UPDATE MAY 2019 - 5 STARS THIS TIME
UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. That could be a record. It’s had a rough life, but everything works, even though I neglected emptying it out after every use and it fell over hundreds of times. It still works just fine. So why buy a new one? Well, when I read the features of this new one, I was drawn. Let’s face it, I was sold. Why? Simply put (pardon the pun): 1 - It really stands up by itself. Really and truly. No overbalancing to make it fall over and trip up the user, as the old one does. 2 - Disconnecting the bottom dust cup for emptying is easier, as the button works well, and it is easy to click back on, unlike the old one, which tends to fight you. 3 - The power of this unit is shocking on the first use. It is indeed powerful. To me, it felt a bit like the kick of the first gun you ever fired. Hang onto it. My cat hates it, because it makes a lot more noise than the old one. I guess she’ll get used to it. 4 - The suction picks up nearly everything it gets near, so be warned. (Paper Towel: now you see it, now you don't.) There's no going over and over a spot, making the task take too long, as the old one does. 5 - Removing the rod, to use as a hand-held, is not a life and death battle. The snap button works like a dream, and you don’t lose all kinds of time fighting with it, as with the old one. 6 - It doesn't have a terrible odor wafting off during operation, only as you'd expect from an electric motor. Not overpowering. Those are good selling points for a reasonably priced, well designed cheap vacuum. Just a few sore spots: 1 - It does make lots of noise. You can’t use it while anyone is sleeping. Trust me. 2 - The motor gets sorta hot in continuous use. Short breaks help. The strength of the motor would seem to be the likely reason. No smoke noticed yet. 3 - As others have said, the crevice tool, although it works very well, just won’t stay where the manufacturer planned for it to be kept. It falls. And falls. If anyone has come up with a way to keep it snapped onto the rod, please - PLEASE let me know. If I should think of something, I will try to pass on the idea here. Hmmm, maybe heavy duty velcro? Worth a shot. Pending..... OK, that’s it. Good little appliance. I like it a lot. And it didn’t break the bank. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx have a Eureka that I bought in 2011 that is still kicking. That makes it almost 6 years old. The crevice tool; is cracked and patched with duck tape. The top and bottom sections are held together by duck tape because the little snap thing wore out. It's noisier than the Dirt Devil. It's also heavier. But it works. Say no more. UPDATE MAY 2019: OK, the Eureka is history and I bought yet another Simpli Stik in May of 2016, which is still running. Three years. You can't go wrong with this vacuum!
PROS: Lightweight, great suction for an unbeatable deal Cons: Short electrical cord As a mother with a young toddler who can be a messy eater. I feel that this light-weight vacuum cleaner has saved my sanity. I keep this Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner in my dining room and kitchen area of our house. Like most mothers, you feel that your house can never stay clean no matter how often you pick up. Personally, I feel that sweeping takes too much time and I am always left with crumbs that were either missed or not able to be swept up by a simple dust pan. I believe that the Dirt Devil Vacuum Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaner Simpli-Stik Lightweight Bagless Corded Stick and Handheld Vacuum has saved me plenty of time and energy to allow me to focus on other things! CONVIENCE: In today’s time, most people enjoy convinces of things in life. Personally, I think that this Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner is very convenient to the fact which all I need to do is plug this item in to an outlet and begin to vacuum up messes. My son drops a lot of food while eating so having this quick pick up really helps keep our day going. I know that some may say that the standard broom does the same job and I thought that too at first, but once I first used this vacuum it was less of a hassle to clean up the messes on the floor. This is not used for liquids, just crumbs. I was surprised to see that it would suction even larger items such as a normal vacuum cleaner would. I enjoy not having to try and wiggle out the crumbs that fall under the ledge of the cabinets on the floor. This vacuum quickly sucks it right up with no hassle. ATTACHMENTS: The one thing I knew with purchasing this vacuum cleaner was that I would not be using this to clean my carpets, but simply the small messes in the kitchen and dining room. If you are looking to have a vacuum for carpet, this is not the vacuum you would want. If you are looking for easy, quick pickups then this is a great product! This vacuum has a couple different features. It can be used as an upright vacuum, a handheld vacuum, and it also has a smaller attachment for tight to reach placed. This is a simple vacuum that gets the job done without the bells and whistles. I feel that having the upright position is great for vacuuming floors. But, if you want to vacuum out your car or even the couch the handheld option is perfect! The smaller attachment is great for getting in between the pockets of your couch. My one complaint with the features is that converting upright to handheld, you must take off the wheel portion of the vacuum. I find it can be difficult at times to remove that part. Other than that, I am very satisfied. CORD: Since I purchased to use this vacuum in my kitchen and dining room area, I am now realizing that the cord could be longer. The cord is 16ft, but even though my kitchen and dining room are in the same room, it still does not reach all sides. I would not say this is a deal breaker for me, but it can be a downfall I see with this vacuum. If you are within reach for the rooms you are looking to vacuum for, then it should not be an issue. FILTER: I LOVE that this vacuum is bag less! I have had the older, bulky vacuums that require bags and it is just costly to keep replacing them. I enjoy that the filter can be either cleaned or replaced. The replacements I have seen cost less than $8.00. I have had this vacuum for 11 months and have never had to replace the filter yet. The quick release of a push of a button and you can empty your filter. As this is a lightweight vacuum that can clean small rooms, if you are looking for a vacuum to clean your entire house, this is not for you. This Dirt Devil vacuum is great for needing to clean specific rooms or items. LIGHTWEIGHT: My experience with vacuums are that they can be bulky and heavy. This is not the case with the Dirt Devil vacuum. This vacuum is only 3.8lbs. Its small enough to just fit in the corner of the room with not taking any space. I love that I can easily take this vacuum without feeling hassled by the weight of this item. PRICE: I was blown away when I started using this vacuum because of how much I paid for it. For the great suction, being lightweight, having beneficial features I am simply blown away that it does not cost more! I have been using this vacuum daily, sometimes multiple times a day for just under a year and it still works just as good as the first day I purchased it. This is truly I feel the best vacuum you could get for such an amazing price!

If you have floors you need this...and only this
After a nauseating foray through all the new and expensive vacuums and dust busters, I came across a Dirt Devil hand vac in an old storage shed - where it had been sitting for YEARS. It worked so great that I went looking for Dirt Devil when I got home, since I only have floors and no carpet. I love it, it's light, versatile - you can use it for the floors and then pull off the floor attachment and do the baseboards etc and use it as a hand vac, also super easy to clean. One issue it does have - because it's so light, is that it falls over easily with the slightest bump, I left it out because I used it so often and after one too many falls the little latch broke.

Great for daily use to get rid of pet hair.
Suction power is ok...it does the job I want to remove fluffy pet hair daily. Good for hardwood floors and stairs. Light weight and easy to use.
