Easy way to upgrade shower fixtures
I'm a fairly handy guy and found that this was an easy upgrade to the previous all white shower fixtures. They are lighter weight than the original design and I would have preferred a bushed nickel but this was soooo much better than the old white fixtures I had. I didn't end up needing all the parts as this kit is intended to replace several different old designs. Note that this kit does not include a bathtub stopper nor a bathtub overflow. This kit does include the shower head and stem pipe as well as the water valve. I feel foolish but it took me several minute to realize the trim piece that goes on the shower head pipe had a opaque protective film on it. I thought they had sent me the wrong color (silly me). Once I removed the protective cover it matched everything else.

Do yourself a favor, check the parts are correct first.
Delta sent the wrong cartridge in the kit. In the product photos, the cartridge has a white cap. This one was dark grey. Also the valve plate o rings would not fit no matter what. So I ended up using the old o rings. Tried to put the cartridge in and ran into an another problem that the valve sleeve has one notch. The cartridge has two. Even the exploded schematic on the paperwork included with the kit shows one notch. I contacted Delta and they confirmed the cartridge was incorrect and offered to ship me the correct one. We have a single full bath and can’t be with out the shower for days while a the correct part slowly makes it’s way here. So now I gotta go fork out $$$ at the big box store for the correct cartridge with not even an offer of a partial refund from Delta. Update #1: The big box store was out of stock on the correct cartridge. So Delta is shipping me the correct one no charge. We just have to drive 20-30 minutes each way to a family members house to shower until it gets here. Update #2: I added a star because Delta came thru and sent the right cartridge. It’s the white/translucent one in my pics. It has a single notch and fits in the valve body perfectly. It also came with the proper o-rings. But over all the quality of this kit doesn’t compare to the original. The hot/cold control is sloppy and has a lot of play because it snaps on to the actual control piece. Unlike the old one where the adjustment lever and control were all one piece. Makes it hard to fine tune the temp. Lots more plastic in this kit. The water volume lever/collar kind of grinds against valve cover/bonnet as you increase or decrease water flow. And the included shower head? It’s a joke. It looks like it should have so many more jets of water with all those nozzles on that huge dumbbell looking thing. Nope. Almost all of the nozzles are decorative. And it leaks. No washer was included for it so I thought the screen/restrictor in it was supposed to do the job. Nope it leaked. I took it off and repurposed one of the o rings from the wrong cartridge and used fresh plumbers tape. Still leaks…but less. I guess it will last….hopefully….until we remodel the bathroom in a year or two.

Excellent Kit - Great Value
The kit had all components needed and more. While many of the components felt cheaper than the 1500 series I was replacing, I still think the kit is a great value. My experience with any plumbing projects is extremely limited, but the entire conversion from Delta 1500 to 1700 series took me about an hour. I'd suggest finding a video, maybe two on Youtube to help guide installation.

Updated my old Delta 1500 unit.
Both bathrooms have been dripping for a while now. I installed the old ones way back in 1992 when I built my house and they were the old style Delta 1500 series. I had been dreading replacing them because the 1500 series was replaced by the 1700 series. and the last thing that I wanted was to get into a big project and to find out the parts did not fit. Online searches were about 50/50 as to if these would work. Everything fit right up and worked great except for the Escutcheon plates, this are the big round plate behind the valve. The 1500 series has two mounting holes on the bottom at 5 and 7 o'clock. The newer ones are on a diagonal at 8 and 2 o'clock and do not fit the old valve. The old plates a NLA, I got lucky and with some auto chrome polish and auto wax, my old ones came back to life and look like new. Easy to install, many online videos. One thing to watch out for is to only tighten the outer temperature valve up until the handle is not wobbly and no more. I did both bathrooms and leaks are gone. Jeff
