Super Useful!
I love these things. I'm pretty noise sensitive and these are my go-to solution for blocking out noise. I usually use them for blocking out my noisy upstairs roommates when I'm trying to go to sleep. It was a truly beautiful moment when I first put these on. All that incessant giggling and hollering from upstairs was reduced to nothing (except the occasionally distant murmur of annoyance). I also use them for concerts. I love going to shows, but I have enough tinnitus and don't care to get more. These were all I needed to bring down the level to a very tolerable amount. Now, there are some small negatives with these. First, they are pretty tight. These will squish your head a little bit, and they're not the easiest to wear for extended periods of time. However, this is a necessary feature to achieve as much noise-cancelling as they do, so it's worth it. Another thing is that, if you also use these for concerts like I do, the music will sound very distant and that might ruin the vibe of the show for some people. It was an acceptable compromise for me, but I certainly feel less present and engaged at shows because of this.

Allows me to enjoy limited shooting again.
I have severe tinnitus and needed a muff with a huge noise reduction. This is the best I can come up with. I still wear earplugs with these and by doing that I am good for a bit of shooting. Now, a lot of sound actually comes through your skull bones and these will not reduce that, so I still limit and almost eliminated my shooting of the loud ones (like .357 mag or 30-06) but with the easier calibers like 22 or 25-20, .223, 250-3000, and old blackpowder rounds like 45-75, 50-70, and 45-70 these muffs with earplugs do the trick although I still limit the amount of shooting I do. Comfortable too, unlike another I tried with the same dB level of cancelling that felt like my head was in a vise! After trying these I actually bought a second pair in case these break, but after several years the original pair is still in use. I actually take them deer hunting too, with ear plugs in, when a shot presents itself I slip on these muffs. Yes I miss out on a few shots that way but if you have severe tinnitus like I do the bottom line is protecting the hearing I have left. They are big however, and the large ear portion will interfere with some stocks in certain position like prone. They also look goofy on me, as if I needed to look goofier, and I get snide comments at the range but at this point in my life I don't care. Pros: good noise reduction, comfortable especially compared to others with this level of reduction, seems to be long lasting. Cons: you will look like Mickey Mouse with them, may interfere with some stocks or shooting positions.

I can tell the difference!
I bought these for me and my mother. We live near the military base. The jets fly over my house once in a while. But sometimes 10 times a day. It's soooo loud!!! I don't understand why they need to fly over the residential areas while there is a vast area where nobody lives right next to us. Anyway, this product blocked...I would say 80% of the sonic boom. But I can still hear the very low sound. The high pitch voice (e.g. screaming voices of scary movies) from the TV downstairs was completely blocked. So, that's great. The headset covers both of my ears completely and it's comfortable. But I have a big head so if I leave it on my head for 10-20 minutes, it's getting uncomfortable. I put it on only when the jets fly over. That usually lasts for less than a minute. So, this headset is perfect for me.

Great for a shared office setting
I do software programming, and I use the X5As in a shared office setting. The X5A is the best passive noise cancelling earmuff I've ever tried, and I've tested a lot of brands. They work well when used alone. In addition, if you use them with Bose active noise cancelling earbuds underneath, or with regular foam earplugs underneath, you will have a true impenetrable cone of silence. Voices don't get through at all, nor do any other sounds, low or high frequency. Compared with using Bose active noise cancelling over-the-ear headphones in an office setting, these X5As block more noise when used alone (that is, when used with no earbuds or earplugs underneath). When used with earplugs underneath, the two solutions are comparable in how much noise they block. That said, these 3Ms are cheap and the Bose cost multiple hundreds of dollars. I also love that these don't need batteries or charging. In that sense, they're super convenient. They're always ready to go and there are no wires to worry about. A similar advantage is that they're inexpensive, so I bring them while traveling and don't worry about them getting lost or broken. I once left these in a taxi and didn't worry about it like I would expensive noise-cancellers; I just bought a new pair. Outside of an office setting, I also like to reduce noise when I'm on airplanes. For airplanes, active noise cancelling headphones like Bose with foam earplugs underneath are the best option. That said, I've gone on airplanes with these 3M X5A earmuffs, and they are decent -- better than no ear protection at all especially pretty quiet with foam earplugs underneath, even if they don't do as well as active noise cancelling headphones for the low frequency airplane engine rumble. I liked the X5A so much that I also bought the X4A model of this product. I sleep in the X4A sometimes when I want very deep sleep, because they're low profile and comfortable enough to sleep in, and they can be used more nights in a row than heavy duty foam earplugs without ear irritiation. Sometimes I also wear the lighter X4A model around my city apartment because they're not as heavy and bulky as the X5As but still do a pretty great job of noise blocking. Not as impenetrable as the X5A but still really good. All in all, this 3M earmuffs series is absolutely top of the line. I've ordered many of the cheaper and knock-off brands here on Amazon to compare them because I wanted the best product for use in my office and around my city apartment. I'm someone who concentrates better and is more productive when I don't have noise distractions. Hands down, the X5As are the best passive noise blockers of any earmuffs on the market, and the X4As are the best low profile and smaller noise blockers. There are a ton of knock off brands for passive earmuffs, usually made in China by a few relatively less known companies. Some examples are Clear Armour and DD. Those knock off brands are okay but in my opinion, they do not compare with the 3Ms which are the "OG" passive earmuffs. You can order them side-by-side to compare -- they're not too expensive -- but I already did that comparison so you don't have to and you can take the results of my research if you want. The only downside I will mention here is that any earmuffs -- 3M brand or others -- can make your ears sweat if you sleep in them or wear them for multi-hour stretches at work. I think that's inevitable with any earmuffs in this style because they work in part by creating a seal around your ears. It's not a vice-like seal; it's pretty gentle but a seal nonetheless. The way I handle the sweat issue for everyday office use is to switch the earmuffs occasionally with less sweaty noise cancelling options like the Bose noise cancelling earbuds, foam earplugs, or the Bose active noise cancelling over-the-ear headphones which make less of a tight seal because they don't have to. Because you do sweat in these, after extended use they will begin to get a little bit of an odor. The good news is that you can replace the foam padding, and as far as I know, these are the only comparable earmuffs that let you do that. Cleaning with a warm towel and some scented product also works pretty well. Lastly, you can tell by the photos that X5As look outrageously ridiculous. If the photos here are not enough, Google Bose X5A to see some more. These are not earmuffs to take selfies in. They are earmuffs when you have a good reason to wear them. For me, that reason is maximum productivity in my shared office, where a lot of people wear noise blockers of various types. All in all, I'm a huge fan of the X5As and X4As! Very glad they exist. These are a nicely engineered product.

