Does the job and well built
After using this toaster in Baja every day for two weeks. I can tell you that this works great! Toasts Waffles, bread, bagels. The steel will color over time due to the heat, but that doesn’t effect it’s performance at all. Clean with steel brush or pad and it’s good as new. A must for those camping with kids. Would for sure buy again.

Toast with breakfast in the great outdoors
If you're reading this review, you are probably thinking what I did a few months back: "do I really need this?" The short answer is no, but you do WANT this. Let me be very specific though, this is only good for truck camping or any situation where the weight and size of your gear do not matter. I would not recommend this for backpacking or hiking. That being said, I really enjoy being able to have toast with breakfast each morning. I tend to rotate the bread every other minute or so, 90 degrees each time, until I get all angles, then I flip it. This seems to make really good toast that is just like you get at home. Just add jelly/jam and/or butter and it's like you are at a Denny's at your campsite, only the people around you smell better, and you trust the person making your food. Anyway, for the price, you can't go wrong with this. I downrated to 4 stars only because it will NEVER fold up as flat as the day you get it. If this more efficiently folded down for storage, I would rate 5 stars.

Depending on the bread, it might take a whilr to toast.
I ordered this little toaster while on a prolonged camping trip. I didn't think we would miss toast! We did. I used a propane gas stove and 4 pieces of bread. I don't think propane has the same heat (BTU's) as my natural gas stove at home so, I always plan cooking time to be a bit longer with propane. I wasn't surprised that it took a few minutes to make the toast. We have a ceramic toaster at home that takes a while to heat up and toast. This seamed to be about the same but, I didn't have to pop the toast to see the color. The croissants I toasted were done licitly-split! No surprise with the the higher fat content. I had no trouble with any corrosion. I dried it two ways. First with the towel and then either open air drying or back on the burner. No corrosion either way. The device was discolored, as expected. This little guy gets super hot! It does cool off fairly fast. Just use something other than your bare hands after it heats up. I'd buy it again.

The VIP of my camping gear
This little guy is amazing, and hands down the best piece of kit I have in all camping gear. It has received employee of the month every month for the last two years. It has one job, and no one else can beat it: make toast. You seriously cannot go wrong with this, but, the tool is only as good as the user. First, it will discolor. You are placing metal over fire, this happens. Second, I don't wash mine. I wipe the bread crumbs off.and.put it back in the box. It's bread, why would you clean it with anything more than wiping it off with a dry paper towel. You wouldn't dunk your toaster in soapy water, why would you do it to this? Third, it makes toast. Watch it, and you are guaranteed to get the quality toast at the level of darkness you want. Actually, this little guy may be up for employee of the year. I know my other camping gear is jealous, but they need to step it up.

It Does Toast but Uses Lots of Gas
It will do a nice job of toasting but most the heat from the flame is wasted. I went back to toasting in a frying pan after 3 days of camping. A frying pan is faster and uses less gas.

Fantastic toaster alternative
For years, I always used a toaster oven because I felt that a toaster, doing only one thing was a waste of space on my precious counter real estate. Then I graduated to a convection / toaster oven which worked really well for everything. In fact, I used it much more than the microwave and if I had to choose between the two, the convection / toaster would win every time. With it, I could roast a small chicken, cook pizza and anything else that goes in the oven - quicker because a convection is made to work faster. I'd found an el cheapo one made by Black and Decker at Walmart which held up really well. The one prior was a DeLonghi - which I would not recommend because it only lasted a year and the knobs ultimately broke off. When I recently moved, I decided to get a combo convection / microwave and thought that because it had a "grill" feature that I could easily make toast. I was wrong. While it is possible, it takes forever and often is a bit gummy or over cooked, not the way you want your toast to be. Poking around I decided to look into a campfire toaster - thinking I could use it on the gas range. This turned out to be a great idea and solved the "toast" problem. It only takes a few minute and the toast comes out perfectly every time. You do have to watch it, however - because it can go from nicely brown to burnt really quickly! This is a great buy - and for anyone who doesn't have a toaster oven (which is my first choice because they are so versatile) - this does the trick!

Made perfect bagels on our campout!
My husband and I first used this over a fire for toast. It is not meant for that so much, but it worked okay. Later we used it on a small camp stove to brown bagels and it worked perfectly. Our kids were thrilled!

Probably better for multiple slices than one, but works well
I wasn't using my toaster oven for anything other than toast, so I purchased this as a lightweight alternative to use on a gas stove. I at first had problems with it toasting one slice of toast efficiently, but then found that if I put some aluminum foil around the parts I wasn't using as well as the top of it, it worked well. While I haven't tried it with multiple slices, I suspect it would work better that way, possibly with a bit of foil over the top. Can't beat the price and the compactness.

Camping toaster
Already had one for use on my motorhome. I now have a new all-singing all-dancing oven at home but the grill is too slow. I haven't found an electric toaster that I like yet (not actually a fan of electric toasters) so am using this on my gas hob as a stop gap. Makes good toast but can't do cheese on toast obviously! Maybe that is a good thing because quick and easy cheese on toast is "dangerous" when I am trying to keep my weight in check. To summarise; it is cheap and rather flimsy but it is only a camping toaster but when needs must it does the job well.

Works surprisingly well for something so simple
Have always been skeptical about these camp stove toasters. Finally bought one to try and I was really surprised at how effective they are on a gas camp stove. Great value for the money and folds up compactly for storage. Just make sure you set up the frame wires in the correct configuration (see the box picture) so your toast comes out perfect.

A bit flimsy
The principle is sound enough, although toasting outside, without a wind shield on the cooker, it takes an age to produce any toast. The support frame needs to fold for storage, but it's a little flimsy and needs a fair bit of adjustment. Not bad for toasting more than one slice at a time.

Absolutely wonderful
This is a great camping toaster but don’t get it wet and it will last you many years .

Works like it says.
Bought this for a friend. They have used it many times when camping, said it was good, toasted the bread just right.
