Make sure to give it time.
I would definitely allow at least 5 minutes if not a few minutes more to get an accurate temperature reading. Other than that works great and can even see the color from the light through bubbles.

Really helpful for first-time-parents...
We ordered this thermometer to get it easier if the water is warm enough and not to hot for our little daughter. Of course there is always a method to check temperature by the back of your hand or elbow, but after you come back from undressing with the baby in your arms its sometime hard to say it water is still warm enough. Or por example if water is running in, when it will arrive the right temp. And after few times that we had used it now, it makes it so easy to have always that same temperature what makes our little sunshine happy... "The Duckymeter"... came with batteries inside already (seems like, just a few little screws easy to open the water proof cover on the bottom for replace them once in the furture) and turned on as soon it has the first contact with water by closing the little contact on the downside (3 little metal spots what are connected by the water). The Teperature changes fast and nearby continously (its still digital) in 0.1 °F steps. The nice thing is that the colored light of the display is changing from blue to green as soon as the water reaches the right temperature-zone (about 98 to 102°F) and also get red if it becomes over 102°F (exactly at 102.3 I think). Thats awesome since you see on the first few what is going on... Personally I am more with the numbers since I like to keep the water more or less constant - its still a 4°F range. So I always keep an Eye on that. So the good thing for me is: The numbers on the display are big enough... Apropos big... the duck it self is a bit bigger than I thought and I think it may become a toy not before our cutie is about a year since it also have its weight (not too much, but...). We also sometimes remove it from the tub during the bath/washing itself since the baby tub is not really that spacious. And may be interessting for some of you... the surface/material is not that soft than you may expect if you think of on of those bath-ducks. Its plastic and NOT squeezeable. But still the material is comfortable and the surface is "cozy" to touch. I can definitively recomend this Therometer... Since even if its not really a toy (yet) it works very well it swims by itself on the surface and last but not least the ducky-optic doesnt make your little one crying by watching it :-)

I love this duck!
This is the best bath duck ever! The battery was dead when I got it, but once I changed it out, it worked perfectly. It has a color indicator, blue for cold, green for just right, and red for too hot for baby. The color indicator is great, but the real help is the specific temperature. I couldn't live without it! I am able to run my babies bath at what would be too hot for him (around 102), but by the time I'm done filling his tub (The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn To Toddler Tub Blue - we love it too!! The sling makes the difference) and getting my baby undressed, the water will have cooled to about 100.2 degrees which is just perfect for my little boy. If it's hotter than that he gets upset and if it's colder the water gets too cold before we're done washing. Without this duck I'd be guessing (or trying to use my candy thermometer to figure out the temp) and my baby would probably be unhappy or get cold. Now I can get the exact right temperature every time without any extra work or hassle. Not to mention, my baby can play with the bright yellow duck as he gets older. As advertised, this duck is fully submersible, activates when it touches water and deactivates when dry. Be sure to dry off the bottom and not to set it on a wet counter when bath time is over, because even the smallest amount of water can connect the diodes on the bottom and keep your ducky running until the next bath.

Oh what fun it is! (Update: Sort of...)
I picked up this novel little take on the rubber ducky for my son who just turned one. He loves ducks and his favorite word is "Quack", perhaps because it sounds a little like "Quacker", his favorite snack. But I digress... Functionally, this little gem is simple and intelligent in it's design. The underside of the duck has contact points that cause the thermometer to come on automatically when it is floating in water, and to turn off when it isn't. There is a digital readout on the top of the duck that shows the temperature of the water. Depending on the temperature, a light is emitted around the temperature readout (blue indicates the water is on the chilly side, green that it's "just right", and red alerts you to a bath that might be too hot.) Andrew loves that he can make the light come off and on by placing the duck in and out of the water. When I say "quack" he immediately looks around and grabs the duck and hands it to me, which is a fun little game. And I love that I can just drop the duck in the bottom of the tub when I start to fill it and walk away knowing that I can quickly check in halfway through to see if I need to adjust the temp of the water. All in all a fun little purchase that has brought more smiles to bath time. Update: After a few of months of use, the digital display continued to light up but stopped displaying anything resembling numbers. I suspected that water got into the battery area (which it had). I took the cover off, cleaned out the inside as best I could, and put a new battery in and it worked fine for a little while until the same thing happened. It was fun while it lasted, but would have hoped it lasted longer than it did. Hopefully yours will last longer.

Nice but flat leaky batteries
Out of the box it barely lit up and showed no numbers. When I opened it there were 3 ancient batteries leaking into the unit. Thankfully when I replaced them and cleaned everything up it seems to work OK, and it's a nice thermometer with a clear display. But they really need to manage old stock better - either sell them before the batteries expire, or ship them with batteries packed separately.

Good safety gadget. In use from March 2015.
Bought 21 March 2015, review written 26th June 2019. It stopped working after the first few months but the manufacturer replaced it (free of charge) and the replacement's worked perfectly ever since They advised me to dry it thoroughly after use (rather than, say, let it air-dry) which I now do without fail, especially the metal contacts underneath. Ducky gets used only twice a week nowadays, and I'd say it (i.e. the replacement) has lasted well. Once Ducky got mislaid - it had waddled off to get new batteries - and I missed the cheerful-looking "friendly" temperature gauge, and had to test the temperature with a finger and risk being scalded. It's a good safety gadget that I'd recommend.

Safe temperature bathing for babies
How cute is this little fella! We have a new baby on the way in the family and we all know how hard it is to dip your elbow in the bath water to get the right temperature. I ha e bought this because they are new parents and want to get things right and this little cutie will tell them the temperature of the water constantly so it’s not guesswork. It’s got a little screen to read the temp and it floats too. It’s battery compartment is securely screwed in place and the duck itself is a squashy rubber material to make it more like a child’s toy. I am so pleased I came across this, it’s a great unique gift

Good floating thermometer
Does only show temp in Fahrenheit, but was aware of this from the description. Good floating thermometer, easy to see colours/read & hoping baby can play with it too when a little older. Came with batteries in it & can be replaced. I like it!

Fantastic Product, simple, easy to use
I love this duck. It makes for a fun toy, so my 3 month old boy likes the bright color. Its simple and easy to use. Most thermometers have the temp indicator at the bottom so you have the take it out and check. The colors glow up nice and bright.
