Big enough for full grown leopard gecko!

First off, my gecko is a full grown, 14 year old male. He's recently been having trouble lifting his back legs, and it's most likely the beginning stages of metabolic bone disease (common in some reptiles, but can be prevented with proper care). I used to have a Zilla Medium Rock Layer for him, but that was way too small and cramped for a full grown gecko. And I honestly believe that the Zilla moist hide I was using before is part of what caused my gecko's back problems too. This Exo Terra Cave is perfect for a COOL, MOIST hide! And it's spacious inside for my gecko to turn around without hurting himself! If you use it as a moist hide, just be sure to spritz it often as the moisture will evaporate eventually. It's essential to have 2 caves for leopard geckos, one moist and cool, and one dry and warm. This one traps in moisture so it's good. Don't recommend using it for a warm hide though because if you use a heat mat under the tank, it won't heat all the way through the tank, the substrate, and then the bottom of this cave too so it wouldn't get warm enough. I love this brand (Exo Terra) because their items are smooth (no sharp edges to file down, nothing to hurt your pets), easy to clean, and the shape of them is very well thought out so that these caves will be perfect for any reptile, amphibian, etc. The lid as shown is detachable for easy cleaning, and easy to spray to keep moist. The Pop Socket in the picture is for size reference. The entry hole is big enough for a leopard gecko and similar sized species. I wouldn't recommend for a ball python or snakes of that size because the entry is an "O" and the snake may get stuck if it is too big to fit through the hole. Could probably DIY and take off the bottom part of the entry though if you're careful. Sphagnum Moss is better for this cave, but I'm all out so using moist paper towels for now. It's awesome, highly recommend it!

Well made!!

This was a great purchase for my leopard gecko. She is about 5-6 months old. Albino. Kind of a chunky girl, but I've got her in a diet now. I purchased the large size and currently have her in a 20 gallon tank. I'm planning on moving her to a more well planned deluxe environment, so I purchased this as one of her hiding huts. It's very spacious and can also double up as a humidity hut for when she's shedding. It's definitely well weighted, and has a good texture in case she decides to climb on top of it. I would highly suggest purchasing this for anyone who has a smaller sized reptile.

Perfect for a humid hide!

I recently upgraded my leopard gecko's terrarium and this has made for the perfect humid hide. There are a lot of questions/comments about size....if you have an adult leopard gecko, get the large. This has been one of my favorite purchases for my leo and she loves it too!

Comparing two brands for a fat adult leopard gecko So the Grey has a tunnel entrance vs just a hole for this brand. Physically it takes up less room than the other brand. The inside space on the larges are about the same. Inside comparison is the large exo terra vs medium zilla. In the pics with four - the two on the left are both "large" and two on right are "med"

Great product

This is the size differences between a small and medium, I bout it for my leopard gecko which grew out of the small one pretty fast. He loves his wet hide, I would definitely recommend at least getting the medium one!

AMAZING hide

this is my geckos absolute favorite hide, and it’s AMAZING!! the hide itself is heavy and sturdy, so you don’t have to worry about your reptile moving the top. the top is removable which makes it super easy to clean and fine your reptile! my gecko also uses it as a basking spot or hides under the sides!

Perfect as a damp hide for my leopard gecko

I got this hide for my new leopard gecko and it’s perfect to use as a damp hide. Size wise it’s actually smaller inside than it seems and I’m really glad I got the large. The door to the hide is a good size but is a little way above the ground so if you have a smaller leopard gecko you may want to add a stone or something under it to help them climb them. I have it in a 4ft viv and takes up very little space. There’s still plenty of room for my guy though and he seems to be happy enough hiding out in there. The fact that it has a base and the whole of the top comes off makes it perfect to add moss and creat a damp hide for a leopard gecko to help with shedding. It’s easy to clean and the lip on the bottom of the base keeps the moss in place even when you lift the top off, so you can check it regularly for any mould or mess. The whole hide looks great and really natural and far more attractive than the homemade damp hides I’ve had for other reptiles. It isn’t the cheapest hide but it’s really practical and I do think it’s worth the money. Overall I’m really happy with this hide and would definitely recommend it, especially the large sized one for leopard geckos.

Spider not snake

I bought this cave for my male albino corn snake, he hate's it took one look inside and turned away, so i'm going to have to buy the cheaper better cave again as he like the female albino corn snake cave, but sum time's she won't have him in so he need's some where, some where he like's, not this cave, but i have a tarantula that is just about the right size to grow into the cave, with a big anothe opening so she can grow full size, and the dish in the bottom which hess hated would hold the dirt in place they like.

My gecko likes it

I'm glad I read the reviews or else I might not have gotten the large size which is perfect for my adult leopard gecko. The small cave might seem adequate from the pictures but it would not have been worth the lower price. Any moss used should be checked every few days between spritzing to see about replacing with fresh moss. Am very pleased with this cave.

Great for creating moist hide

We had a different Exo Terra hide from day one, but bought this one to use as a moist hide when our leopard gecko was about to shed. It arrived quickly, we put moist moss in and when the gecko did shed he spent a lot of time in there. It comes in two parts, a base and a cave-like upper part. Our gecko is around 4 months old, so quite young still but had absolutely no trouble getting in even though the opening isn't level with the ground. Very happy with this purchase.

It's okay once you've modified it

Several problems with this: *There are two holes in the bottom from where it's attached to the packaging - I had to fill these with blue tack as I bought this to be a humid/wet hide! So far the tack has held but as this is placed on a heated floor I hope it doesn't melt. *The door is raised off the floor - I had to put a flat stone in front to tempt my lizard in. *The lid doesn't fit the base well - again I had to use blue tack to stick it on. On the plus side, it looks nice, it's not a bad size and it does the job once you've fixed it up with blue tack and added a stepping stone...
