The perfect electric kettle
I love this kettle! Here's why: Size: This this is the perfect size. So many electric kettles are huge and unwieldy. Handle: The handle is not as bulky as some other models. I found it fairly ergonomic. Spout: The spout pours PERFECTLY. Never a drip. Top opening: The lid opening is large enough to fit your hand in so you can wipe it down when needed. Manual lid: The lid isn't spring-loaded, so it doesn't fling open at you Three-prong cord: A grounded cord is a good idea. The Hamilton Beach kettle doesn't have this. Partially metal lid: Less prone to warping over time. QUICK: Under five minutes to boil when full of cold water. The only negatives: Water meter awkwardly positioned: It's behind the handle. I'm okay with this from an engineering perspective. And actually since I pour water in from a Brita pitcher it's actually perfectly positioned. But if you were holding the handle, obviously not ideal. The top of the handle can get a little hot: Especially when you don't fill the kettle up the whole way and then you wait for the auto-shutoff. Hasn't been a big issue. Slight plastic smell: The plastic under the lid does produce a slight plastic smell when it gets hot, particularly when the kettle is used not full. It seems to dissipate with time. There is no plastic taste. But if you open the lid after it gets really hot you can detect a little bit of plasticy smell. Not terrible, and I think it will mostly go away with time. [UPDATE: The smell was gone within a week.] The less water you have in there, the longer it takes to automatically shut off. This is because the shutoff works with a steam sensor. More empty space = more steam needed to shut it off. Have not had an boil-overs or boil-dry, even when filled a bit above the MAX line, or a bit below the MIN line. It boils cold water in under 5 minutes for sure. But most of the time the water in the kettle is warm, so a boil can be achieved in a minute or less in many cases, I've found. If you have very hard tap water (as I do) consider using filtered water to avoid mineral build up. I originally was using direct from the tap water and within a week or so there was a major mineral build up. Since I switched to Brita water, there is absolutely zero build up whatsoever. This is WELL WORTH the extra investment. Don't buy that cheap $25 Hamilton Beach kettle. This one is perfect.

Fast and just right for my morning tea, as well as my evening cup of cocoa.
I've had a Chef's Choice 673 Cordless Compact Electric Kettle for years. Unfortunately, I wasn't careful about the water I was using. Our tap water is full of minerals that destroyed the inner spout filter. That filter is totally discontinued so I bought a new kettle. Most of the new electric kettles are larger than I need. I am now using filtered water in the kettle and hope this kettle will outlive me. Nope I do not own, nor want, a microwave. I'm just grateful Amazon still had a Chef's Choice 673. Thanks again Amazon!

Leaked after a year
Below find my original rave review. Unfortunately, I've had to downgrade the rating for this kettle. Why? After only about a year, to my disappointment, the kettle has begun to leak from the bottom. It has only used been twice a day, each time heating up a little over a cup of water. I haven't done anything to abuse it. An electric kitchen product should last longer. .................................................................. I'd never been interested in electric kettles. Why would I, with microwaves and stovetops to do the job? The Chef's Choice 673 Cordless Compact Electric Kettle came into my life only because I needed something to heat hot water for tea for a class I was teaching where there were no appliances. I mulled over a number of reviews before selecting this product, and even though the price initially set me back on my heels a bit, I'm glad I chose the Chef's Choice. There is a cord in the base that can be hidden. The interior of the pot, except for a few bits of plastic holding the handle onto the pot, is stainless steel, which I like. It holds about a quart of water, perfect for a couple of mugs of tea or coffee. I like to make my coffee by hand, one mug at a time, using a ceramic filter holderHIC Porcelain No. 4 Coffee Filter Cone . I'd always boiled my water in the microwave to do this. No longer! The water in this electric kettle boils in an exceptionally fast time, about a minute. There is an easy on-off switch right on the handle, and when the water is heating, a blue light comes on. The appliance turns itself off when the water has come to a good boil. Since the pot lifts right off the base, there are no cords to worry about. I feel so spoiled with my new electric kettle, and now I can't imagine any other way of heating water for coffee and tea!

Chef's Choice Electric Kettle
Update: this kettle is still working perfectly after 5 years of twice daily use. This is an excellent product, compact and well priced. If you have limited space, or don't need to boil large amounts of water, it is the kettle for you. The cordless feature means only that it sits on a base and you plug in the base, thus allowing you to pour without having to deal with an attached cord. It is quiet and boils water very quickly and then shuts off. The stainless steel exterior is easy to keep shiny and clean. This kettle is simply designed, light weight, but well built. The inside is stainless steel, so no plastic comes in contact with the water. I cleaned it with vinegar a few times before using and found no metallic taste. Best kettle I have owned.

The top lid doesn't function properly after 3 months
It was good at the beginning for 2-3 weeks. Small, easy to use, quick, etc. Then the lid started to pop open when heating. So the water would not stop boiling. So, we kept pushing the lid down hard. worked OK a few weeks, but the lid gets hot. Any ways, now, after 3 months, the lid doesn't stay down closed. The water boils and we have to stop it manually. Going to the garbage and getting a new one now!

Great Kettle
I just love this product. My husband and I live alone, and wanted a kettle that only held 3-4 cups. It boils very quickly, easy to clean and looks good
