Log Lighter

Good product but some things to consider.
Turns out I didn't need the one that could be mounted straight or angled. But since I had purchased it I had to move the plug. Nowhere in the description or on the manufacturer's website did it say the size of the hex key I needed to remove the plug. Turns out a friend of mine owns a machine shop and he had the right size to remove the plug. The description needs this added or else buyer's would have to figure this out themselves. Other than that the product works well..just make sure you open the mixing chamber cover to get the right color flame. Totally closed the flame is orange. I had to open mine about 3/4 to get the proper burning flame. Also, DON'T install with the burner holes facing up. A friend of mine helped me with the install and he was in hurry and installed the pipe with the holes facing virtually straight up. After about two or three fires several of the holes were already clogged with ash. I had to dissemble everything and reattach with the holes pointing not quite straight down. This should hopefully alleviate the chance of ashes clogging up the burner holes.

I received this yesterday, got the parts from Menards to get it hooked up and fired it up. So far, seems to work great (didn't actually start a fire with it, just turned on the gas and lit it). The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the packaging - I was clearly not the first owner, and the entire set of instructions was missing. Fortunately Dante's website had instructions I could download. Aside from that, the item appeared new, it's incredibly heavy-duty, and frankly I'm excited to try it for real later today. I received the 20" model, and I wish I'd paid more attention to that. My fireplace is, at its widest in front, 24", and I wish I'd gotten an 18" or 17" model. My fault for not looking at the description more carefully. All in all I'd recommend this.

It was pretty straight-forward for installation
I have been using this log-lighter in my fireplace for about 4 months now without any issues. It was pretty straight-forward for installation: • Put some thread sealant on the threads • Screw the log lighter on to the mixer • Screw the mixer onto the gas line/pipe in the fireplace • Adjust the mixer opening for correct flame color What else can I say? Humans have been using fire for millennia - this makes better fire? Sure! Once mixture is setup you get a nice blue flame and them logs are toast. Literally.

Why did I wait so long to get this... 10yrs and 30 minutes.
My poor fireplace went over a decade with a gas end cap. Installed this in less than 30 minutes (I prefer being careful when working with flammable gasses). Used gas pipe tape (yellow case, not blue/red packaging- for heat, not water). Installed straight (not angle) - no gas leaks, quite easy... as long as you can turn the original gas end cap. I used a some locking pliers..worked first try. Some good advice: make sure the holes face at a down-angle... as you might be tempted to point UP, but gravity will not be your friend here... ash will fall and clog the holes. Google is great, eh? And again, 5-star product.

Nice product. I have a large fireplace that has a T to provide more gas jets. I tried to use this on one side only and found the pipe is restricted prior to the air port. I am sure this is to improve performance but keeps me from using it on one side only as the other, shorter pipe gets too much gas

Easy to install.
Product came in on time, and screwed into existing piping just fine. Only thing we had to buy was the sealant that goes between the pipes where they screw together. We have a tight corner fireplace that required taking an extra piece out to fit into the space and screw it together in 2 places, but not at all hard. You don't need any special know how to install. Just a little common sense. I would recommend 2 people; one to hold the wrench and one to turn the other one.

It looks great.
Only reason for 3 stars is that this unit had a casting problem. The gas chamber was not drilled thus making it not function. After drilling it my self the unit worked as intended. There is really nothing to this. Its just a pipe.

There are heavier gauge materials out there but this is fine for my use.
This was a replacement for my existing log lighter that burnt up/melted down after many years of use. It was easy to install and everything fit perfectly.
