in a toy. For a child, though, there is both good and bad in this toy. First of all, it is very sturdy. It stands well and is solid plastic. It can stand up to quite a bit of abuse. For children who are used to a lot of moving parts, though, this toy might not be what they are looking for. The Gorilla Mutant has no moving parts at all, unless you consider the weapons that can be swapped. I still rate this Gorilla Mutant, and all the others I've purchased from Papo, as 5 out of 5.

Small but Mighty!
I bought this figure along with 5 of the other mutant animal figures for my grandson. First the con: These are quite small- much smaller than I expected. They'll be fine because he'll use them with his castle which has a lot of Schleich knights and dragons but it was a bit of a shock when I opened the box. The pros: they look pretty sturdy and have some pretty cool weapons and accessories. The detail on all of them is good - maybe not quite as excellent as the Schleich figures but pretty nice. I think the Ram and the Rhino are the coolest of the bunch! This is the first time I've bought Papo figures. As I mentioned I gave purchased many of the knights and dragons and also the Schleich Greek mythology figures which totally rock. My grandson will certainly love these but I wish -for the price - they were a little bit bigger.
