that was not at all straight forward
It wasn't hard to figure out the wiring, that was pretty straight forward, I've wired switches before. Worst problem was the box was crowded, it's a dual switch for porch light & inside foyer lights. My goal is to have it turn the front porch light on at dusk and off at dawn, 7 days a week. I don't need or want the random stuff or the other 17 schedules. Just one program, off every morning, on every evening. I got the clock set and that works fine. I set ~program one~ at all seven days, on at 8pm, off at 6:15am. And that's as far as I got with it. The instructions are as clear as a bucket of mud. They are obviously translated (poorly) from Chinese. The touch panel seems to make contact with three different buttons that say "MAN" which are obviously the manual override buttons. But why three of them? Are they all identical? Or does pressing different ones do different things? I can't figure that out. Why not just ONE button? So then you press them and it cycles through the options of: 1. Man ON 2. Man OFF 3. Auto ON 4. Auto OFF It seems if the display reads MAN ON or MAN OFF, the light is on or off and does not operate in auto mode and won't revert to the schedule. If it reads AUTO ON the light is on even if it's the middle of the day. And it if says AUTO OFF and it's the middle of the night, the light is off despite the schedule. So the past two days it would not shut off in the morning no matter what the buttons are set to. Yesterday I set it to AUTO OFF and it stayed off all day then when 8pm came it turned on as I would expect it to. But this morning it did not turn off at 6:15 as it should have. It just doesn't seem to want to shut off on it's own. I have no idea why and I don't know if I'm pressing the right buttons. The instructions are just stupid and make no sense at all. Like my thermostat there should be a RUN button that you press after you set the program. I'm going to give it a few more days before I junk it and go buy one at Lowe's. It was cheap enough to make it not worth the hassle to ship back if it's defective. I don't know if it's not working right because it's a POS or if I'm using it wrong. For now I rate it at OK but I may downgrade it in a few days if it turns out to be defective. edit: A few notes I forgot to mention. Pressing the buttons does cycle the light(s) on and off so the switch mechanism is operating. I can hear a relay click as the lights go on and off. It's just that it will not ~automatically~ turn the lights OFF by schedule. It does turn them on automatically. The light is a pair of standard old school Edison socket front porch lamps on either side of the front door that were wired to a single on/off switch. They originally had a 40 watt "flame" shaped ornamental bulb in each fixture. I replaced those bulbs (before installing this timer) with a pair of GE brand, 2.5 watt / 100 lumen "flame" shaped ornamental LED bulbs. So the total load on the switch is only 5 watts. Added a photo of one of the lamps that is wired in parallel. Edit: I FINALLY, FINALLY figured this stupid thing out! When I programmed it I ASSUMED that the DAY setting would apply to both the on and the off time during programming. Once again it was turning ON at night, per schedule but not turning off every morning. I was trying to make a new timer setting for timer 2 thinking the #1 spot was messed up. I entered the ON time then had to press DAY several times until it showed all 7 days of the week. Then when I went to set the OFF time for 6:15am I noticed that the DAY setting went from showing all 7 days, it was only showing TU which is right now! ZING! So then I pressed DAY several times and it then showed all 7 days on the OFF time. REALLY? REALLY??? Why would it not just use the same DAY entry within a single timer entry? SO STUPID this thing is! The instructions are a 100% FAIL, they are completely worthless. It took me a week to finally stumble upon the right way to program this thing by pure accident. I suppose that with all things considered the potential ways you could program this thing would make a back hole collapse in upon itself and swallow the universe. Doctor Who would have a nervous breakdown trying to operate this thing. Now that it works right I'll bump it up one star. I almost gave it zero stars this morning and a few whacks with a large hammer until I stumbled upon the right way to program it. I can't give it five stars because, 1. It's overly complex with far too many potential options. 2. The instructions are complete rubbish. Throw them away and start poking buttons, you'll eventually figure it out before you'll comprehend the rubbish instructions. If they would make it LESS STUPID and have someone that SPEAKS ENGLISH to write proper instructions it could be a 5 star gadget. The price was right but really, it's driven me insane trying to figure it out.

