Mostly clear ice, but misshapen spheres
It actually makes (mostly) clear ice. The problem is filling it can be tricky (no clear instructions) and the silicon portion starts to push apart as it's freezing (making misshapen spheres and causing part of the sphere to frost up -not quite clear). But overall it's better than trying DIY methods for clear ice. Edit: while they frost up slightly, once in a beverage they clear up. They still start misshapen because the silicon pushes up as the freeze, but they make really clear ice

Works, but not without problems
I think this design would work well but it seems that the insulated reservoir is not quite tall enough to reliably produce crystal clear spheres. Maybe another inch or so from the bottom of the mold to the bottom of the reservoir would do it but so far my spheres have come out with the bottoms being slightly cloudy while the top 3/4 or so are crystal clear. Not a horrible design but could use some improvement. The 5qt ice chest method produces flawlessly clear ice 1.5 to 2 or so inches thick, just not spherical and the metal ice presses to form spherical ice are just too pricey for my use. I'll probably stick to my ice chest method for perfectly clear ice. You can see in the attached photo the bubbles and impurities near the top of the sphere. This is the 4th batch of spheres I’ve made with this mold.

Nice ice, tough to use.
The ice comes out fairly clear. But the process of filling the mold is somewhat difficult, and removing the ice spheres from the mold is laborious and wasteful. There is more ice in the bottom of the mold than in the spheres. I’ve learned that cracking that ice into chunks frees the spheres from their death grip. But...

White residue from ice cubes and smelly silicone that won't go away
I was really excited about this ice cube tray when we first got it because a) it was the right size at 2" and b) it had a lid that stays on securely. This tray makes ice cubes that are 2" wide, which fit my rocks glasses. (Most other large ice cube trays I found are 2 1/4" which are too big for my glasses.) I also loved that the lid snaps in securely to prevent spillage, compared to the W&P Peak tray where the lid just (almost uselessly) rests on top and doesn't provide any protection against spillage. But after using this for a few weeks I need to return it for the following reasons: - First, the ice cubes are surprisingly hard to remove, considering the 4 compartments are separated. You need to stretch out the silicone so much that it turns white (see pic). This wasn't a deal breaker for us, but definitely not ideal. - Second, my husband noticed a smell from the silicone that makes us think this is not food grade silicone. We sniffed some other silicone products at home (lids, other ice cube trays) to confirm that this is the only one that smelled. We washed the tray vigorously a few times and the smell was still there. - The biggest reason we're returning this is the white film-y residue that comes off the ice. (See pic I posted of a glass of water with an ice cube made using this tray after sitting on the counter for 10 mins.) We thought it was just because the product was new and the residue would go away after a few washes. But again, even after washing the tray vigorously a few times the residue is still there. Not only is this unsightly (I would never serve anyone cocktails with floaties in it), it can't be great for our health (who knows what we've been ingesting with our cocktails). In short, I cannot recommend this product.

Nearly Ideal results on first try
I've been trying to create the "ice balls" that are popular right now. The Rabbit Clear Ice Sphere Mold Tray is a large kit that has no real instructions other than the packaging, but just look at the results! The results I achieved using my own filtered water and 24 hours of wait time are commendable! By simply taking the 4 Sphere Mold apart, I was pleased to find 4 pretty clear ice spheres, and a clear ice slab above and one below that could be broken into large irregular chunks for use as well. I used one instead of the "coveted" spheres and it did exactly what a sphere was supposed to do: keep a beverage cold for a longer time without as much dilution from smaller ice cubes melting quicker into a drink. Back to the issue of instructions. Making ice shouldn't need instructions. Right? Well, that would be correct when simply pouring water into open partitioned trays that the water will freeze inside. Those partitions do not have a top, so the water doesn't have a capacity issue. I recently reviewed a 2 sphere ice mold set that also came without instructions. My 2 attempts at clear and fully round ice spheres resulted in cloudy ice spheres that broke apart upon un-molding.....one even shot off a chunk at me during the process. This kit/mold is visibly different. The container base is the majority of the magic in my opinion. It insulates the water/ice to allow for the ice to freeze at a slower rate and the excess water escapes above and below the molds. its really good engineering in my opinion. it will take up some space in your freezer. However, if you simply want to have these coveted clear ice spheres on hand for occasional use, freeze as many as you'd like, then store them in a separate container. The mold is really only a mold and in no way a container for multiple sets of ice spheres. Would I recommend them? ABSOLUTELY! With no expertise, I was able to create the desired clear spheres!
