Not a pleasing scent

I'm kind of a candle snob, I guess. I purchase many candles and I prefer A) candles that have a nice scent; and B) candles that actually have a scent. I don't think that's a lot to ask for. However, after burning this candle for several hours, I am unable to smell anything, really. If you put your nose right up to the flame (Please don't try this at home), you can get the faint whiff of something plasticky, if that makes sense. But, to be honest, I smell no "scented balsam sweetgrass." There are no "notes of ginger root, sage leaf, woodland grasses, evergreen, eucalyptus, winter berries, cedarwood and sugar crystals." It's just not good. I guess the only nice thing about the scent is that it's not very strong -- because you wouldn't really want this filling your house. With all of that said, however, there seem to be many reviewers on here who really like the candle. So, just keep in mind that this is an opinion only. As for how the wick burns, it's fine, so if you want to take a chance with this candle, it will perform its basic functions. And with it being soy, you won't have to worry about soot or black marks anywhere. I'm also not seeing how this candle will give you 60 hours of burn time. I've used it for about 8 hours and it's nearly half gone. Overall, it's difficult for me to recommend this candle. I'm not a fan of the subtle scent.

The scent reminds me of sweat cream and burnt sugar

Scent notes: In my opinion, this candle doesn't smell anything like any of the scent notes listed, and I find the sweet espresso name to be fairly misleading. The scent notes I picked up on were of sweet cream and burnt sugar; I'm not kidding. Scent projection: Given the unpleasant scent of this candle, I suppose it's quite beneficial that it's scent projection is very weak. This is not a candle that's going to fill most rooms with any level of scent. Burn time: I can't confirm the listed 60 hour burn time because we didn't finish this candle. However, we did use it for around 12 hours, and it was already 1/4 of the way used. Bottom line: Nobody in my home was a fan of this candle. The scent is quite unpleasant and weak. 2 stars

Sweet scent, looks great. The wick was buried though

I'm so glad I was able to dig out the wick on this candle because it smells and looks amazing. When I received the candle, I had to burn the wax and dig with a piece of cardboard to unveil the wick though. I don't know what happened in the production for this one but it was a few millimeters down. Luckily I found the wick and now I can use this candle and let it burn for a long time.

Attractive, subtly-scented open-jar candle

There is no lid that comes with this, which I didn't realize until I opened the box. Just FYI, as I usually buy jarred candles with lids and extinguish them by putting on the lid. This has a nice, subtle scent, which you mostly notice when sniffing the unlit wax. The black jar gives it a sophistication. I use candles like these in my open kitchen/living room to get rid of cooking smells. If you let a candle burn for several hours after cooking dinner, it really makes a difference.

Unpleasing Fragrance

The description of this product is misleading, it states the fragrances are scented balsam, sweetgrass, boxed glass soy blend candle has scent notes of ginger root, sage leaf, woodland grasses, evergreen, eucalyptus, winter berries, cedarwood and sugar crystals. This sounds wonderful, however, what I received were fragrances of coffee beans, coconut milk and sugar that is cloyingly sweet and not pleasing at all. The box the candle arrived in was somewhat beat up and you could smell the fragrance before the box was opened. Very unpleasant scent.

Pleasant Fragrance

Main Mesa's luxury soy wax candle in Sweet Espresso is fragrant, slow-burning, and giftable. I find that most scented candles tend to not have much of a scent, but this candle certainly lives up to its name. Its fragrance is apparent, without being overpowering, and can be smelled whether close up or across the room. The box states "Sweet Espresso, with notes of Coffee Beans, Coconut Milk, and Sugar", which I find to be a spot-on description of the product. As stated, the candle has a light scent of sweet coffee, with a long burn time. It's nice, subtle, and a perfect scent for snuggling up near a fireplace on a cold evening. If anything, the item could benefit from a lid, which it does not contain, and I'm not quite sure why there is a disclaimer to not burn the candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time. I did, without any problems. Nonetheless, this is a nice product in a retail box, and is worth purchasing. The wick has a nice flame to it, and the size and weight of the glass is solid and substantial. The candle is quality-made by Illume. Recommended. Made in the United States.

An unusual candle that we find quite beautiful

My wife and I always have candles burning, when we're home, and we enjoy unusual scents and designs. When I saw this black candle available via the VINE program, for review, I was happy to do so. The candle arrived and looks as striking as I envisioned from the product photos on the page. In fact, if you're looking for an unusual candle gift, consider this one. I have to caution: Reviewing food products, spices, teas and candles is a tricky business because each person's tastes differ. In fact, my wife and I have learned over the years that some candles with "evergreen" and "eucalyptus" actually bother my sinuses. I'm not a chemist, but I was pleasantly surprised that this one is enjoyable and doesn't trigger that negative reaction we've experienced before. Once again: That's our honest experience; but things like reactions to candle scents can vary widely. We're very happy to give this 5 stars. And do consider it as an unusual gift idea for a candle-lover on your gift list.