Awesome performance- better than active noise canceling earbuds!!!
I was looking for a product that can help me focus better while working on my computer or reading books, articles, etc. at my home. The key application was usage inside my house. I was a bit apprehensive while ordering this model because the users rating for this model- X4A was only about 3.5 stars and there were only around 10 ratings, while some other models from 3M have more than 100 ratings, with average rating of 4.4 stars!!! However, I am pleasantly surprised after brief usage, after receiving it. Quick feedback: I got it just today evening and the first impression is that its performance is awesome!! It feels as if 90% of sound is blocked and it's better than what my active noise canceling solutions provide. It's weight appears tolerable to me; it's subjective thing but I am still mentioning this as I moved from ear buds. I got it for ~ Rs3300 and I feel that it's good value for money at this price. I am wondering as to why other users have given it such a low rating! My prior experience with noise canceling earphones: I used Bose QuietComfort 20 (wired earphones with active noise cancellation) for several years. Then I upgraded to a newer model- Bose QuietControl 30 (Bluetooth wireless), and have been using it for several years now. Last year, I got ear infection repeatedly in quick successions (within a week or two weeks) and doctor suggested to avoid earphones! So, I thought to search for some alternative solution, not involving ear buds. I was deliberating whether to go for active noise canceling headphones or something else. Then I found these ear muffs. I spent several hours to find the right brand, right model while I had flexible budget. I was looking for the most suitable solution. So, why did I choose model X4A over X3 or X5? X4A is sleeker than the other two models. X3 provides similar noise reduction and is cheaper by Rs1000 but it appears 'bulkier'. X5 specs are better than that of X4A for noise reduction, but: 1. X5 also appears bulkier than X4A, 2. X5 is about 100 g heavier than X4A. 3. I also suspected that grip of X5 over the head would be tighter which may make it difficult to use continuously for hours everyday. 4. X5 is costlier by about Rs 2000, though this was not the decision making criterion here. Potential key negative aspect of the product: It feels pretty tight on area around ears, after few hours of continuous use. I am not sure whether it would still be tolerable after few days of continuous use. I will update my feedback if it turns out to be too difficult to use on a daily basis, for several hours each day. Special Note on Combo of Active and Passive noise suppression: I was able to use my Bose wireless ear buds below these ear muffs without any difficulty! This provides even better isolation and also the ability to watch audio-visual content. Update on 22nd June, 21: Feedback after two and half weeks of use: 1. It has become much more easy to use- the sensation on and around the ears due to the pressure of pads has reduced significantly. 2. Isolation is very good. Floor cleaning robot is barely audible with these earmuffs on. 3. Picking up my pulse: I noticed that there was a repetitive sound. After a while I realised that it was my own pulse! The ear cups must be pressing against some artery around my ear and picking my pulse which I was able to hear due to absence of noise! 4. Tip to reduce uneasiness around ears: Push the earlobes inside the rim of ear cups with your finger, this allows you to move the cups slightly up. This creates more space for the upper parts of the ears which now may not be in direct contact of the cups. This significantly reduces the sensation of unease caused by long and continuous use of earmuffs. 5. Caution/safety concern: Be aware that you may miss listening to your family member who is shouting for help in an emergency situation in another part of your house! Suggestions: 1. Make some alternate arrangement to be able to draw the attention of the wearer of these earmuffs, like some strong electronic buzzer which can be triggered by using a remote control. 2. Keeping your mobile phone in your visual range may help, so that you don't miss an incoming call in an emergency.

Good product to combat traffic noise on Indian roads
Well worth the price, it is not heavy or too tight on the head. Doesn't completely block all the noise but makes things quite bearable. If you are new to Indian traffic then these 3M ear muffs are worth a try.

It’s cheap plastic. Should be worth 200. They know it so doesn’t allow return
It’s awfully bad. It’s a fraud. They know it and hence don’t allow return. Don’t even think about buying it
