Very Nice

Bought this spoon in 2015 and have used it hundreds of times since. The green handle has a small hole and the spoon part has a springy tab that lock into the hole for open and closed positions. Very sturdy. The green handle has a slot on the bottom side that can get loaded up with food. After eating, I fill my cook pot with very hot soapy water, take the spoon apart and drop it in the soapy water and let it sit for an hour. Later, just rinse and dry and it's ready to go again. If I could change one thing it would be the depth of the spoon bowl as it seems a little shallow. When eating soup or gravy you have to dip a lot because the bowl doesn't hold as much as I wish it did. Hey Optimus! Make another version of this spoon with a deeper bowl. Do that and I'll buy 5 of them right now. BTW, this is the only reliable collapsible spoon out there as I've purchased all of the others and they all fail.

Exactly What I Wanted

I go backpacking and have been using a Light My Fire spork to eat out of those freeze-dried pouches. The spork has a spoon on one end and a fork on the other end. It was just barely long enough to reach the bottom of the pouch and I had to hold it by the very tip of the end of the fork side of the spork. What a pain! I also don't want a long spoon which takes up too much space and is hard to store in my pack but I wanted a long spoon to more easily reach the bottom of these freeze-dried meal pouches. This is perfect! I make it short for storage or eating oatmeal out of a bowl but extends when I need to eat out of a pouch. It's very light too, weighing less than 3/4 ounce. My wife found a use for this Optimus spoon for car camping too. We have a GSI French coffee press and this spoon easily reaches the bottom to stir the coffee.

Almost perfect

The round bowl end fits right in your pie hole. Collapsing it is a big advantage over other long spoons. However, I think it would be better if it extended out another inch or two. Still, I didn't go hungry.

Good length and sturdiness.

I can't really rate it until I use it which is still months away. However, I like the length and sturdiness of the spoon and the fact that it collapses. The other thing I like is that it isn't a spork.

Strong and rugged, not flimsy, should stand up to trail life. Extending portion good to poke into those deep pockets of food in either freezer bag or rehydrating cooking styles. I also like the extension when I'm simmering in the pot, gets my hand further away from the heat. Spoon bowl is a bit of a weird shape, too oblong in my estimate. Otherwise a good tool.

Performs as advertised.

It's a spoon and it slides. No more sticky knuckles from eating out of a freeze-dried dinner pouch. It comes apart with the press of a button for easy cleaning.

Not a cooking utensil

Maybe a good solution for some specific backpacking requirements, I think it would hold up to eating from a bag of freeze dried food. I used it to stir food in a pot while cooking though, and the spoon deformed a little. Also, clean it right after you use it. Overall I think the design is weak, more of a gimmick.

Long for the Bag; short for the pack...A Winner

Bought this for coffee scooping out of a 1lb bag when traveling. It works as expected. Extend for long reach into the bag and retract for storage. It uses a positive lock and press to release. So far no issues on not staying extended.
