No more "dusk to dawn"

After installing these outdoor lights, we installed low watt bulbs & run them 24 hours. We used to have lights that were motion activated that we liked, but mistakenly replaced them with motion detector lights with the useless & annoying "dusk to dawn" feature. Those lights kept going from bright to dim, setting off our security cameras hundreds of times every 24 hours. We tried to find motion activated lights, but it appears those are no longer available without the annoying & useless "dusk to dawn" feature.

Glad I bought it

This is a nice looking light for my front porch. It definitely makes my house look a little more updated. It was easy to install. I like the fact that it will be easy to replace the bulb when necessary. I can just reach right up into the fixture. I purchased an amber colored motion sensor bulb for the fixture. That way it will not attract as many bugs at night. So far, so good.

nice lights get different screws

We recently replaced our house siding and I didn't want to put the 4 old lights (2 at front door & 2 at garage) back on the new siding. Lights are expensive at Lowes and HD like $60-$100 each and I really didn't need anything fancy. These were perfect! Plus I wanted the opening at the bottom to stop the bug collection and make bulb change easy. I read the online reviews about the screws being too long but since I do have a hacksaw, figured if needed I could just saw them off. They arrived quick and well packaged, but the reviews were correct. The screws (with the black end caps) were way too long and much too tough for me to hacksaw them off. So off to Lowes to get the recommended #6 32 x 3/4" machine screws (less than $2 for package of 12). Now that the lights are up, they look great and I love them. If you decided to order these lights, save yourself some time and just get the screws before they ever arrive. You will be glad you did.

The quality is good but not great but for the price it really ...

I installed these on all my outside walls. The quality is good but not great but for the price it really can't be beat. They were significantly cheaper than most comparable lanterns I researched. One caveat. I had to go to Home Depot to buy replacement screws for the ones that attach the lantern itself to the support bracket. They were almost half an inch too long even with me adjusting them as recessed as possible. I think it's because it's a double spinner type bracket where the back portion attached to the electrical box and the front portion attaches and holds the lantern in place. In my case the back bracket is horizontal just like the front bracket needs to be. That means there is very little room to adjust the length of the lantern holding screws because they very soon come up against the other bracket. If, on the other hand, my back bracket had been vertical, I would have had plenty of room to adjust the screws as needed. This may not make sense now but probably will once you get the product and start the install. Anyway, It wasn't really a big deal as the screws were like .89 cents a package and worked just fine once I got them home. You have to fiddle with getting the length just right even with the correct length screws but once I powered through the first install, the other four went like clockwork with no issues whatsoever. Just thought I'd mention that so as you don't go crazy wondering if you're doing something wrong.

AMAZING quality, low price

Ordered it; got it quickly. Pleasantly surprised with the quality: Solid, heavy gauge metal, but not too heavy. Looks just as beautiful as it does on the picture. Not much else to say -- the installation is about the same as that for any external wall fixture. If you're attaching it to vinyl siding (which is the most common scenario in my opinion), you will need these two items: * Arlington 8141-1 Vertical Siding Lamp Mounting Kit (check your siding offset first; This one is 1/2") * Arlington 8100LP-1 MEGA Siding Plate (goes right over the previous item) You need the above two items (especially the 8141 or something similar) for a code-compliant installation, especially if there is not a proper junction box in your wall to attach the base of the lantern to. Do NOT attach it directly to the wall with nothing behind it (e.g. if you have a piece of Romex wire simply sticking out of a hole in the wall) -- that's a violation of the National Electrical Code, and is unsafe. Using the Arlington 8141 or something similar should be an adequate substitute for a junction box (check with a local inspector or an electrician first though, as this may vary from one jurisdiction to another). Advice: After attaching the mounting bracket to the wall (or, to be exact, to the junction box or a siding adapter), firmly attach the bare grounding wire to the grounding screw on the bracket first; that way it has something to dangle on while you are connecting the white and the black wires.

Surprising quality for the price!!!

Didn't expect much for the price paid, but this lantern is truly very nice. It's not perfect (the tip is bit "off" from vertical), but you cannot tell unless you specifically look for it. Really amazing value. Combined with a motion sensing bulb, works really well and looks totally sharp. Very nice clean and uniform black finish. Well packaged. Simple to install. What else could one ask for. Highly recommended.
