Works great for removing anode rod from a water heater
I bought this to remove the anode rod from my water heater, so I could replace it. It fit in the narrow opening in the top of my water heater, to get to the head of the anode rod. It seems well constructed, and works fine with my Dewalt cordless impact gun (300 ft lbs). I needed all of that power to remove this rod.

6 sided sockets don't slip
Used this with a breaker bar, to easily remove the anode in a 16 year old hot water heater. (Tip: turn off the water, drain just a little water from the heater so there is still a lot of weight to hold it down, so you don't spin the whole heater with this powerful tool.).

Great socket but cannot defeat Rheem greed.
There's nothing the matter with this socket. This is the third socket I purchased in an attempt to get one that will fit onto a rheem hot water heater anode rod bolt so that I can replace it. I've tried one and one sixteenth, I've tried 26 mm and 27 mm, I've tried short sockets and deep sockets, nothing seems to grip the bolt of the anode rod. With my rheem water heater the bolt to loosen the anode rod is recessed about an inch. Some sockets the outer diameter is too large to slide into the recessed area. This dewal t definitely is great in two areas it's outer diameter is narrow enough to fit into the recessed area and it's an impact socket so it can withstand the stress if I have to use an impact wrench, and it's a deep socket although I don't think the anode rod is recessed so much that you even need a deep socket. The only thing that comes to my mind is the great lengths rheem will go to to force consumers to call a rheem repairman for something as simple as unscrewing and screwing in a new anode rod. There's no reason on Earth why they had to make the outer diameter of the recessed area so narrow that a standard socket everybody has in the garage wouldn't fit. There is no reason in the world why they even had to recess the anode rod bolt. Neither the cold water intake or the hot water out are recessed so why did they go to such lengths to make such a difficult recess on the anode rod?

Thin-wall and just fit, works like a charm!
Thin-wall with only 1.44" (36.5mm) outside diameter, just enough to fit in my water heater recessed anode rod hole. “Regular" impact socket is just ~0.05" too wide to fit in. Save my day, finally used an impact wrench to loosen the stuck anode rod.

I fought the heater and the heater won...
Like many other reviews I purchased this socket to tackle a water heater anode change. Socket fits the anode perfectly, and deep enough to clear the insulation on the tank. I'll admit that I don;t have the greatest impact wrench but that anode wouldn't budge with either a Ryobi battery powered or an old 110 outlet powered impact. Strapped the tank in place and tried a breaker bar with a long pipe, still wouldn't budge. I'm giving up on the task before I damage the tank trying to remove the spent anode. I'd rather get a few more years out of this heater with the spent anode, than break it trying to install the new one. Next water heater I will be loosening the anode before installing so the socket will prove its worth eventually. (I'm also a hobby mechanic, so might need it at any time.)

I was finally able to remove my water heater anode!
I've had issues with a water heater in a previous house and I didn't want to go through the hassle again in the new house, so I did some "preventative maintenance". In addition to the heating elements, I also wanted to replace the anode. When my socket wrench method failed, I did some research and found that impact wrenches were highly recommended. I knew my battery powered Makita didn't have the right socket adapter so I ordered a set to fit this socket. I believe I tried the combo the same day it arrived... The first few attempts were disheartening because the old anode rod didn't seem to budge at all. I took a short break and just kept trying to loosen the bolt with 5-second intervals and eventually it started moving! I was so happy! There was no signs of wear on either the socket or the adapter. This thing saved me a lot of money because I did not have to call someone (or fix things that other methods might have broken).
