When Cutting Steel, Use This
I was trying to tap a 1" deep hole in cold rolled steel with a traditional hardened steel tap. It was slow, even with Tap Magic cutting fluid and I feared that I might break the tap. Removing broken taps can be fiendishly difficult; I have done it successfully once. This turned what would have been an hour, frightening task into 10 minutes of not at all worrisome work. I have yet to use it in aluminum but I suspect that it will be miraculous. One warning: it is nominally 1 3/8" long but being a spiral point means you will get a bit less than that before you reach bottom. I used a 1/4"-20 thumbscrew to finish the cut to 1 3/8" depth.

Awesome Tap
I ordered a regular priced tap from Home Depot at the same time, as well as had one from work, and this one was OBVIOUSLY in a league it's own! It cut so easily and smoothly compared to the other 2 I have, it really was effortless compared to the other 2. I'll definitely be ordering this brand from now on. Paying that little extra is definitely worth it in my opinion, especially given they're made in the USA! Awesome product

Excellent tap
Excellent performance with the 1/4-20 version of this tap. I purchased it to tap a series of holes in 1/4" 316 steel plate as well as 6061 aluminum. The tap set from the hardware store was simply not cutting it, and a different (expensive) tap snapped off in a trial hole. This tap was like butter. A few drops of Tap Magic cutting fluid and it sped through the stainless holes with ease using a T handle. When tapping the stainless, for every 1/2 turn I reversed it 1/4 turn to clear any chips and ensure no breakage. When tapping the aluminum there was much less resistance and reversing was not needed.

Many better options available for stainless
I had sixty 1/4-20 holes to tap in 1/4" thick 304L stainless, drilled to 13/64. Not knowing how the different taps available would perform, I focused on a variety, including these which were just above the mid point of the cost scale at $14.18 each. They were described as heavy duty for tough alloys and had some good reviews, so I ordered two to try first from my options. My first disappointment was when the taps arrived. The package came quickly, but both taps in individual sealed packets were broken in several pieces each. A week later, I received replacements in good condition. I worked very slowly using plenty of thread cutting oil and found that I could cut a good thread in 20 minutes, taking only a small amount (5-10 degrees of turn) each time before reversing to cut the swarf. Soon came the second disappointment. Despite being very careful, each tap just snapped without warning after forming a thread in 4.5 holes. Of the other taps I susequently tried, one cut 3.5 threads for less than half the price before snapping, whilst another cut 24 holes for two dollars less before its cutting edges began to break off. Each of these still took 20 minutes per hole. The final tap I tried cost 50% more but easily cut the remaining 20 holes taking just 5 minutes each, and clearly is capable of cutting many more. In summary, this tap performed only marginally better than one costing less than half the price and nowhere near what I would expect from one described as 'heavy duty'. For the same outlay it is possible to get a tap which will cut more than five times as many threads, whilst for 50% more, it is possible to get a tap which may cut ten times as many threads in one fourth of the time.

Excellent!
I had several holes to drill and tap into 3/16 inch stainless steel. Taps I bought at the local hardware store weren't cutting it (no pun intended). Even the USA made ones were breaking and took forever to go all the way through. When they worked, it took a half hour to cut the threads for one hole, and I had to use a new tap for each hole; sometimes changing taps out before the hole was fully tapped. I ordered 2 of these taps, and what a difference! Cut my tapping time down to 10-15 minutes, and I got multiple holes out of each tap. I might have had better luck if I tried harder, but I was a little gun shy from the previous taps. Very, very happy with these.

Marginally better than the typical ones at Home Depot but not good for stainless steel.
Might be a bit better than the typical big box store taps buy if you need to tap stainless steel I suggest you look elsewhere. Could not tap through 1/4" 304 stainless unless hole was significantly oversized. It appears to be a simple High Speed Steel tap with a black oxide coating. Since the description is vague there is no way to tell.

Best tap I ever used
The spiral point taps have to be the best taps I ever Used. I wish I knew about them years ago. You never have to keep backing them out like a regular tap. Just keep turning until it is all the way through and then back it out. Works great.

Awesome Tap!
I bought Gearwrench tap and die set a few years ago and while I do not use it a lot, I recently had to tap a 1/4-20 hole through 1/2" thick mild steel. The Gearwrench taps required a lot of in and out to clear the chips out and took a fair amount of effort. I ultimately broke the tap in one of the holes. I went looking for good tap to avoid breaking it again. This USA made tap is 2 or 3 times what others may cost but I will tell you after using it, that is completely worth the money. The tap cut right through the part without backing it out. Pushed the chips out the bottom of the hole. And required very little effort to do - the tap is sharp. I would highly recommend.
