IT MEASURES THE TEMPRATURE OF LIQUID
I've used it 3 times now and it does what it's supposed to do.

Decent milk thermometer on a budget, just stop steaming 5-10 degrees before your desired temp.
I purchased the Cooper-Atkins Bi-Metals Espresso Milk thermometer for (you guessed it) use when steaming milk. My one major gripe with it, is that the thermometer shaft is just a little bit too long for my steaming pitcher. The pitcher is about the standard size milk pitcher, so I'm blaming the design of the thermometer, for the fact that I have to stick it in a bit tilted in order to use it. This does not harm the process at all... I'm still able to steam my milk to the proper temperatures using this. I also notice a slight time delay in it's registering of temperatures. You're only really supposed to steam almond or coconut milk to about 130 degrees, and if I watch the gauge until it reaches 130, and then stop, moments later the heat reads closer to 140 degrees. I've worked around this by steaming 5-10 degrees less than the temperature I am trying to reach, and it seems to work well enough. Hope this helps someone!

Thermometer works well overall but can be hard to read!
It is definitely great to have a thermometer when making lattes… But the face on the temperature gage is a little bit small to read easily. It has an arm on it to hook onto the cup but I find that the arm doesn’t work well in most of the espresso cups I am using. It is a good general thermometer but it just barely makes it acceptable to use just because the face is so small.

Love it!
After researching the many thermometers out there for steaming milk, I decided on this one. I am totally happy with it. It is on the small side which I love because it doesn't get in the way of my view of the milk when steaming. It is a quick visual to stop steaming at the exact temperature every time for perfect results. The clip easily slides on and off of my steaming pitcher. Easy to clean with a quick rinse and then it's ready to go for your next cup. Absolutely love it!

for the price.. not bad
Deadly accurate. If the whole shaft is inside the milk. Otherwise you get some inconsistent temperature readings. I used this a few times just to compare what it feels like to my hand. After that I ended up using it as a vent temperature gauge in the automotive field. Which actually works quite well. And since theres no different mediums contacting the different parts of the shaft (only air coming out of the vents) the readings are dead on. Reaction time to the gauge is pretty good. Not being digital, obviously there is a few seconds delay when switching from something hot to cold, but it isnt something to complain about when it only cost about 14 bucks.

Love that the clip with attaches to the wall of ...
This works really well. Love that the clip with attaches to the wall of the frothing pitcher is adjustable. You slide it up and down to get the tip of the stem as deep into the milk as you like and it holds very well, doesn't slip around or fall into the pitcher. You can spin the dial around to the angle you prefer so you can see clearly what the temperature is and everything holds nice and tight.

Fantastic thermometer for frothing!
The temperature gauge is not instant-read, but beyond that it appears to be accurate. I stop steaming about 10 degrees lower than my desired temperature to get the perfect 155-165 degree zone. As other people mentioned, I checked the calibration of the unit with ice water and it does properly read 32 degrees F. I like that the calibration can be adjusted. Further, the thermometer is not too tall and fits perfectly in my 16oz frother.

Good for steaming milk
It works pretty well. Definitely 4 stars for the price and does what I need it to for steaming milk. It's a little slow on catching up on the temp otherwise it would be 5 stars

Wouldn't recommend..especially for milk steaming
Terrible thermometer, huge delay in temp reading (6-11 degrees). I threw it out..
