Fit is off

The small was super loose around my torso (even on the tightest clips) and there are these weird gaps on the side (that make no sense) which make the looseness appear even worse. I checked and it did indicate small but the circumference seemed closer to a medium/large. Bummed as I really liked the design and material but no way to make it fit better.
