Tricky installation, poor fit in the sink drain

This drain has the feel of quality and good materials but it was difficult to install. The drain is very flat whereas the sink's drain section has a little curve to it, so it was hard to get it to set in properly, took a good amount of plumber's putty (which is what Delta advised to use). Some other grid drains I looked at are in one piece and you can put the whole thing in from the top, but with this one they are separate and you must screw the flange and drain pipe together through the sink. This is difficult, the upper flange piece being a very short section and difficult to get a good hold on while you are trying to screw the lower section up into it. I finally wrapped some small needle-nose pliers with padding and put them through the holes and that worked well to keep the flange from spinning. It was also difficult to tighten the nut underneath the sink without the drain wanting to cock off to one side since the flange didn't fit into the sink drain very well. Finally, the rubber washer did not seal well against the bottom of my sink so I had to use plumber's putty, which I'm not happy about. I did finally get it installed without leaks, though, and I do like it now that it's installed. But I have to say, the old drain I took out was a much better fit both in the sink and below it and never had any problems with leaking. I'm not sure I really trust this one yet.
