No Canada, no Guarantee
Despite the product details, sadly this hat is neither Canadian-made nor Guaranteed-for-Life anymore, I noticed some reviewers had mentioned the former drawback recently, but since the description promised a made-in-Canada item with a life-guarantee, I decided to order (supplied by Great Lake Traders as I needed expedited shipping---which itself was delayed despite the extra s/h charge). The hat is very comfortable and feels cotton-ish in a great way. Although listed at 3.9 lbs it feels far lighter--as more like 3 ozs. It fits so snugly on me (I ordered a size up, 7.5 instead of 7.25, as many reviewers had advised this caution) that it doesn't even feel fully on. That is, the elevated airspace for the brim rests atop the mesh that is the "ceiling net" around your crown. So you cannot push it down all the way, both cleverly designed for airflow and a deterrent for ripping the brim open by forcing it. Although I guess the hat is neither guaranteed nor made in the Great North, which I had wanted to support by my purchase (actual label says like Apple claims in Cupertino...designed in Canada, responsible for made in China"). I could have bought a similar hat far cheaper that's Asian manufactured, so it's disappointing to find Tilley provides a misleading specification. They charge a premium price, so I trust that even if I cannot procure a replacement if needed, the investment will prove the durability that this label is famous for. I wanted cotton and not nylon fabric, and the little "cold water insert" (think of a freezer-cold pouch) should come in handy soon, as with the broader brim and SPF50 level of protection. P.S. I got olive green as on the tag. But it's really a military grey.

Nice hat, but not cotton.
Wanted an all cotton hat. Bought this by mistake. It was a nice hat but exchanged for the cotton TMO5.

Best hat for sun protection
Love this hat so much!! Very durable, lightweight and great protection. No sunburns at all despite a 17day trip to Argentina and Patagonia. Endured boating through and getting drenched in the iguazu falls. Very impressed and stylish for the type of hat it is.

Made from very light weight material, compromises ability to stay on head without the straps
This hat replaced a 25 year old Ultimate brand hat that I just loved. It was made from heavy cotton duck and stayed on the head in most conditions without use of the chin straps (including in a convertible at 30 mph, but on the highway, I would use the straps). The Tilley hat is much lighter material and I suspect will blow off my head unless I use the straps. I also expect the brim to be too flexible for sailing in any good breeze. Unfortunately, Ultimate stopped making hats and the only Tilley made from heavy cotton has narrow brims and wider are better for sun protection. Updating the review - the brim of this hat is way too floppy for me - I spend my day of sailing feeling like a goofball with the brim tipped up at the wind - and the hat is way too light weight. Tilley's website says a T4 Hiker hat has a lifetime guarantee. Amazon's site also says this hat is guaranteed. I did not realize when I bought this hat that you need to register your hat with Tilley to get the guarantee (and then to make a claim in the future). If the hat does not have documentation explaining how to register your hat, it is probably not guaranteed (and I wonder if it is even a Tilley).

Great, Great Hiker's Hat -- Sizing Issue
The Tilley Hiker's hat is now my go-to hat for all outdoor activities. Light, and an extended 3.5 " brim to add extra protection for the face and back of the neck, and 2.5" for the sides. Also, the Hiker's hat has what Tilley refers to as "wind cords"; one for under the chin and an adjustable one for the back of the head to keep it from blowing off; ingenious. NOTE: Sizing is an issue. I normally wear an L 7 5/8 or 61 cm in most hats. However, Tilley's website, based on the tape measurement of the circumference of my head, recommended a size 7 3/4 or 62 cm approximately. Still, the 7 3/4 was a tad snug but not uncomfortable thankfully (talk about a big head!). If I ever have to replace this hat (which Tilley will replace at 50% of the cost if damaged, frayed, etc.), I will order a 7 7/8; their largest size... Although some reviewers in the Question/Answer section of this webpage stated that the front brim did not pop up when the wind blew, mine did. Had to lower my head to keep it from flipping up but only when the wind blew over 20 mph. Otherwise, the front brim stayed put; unlike another sun hat that I wore a couple of days before... Sooo glad I got this particular Tilley hat. While Tilley has several other hats that also have the 3/4" mesh insert around the top of the hat to provide airflow, only the Hiker's hat has the "HyperKew Evaporative" cooling pad that worked like a charm. I soaked the cooling pad in tap water for 5 minutes per instructions and inserted the pad in the mesh compartment sewn in the inside of the crown. When the wind blew through the mesh insert the cooling effect was greatly enhanced by the cooling pad. Unlike the other popular and less expensive sun hat, I did not have to lift the Hiker's hat to cool off my head. Because of the quality construction, 50 SPF, floatabillity, excellent cooling features and Tilley's lifetime replacement guarantee, the extra cost of the Tilley Hiker's was well worth it. Thank you Tilley for making such a superior hiking hat.

Tilley is the best
The only hat I have worn where people have given me a “thumbs up” for wearing it. And why not? It is a Tilley hat, after all. I left my last one in a restaurant, so I hope this lasts longer, but there was never a doubt about what kind of hat I would choose to replace it. Unmatched quality.

Well-made Hat
This is my third Tilly. I retired my first one, then recently lost the second. The first two were made in Canada. This one is Chinese. It seems as well-made as the Canadian models. This one has a broader brim and you're able to soak it in water and freeze it for extra cooling. So far it's worked great, but it's only been in the low eighties around here. So we'll have to see how it does this summer. Tilly's are expensive, but worth every penny. It even protects from impacts pretty well. Once in a while I'll run into something at work, and I'm always glad I had it on.

Love my Tilley hat!
I haven’t used it much yet but I will once I start hiking in the summer. I used the sizing guide to figure out what size to order and it fits perfectly. Durable, light, and good ventilation.

Pricey, but well worth it.
I do quite a bit of walking, plus my skin burns in the sun easily, and hats don’t typically look good on me, so not an easy combo to shop for. The wide brim works really well to provide shade, the ventilation, plus cooling insert seem to help with overheating. With other hats I’m constantly removing them as my head has gone sweaty. I really like the way that the brim naturally curves down slightly at the front and back. I got caught in the rain last week with the hat, and was surprised to find that it seems to be naturally water resistant. Not sure if that’s just a temporary effect of the manufacturing process or permanent, but it felt like I had my own little mini umbrella! It cost me more than double what I wanted to pay, and so it feels like a guilty pleasure. Great Hat!

Great hats, but...........
Read all the reviews and got what I hoped I wouldn't. Wrong hat entirely and a size 6.5 cms smaller than ordered. These are great hats but ........... Amazon were great with this issue, sorted it out immediately. Grateful. Gave me a lot of confidence in ordering another. Wish me luck.
