It works as it should.

My trimmer metal exit hole went flying off to oblivion. I tried to get just the part I needed for cheap. It was not worth it. Buy this complete assembly which has everything all as new. A little bit hard to disassemble, (you will need a snap ring pliers) but assembly is a breeze. The original broke due to hardened trimmer cord. Beware only use the type approved string to avoid damage.

the jury is still out

Let me start by affirming I very much like the EGO products. I have a push mower, chainsaw and string trimmer, all EGO. The string trimmer has presented challenges and by virtue of multiple YT videos, apparently others struggle, too. The issue is with the mechanism that auto loads the string. For me, it works correctly about 30% of the time. The rest of the time I have to take it apart and futz with it. It got so bad I assumed (and wrongly so I now believe) I needed to replace the trimmer head which I did. The first time I loaded string with the new head, it worked fine. After that (and since), back to the same old woes. YT videos suggest removing the head and cleaning it to resolve the issue. First, that seems like an obtuse remedy if that is what is required each time. Secondly, there was no dirt in mine. I hope the folks at EGO are listening. This feels like a design flaw. Until a better solution/product is made available, I will stick with my marginal rating.

UPDATED REVIEW TO: Great Replacement Head For The EGO Trimmer

UPDATE: I originally ordered this head for my trimmer in late June 2021. I have added line 3 times including the 1st when I received the head. The head ceased to be operational on 9/13/21. When additional string is added to the trimmer, the head will not wind the string into the head. If this is the time frame for one of these replacement heads to work properly, then it is certainly not a good buy. I will have to order a new head since the trimmer is so expensive. However, this is certainly not an acceptable circumstance. If I had known what the result of his would be, the head would have been rated a "1". _________________________________________________________________________________________ The head on my Ego Trimmer ceased to function and would not add the string to the trimmer. The replacement process took about 5 minutes, and within another 2 minutes, new string was added to the trimmer. It took me a minute to figure out how to change the head, even with the instructions, but it was definitely an easy process. I would definitely purchase again.

Extremely easy installation

I was surprised at how quickly I removed the old unit and replaced the new head. The most difficult part was removing the C-ring and a special tool is actually provided. In all the entire switchover took about 8 minutes.

Oem replacement

Easy to install. Fixed the problem of replacement line not feeding as it should. Didn't rate the durability of this replacement as we just installed. Hopefully it will last longer then the original.

Poorly constructed

I have purchased several Ego products from Home Depot. Unfortunately, they are not selling them anymore. I had a really BAD experience with their Dresden Ontario repair shop and will never return and another in Wallaceburg has closed. The trimmer head is great - when it works for the first few times BUT then, just like a jack in the box, it will fly apart flinging parts every which way! I don't know why they wouldn't make the head out of steel - the bumper part. I guess so we can keep buying them. DON'T PAY FOR THE WARRANTY from Asurion - I purchased a 4 year plan last May 21st and I was told yesterday that it is not a part covered under warranty so they are going to refund the money!! I asked why the system didn't catch it. I am currently TRYING to get a replacement directly from Ego in the US as I have other issues with other equipment. It's a little cheaper but I had to wait for the trimmer quite a while last year - it was replacing the one I bought the year before, so I will probably buy it from Amazon again. In the meantime, I bought a cheap Radley on sale. GOOD LUCK!

Great

Take all I needed was a spring but buying and shipping just a spring was too close to just a new head entirely. Super easy to install. Needed to go buy an adapter to loosen The old and tighten the new. No biggie. The auto load stopped working and this fixed that.

not as good as original

original head worked great until it lost one of the metal string outlet pieces. unable to buy just the part I needed I ordered a complete new head. The new unit doesn't self wind 1st time, every time like the original. It takes many rethreadings and tries before it will self thread. I bought the EGO because of the self thread feature, this head is more frustrating than my old hand thread unit
