A winner so far

I bought these fixtures for three reasons. First, they are by Halo, and my review of the reviews on this site indicates that Halo may use better-quality components than many others. Second, they can replace old or burned-out fixtures in cans that have clips for springs AND in cans that do not have those clips. Third, a few of these fixtures have been available on Amazon Warehouse at a significant savings, and I have had good luck with that source. When the first of these arrived, I needed to install it into a can that does not have clips for springs, so I started by removing the two screws that mount the springs to the fixture--the screws are tight, as they should be. Next, three blade-type springs are provided in a pouch, and I installed them into the slots on the three pivoting metal pieces riveted to the back of the fixture, The blades lock in place so they won't fall out, but you have to push them in far enough to click, and I couldn't get them all the way into the slots by hand, so I had to use pliers. Next, the plug and wire that connected the removed fixture to the screw-in socket in the can was still in place, and its plug fit the new fixture. The fixture tested good, so I finished byrotating the blade springs all the way out and pushing the fixture up into the can: it went all the way up without difficulty. As for later removal, when the fixture is twisted, the blades pivot inward and release their grip on the can, allowing the fixture to drop out. So far, this is a winner at a great price. I haven't yet tried this fixture on my cans that uses springs. And I can say nothing about this fixture's electrical durability nor its ability to dim, as it's new and not on a dimmer circuit.

Great quality LED's

Found these from an amazon seller for $8 less each than the local lighting supply store where they were recommended to me. (Locally they were $42 each and I got them for $34 here.) These particular ones are 3000K (color temperature) and fully dimmable. Additionally, they have a CRI of 92. Be VERY careful and make sure you get the correct item number if you order these. I suggest you check the Cooper Lighting website for the exact combination of color temperature and CRI that fits your needs/desires. I was told these are far superior to what you typically find in the big box stores. They were easy to install. I had Cooper Halo 6 inch cans and they fit in perfectly. I put 8 of them in my new kitchen. The color is not nearly as warm as incandescent bulbs. If you want that warm glow, you should go with 2700K. However, these are not as harsh as fluorescent bulbs. They are just white enough and make the colors of the room pop. Make sure you get a compatible dimmer, as these are bright. I got a Lutron dimmer from their Skylark line. It's listed as compatible with these lights and works great. I would not want these without a dimmer and tend to keep them at about 50-70% power. Some people complain about a "hum" with some LED lights and dimmers. I can tell you that in complete silence, mine have a very slight hum. However, in a kitchen, with a refrigerator running in the background you'll never notice it. I'm not an electrician, so it's unclear if this is caused by the lights or the dimmer. With that being said, I probably would not install this particular combination in my dining room or living room where I would notice the noise and prefer a warmer tone to the light. But for a kitchen and hallway, they rock!

Brighter than I expected

I finally got to install this light fixture. It was pretty easy to install in my shower stall. The adapter simply screws in, and you attach the pigtail to the main unit. Two issues: It did not retract all the way to the ceiling. It sits with about a1/8" gap from the ceiling. I'm not concerned because the shower does not steam up and the unit is rated for damp environment, so this is purely cosmetic. Secondly, the halo ring is a slightly smaller diameter from the original fixture, maybe 1/4" smaller. This allows a discolored area of the painted ceiling to show. Again, this is a cosmetic issue for me. The good news, This is a noticeably brighter light than the 60W incandescent bulb I had in there... brighter by about 33%. I can now see I need to scrub the tile better. I have been using the light for over a week now with no problems. If you're looking for a direct, easy replacement for an incandescent fixture, I recommend this one. HALO is a good brand, I have used their stuff before, and this is a great unit.

Good Product

Not as easy to install - requires little hands and dexterous fingers to get it installed correctly. One thing that bothers me is that they don't last long. have had to replace two lights in the kitchen ceiling after only a year of use.

Simple and bright

I've replaced most of our old recessed-can fixtures with one-piece LED lights like this. I found out during the remodels that some of our recessed lights had a tall can, and others had a shallow can. I also bought some CREE fixtures similar to this one, but those only worked in the tall cans; this Halo brand works in both tall and shallow cans. Installation is dead simple: screw the adapter cable into the existing bulb socket (the adapter cable is included, although the website photo doesn’t explicitly show it here), clip the orange connectors together, bend the metal arms together, push up into the can, and release. The metal arms spring apart and the tension holds the fixture in position tightly. I like the clean look of the sealed light, and it is very very bright. Too bright for some locations, I think, but that's just personal preference. The CREE brand of these lights offers an optional black trim ring which reduces the glare somewhat, but I haven't yet found a similar item to fit this brand.

Easy to Install

Trim ring is not included as advertised.

Was disappointed with the lights as advertise the trim ring was included and was not in the box. On the instruction Manuel said order separate. Very misleading.
