Champion RJ19LM Upgrade
Used this in a snowblower with OE Champion (Briggs & Stratton rebranded) #RJ19LM. The OE copper plugs aren't bad at all, and due to limited use typically only need to be cleaned. But they do have 2 or maybe 3 flaws that these address. 1. OE plugs will begin to misfire at idle as they start to get dirty. These platinum tip are known to fire better and stay cleaner longer. 2. Platinum tip service life is much much longer. They just don't wear anywhere nearly as quickly as a conventional plug electrode. 3. The outside plating will prevent rusting. Sure it's mainly cosmetic but personally I'd rather not see rust anywhere on my engine. These come pregapped exactly 0.030". Installation is a breeze. I use a dab of silver anti-seize on the threads but not mandatory. I don't use a torque wrench but with a stubby ratchet and relatively low hand torque it is easy to feel the crush washer collapse and seat. Stop there. While the price is about double of a conventional plug, since both maintenance is lower and service life is longer, I'd say it's the better value of the two options. Note that the retail packaging has changed slightly compared to the Amazon photo but the plug itself does not appear to have changed. Edit: as much as I like this plug, I've since discovered the Autolite #XST458 Iridium tip small engine plug, which is the next level of upgrade over platinum but is approximately the same retail price. If you buy one of these, assuming it does not somehow get physically damaged, it should outlast the life of any small engine with routine cleaning.

First pull start.
When I post the title, I have no idea what shape your machine is in. Ours is in excellent shape. It's been cleaned and kept out of the weather for storage purposes. BUT! And a big BUT!.....it was not even close to a first pull start. For the last couple of years, I've been giving it a shot of quick start ether. And no, I don't care what anybody has to post regarding the damage ether starts can do as I've been doing this for years and other than normal seasonal service, I've never had a machine need being serviced until after decades of regular use. Continuing, I have a newly reseeded lawn in the process of germination, so I took this time to replace the blade (as opposed to being sharpened and balanced), checked the oil (it was slightly dirty but not in need of replacement) and I replaced the spark plug. Excellent, Prime delivery to the front door price......gaped the plug at the spec'd 0.30 American standard as the package suggested, pulled the lawnmower over to a level tarmac starting surface and "first pull start." Every American's home landscapers dream, first pull start. :D In five or six weeks, the lawn will come up through all the love one gives a newly reseeded lawn and with fresh blade and spark plug, oil freshly checked......an expected first pull start to cut the newly emerged seedlings. Yes, it's a stupid spark plug and I love it for returning the coveted first pull start. Hope your results equal my results as always, your mileage may very.

Go for it!
Center platinum electrode has a finer point than the standard Champion J19LM. Should last far longer than the Champion, so the story goes. The gold electroplate is a nice touch, and looks great sticking out the top of my Briggs and Stratton 5.0 hp engine on a MTD Yard Machines tiller. Gold does not corrode, and is a good conductor. Did it start the engine on the first pull? Well the engine was cold and I attempted to start it with choke on. It didn't need to be, because it fired right up on the second pull on half choke. But, the best part is it totally smoothed out the motor on both idle and fast, which had been a problem. I bought this plug hoping that would happen, and I'm very pleased. I only let the engine run for a minute, then shut it off. About 5 minutes later it fired right up on run, with no choke. For a few bucks more than a standard plug, I say go for it. I might not have to change the plug again for the life of the tiller with the platinum.

Trust OEM or Brand Names.
When the application needs to be reliable and the cost is not great, I always to with OEM parts. And plugs are no exception. I might buy the odd Champion ('cause they are great too) but generally buy whatever the OEM is marketing when it comes to these small but critical parts. All that to say, these came well-packed in an expiditious manner and installed without any trouble whatsoever. Doh! But the proof was in the pudding. Our poor tractor had sat for two years with an unrelated problem which I corrected before installing new plugs, a new filter, new oil and a new gasoline filter (which was easy 'cause the fuel tank was empty oops). I figured the battery would be dead too but a few days on theSchumacher SEM-1562A 1.5 Amp Speed Charge Maintainer had that old Sears Diehard lawn tractor battery up to snuff! Amazing since it had sat out for at least a year since I last charged it up! Talk about tough. Schumacher also sells this charger, theSchumacher SE-1-12S Fully Automatic Onboard Battery Charger - 1.5 Amps which is connected to the Optima battery in my Miata* when it's stored for the Winter. BTW, Sears also sells these battery chargers under their name; same great stuff. But I digress ... Anyhow, she started right up on the first crank. Nothing like new plugs, gas and a full battery.

Packaging not correctly labeled
I got a blisterpack labeled 5062, not 5062K as in the photo of the platinum spark plug on the website. Nowhere on the blisterpack I received did it have the word platinum, as it did in the photo on the website. However, I examined the plug tip on what I received and I believe it is a platinum plug - the electrode in the center of the plug is machined to a much smaller diameter than the electrode on a standard plug. I'll use it. Made in China.