Don't give up...It took a while, but I figured it out!
I'm so happy with this switch. Great purchase and at $21 US it was a great value. 5-stars! Here's the journey I went thru installing it... I'm not an electrician by any stretch, although I am smart enough to turn off the main breaker to avoid electrocuting myself. When I removed my old dumb switch, I noticed it just had 2 black wires attached to it. The dumb switch breaks the circuit, and the lights go out. Simple. How hard could this new smart switch be, right? Turns out the smart switch is more complicated and requires a "neutral wire". Huh?? What's that??? My house was built in 1961, 2 decades before the "neutral wire" was standard (I googled). I never even noticed the "neutral wire required" on this product's listing, and frankly I had no idea what a neutral wire even was. I hooked up the smart switch as best I could and it didn't work. At that point I resigned myself to the fact that this switch wasn't compatible with my old 60s wiring. I almost gave up. The next day, I did more googling and looked deeper in my old wiring and noticed a cluster of unused white wires hidden in the back. I thought MAYBE these were neutral wires. It was worth a shot! I attached one of these mystery white wires to the white neutral wire hookup on the switch, and to my dismay, it STILL didn't work! For the second time, almost gave up. Then I decided to try one last experiment. In my wall, there are TWO black wires. In my total lack of electrical knowledge, I assumed they were interchangeable...I mean, they are both the same color, so logically that would mean they are the same, right? With the old dumb switch these 2 black wires are interchangeable, so why would a smart switch be any different, right? Turns out one of these black wires is the "hot" wire, and the other one is the "load" wire...but since they are both black, I had no way of knowing which was which...and since they were both colored black I made the assumption that they were interchangeable. NEVER assume anything! With literally zero confidence that it would work, I tried reversing the black wires, and voila!!! It worked! All my hard work and perseverance paid off. The moral of the story is DON'T GIVE UP! Programming it was fairly easy. Just make sure your program uses "MO TU WE TH FR SA SU" day setting (every day of the week displayed at the same time). I skimmed the manual and ignored that part at first, and just made a program for one day. You can also store up to 18 different programs. I only needed 1. The "Random" feature is really useful too. It just randomizes the on and off times by a 30-minute random window. So, if you program the lights to turn on at 8 PM, it will pick a random time within a 30 minute window of 8 PM (up to 15 minutes before, and/or 15 minutes after). This just makes the lights appear to be turned on by a human rather than the exact same time every day and night. Burglars case their targets carefully, and this randomness could scare them away. Install and enjoy!

Exactly what I wanted
It's been working great for a couple months, I just have it turning the outside lights on and off at the same time every day. Occasionally I switch it to manual mode to leave them on later than usual. Installation wasn't too bad. I don't have much experience with home wiring and I had to make some educated guesses about which wires were which, based on the connections to the old switch as well as multi-meter measurements. There was no dedicated ground so I added that, just a wire connected to the metal junction box. Once I hooked everything up it worked right away. My only concern with the product is that the plastic door covering the buttons seems a bit flimsy, it seems like it could break off pretty easily if you weren't careful.

Great Buy
This was the least expensive Timer switch of this type that I could find. I am more than pleased with the product after installing it. Very easy to install and program with clear easy to understand instructions. It is working perfectly and extremely accurate. I would definitely choose this model again.

Easy to Install
I bought this switch to replace another programable switch I bought two years ago from a store. The problem with the switch from the store is that it did not have a battery backup, and its programable option was awful -- not even the weekly off/on time correctly. I was using it like normal on/off switch. With the new one, it was easy to install as I just needed to plug it the same way as the old one. And the programable option works just fine. If you have big fingers, just use a pencil (eraser side) to press on the buttons :D. I bought it just one week before DST. And with the DST button...voilà, the time is changed accordingly.

Easy for my electrician to wire up and has worked ...
Easy for my electrician to wire up and has worked well so far for months. This is connected to a outdoor sconce so I can configure it to turn off/on based on a desired schedule. Fully capable of controlling 2 LED bulbs on a single lighting system. It's also easy to program multiple schedules so it can adjust for changes in season and sunset/sunrise. Instructions were written well enough to be understood and programming it was fairly 'logical'. Backlight on display panel works great for dark operations. With the price of the timer and all this functionality, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Easy to use, timer works great and looks good.
Installation is fairly easy if you already know a little about how to install a switch. Instructions are good to help you with the programming. Timer goes off and on at the set times. All the buttons are hidden by a door, so this timer witch actually looks good on the wall.
