A basic sighting compass— keeps you pointed in the right direction.
Excellent shipping time— got it right away. It’s a basic wrist compass with a plastic housing so you can’t expect the best performance. Some things to note: You’ll probably want a better strap. The included Velcro strap is thin and scratchy. I replaced mine with a stretchy cloth band. Much better. Note the compass doesn’t have removable posts for the band. It’s a fixed plastic housing. Setting a bearing sometimes moves the north needle if the compass is not level. Not really a big problem but just make sure the compass is level when following a bearing. A bearing is followed by sighting through the window which is read 180 degrees from your actual direction of travel. That’s why (geograohic) north is at 180. If you don’t get this, maybe a sighting compass is not what you’re looking for. There is no correction for magnetic declination or grid north offset. If you’re following a predetermined bearing, you have to know how to correct for this and add or subtract accordingly. Basically it’s an excellent sight and go compass or a reliable check on your direction when visual landmarks are out of view.

Good little Compass for the price.
Being able to find your direction, North, and/or navigate in general is a great thing. Like everything you'll need the skill to use this tool and I admit I'm a little rusty. This little guy is great for quick, general directions, or a quick check on a heading when navigating, hiking or whatever. But I wouldn't use this as my main navigation tool. Pros: It works. The arrows are easy to see and the bessal rotates for declination or setting your heading. There is a little sighting system that uses a notch and post like a handgun sight. But they are very small and the lower the ambient light gets, the harder it will be to find them. Wearing it with a watch does not mess with the accuracy as far as I can tell. Cons: The discription said it was liquid filled and mine was not, however it still works and I found no cracks, leaks or wetness inside the packaging when I got it. It can be a pain to get it level because the disc inside likes to wobble a lot, and because there isn't much room for wiggle it will stick to the plastic. It takes a couple second to move your wrist around to get it level. It feels... cheap. The plastic, the construction, the wrist band leaves a lot to be desired as well. Overall: For $25-30 it's a little pricey for what you get. If you are a sweaty guy like me, the wrist band will get very uncomfortable and itchy over time. Not a huge deal, but defiantly annoying. You can always loop it through the shoulder strap of your backpack, hiking bag, rucksack or plate carrier. Leave the strap loose enough that you can lift the compass and get it level and do your direction checks that way if the wrist band sucks too much for you. I flip flop between both depending on the day. If you are just getting into land navigation, or are a poors like me and can't afford a fancy GPS or Garmin unit this is the way to go. Although you can never go wrong with a lensatic compass. I know Suunto makes a traditional compass too if you don't want to pay $100 for a lensatic.

A metal case would have been nice...
At $35, I wasn't expecting it to be very substantial, but I can't help but think if they had put it in a stainless steel case, people would have gladly paid a little extra. The strap is complete crap, but the compass itself is competently accurate. You sometimes have to give it a little shake for it to engage with magnetic north. I like the little bearing window. (You do have to orient yourself (pardon pun) to the fact that in its face, the number where the arrow sits is 180° not 0°, as your bearing is read through the tiny window on the bezel's edge.) Get yourself a better strap at Walmart for $10 bucks, and don't beat up too much on it, and it's a decent way to get your self home!

Nice wrist compass
Nice and large but not too large. Only issue is that sometimes it doesn't spin freely /immediately . Just make sure you are holding it level and double check reading my rotaing a few times.

Bigger than I thought, but I like it.
I wanted a small but reliable compass to wear on the same band as my wristwatch, an Air Force issue quartz analog watch. The M9 comes with a velcro band but it also fits just fine on a 20mm nylon "NATO" band. My wrists are not particularly large, and the M9 is 40mm in diameter, the same size as my watch. I expected it to be smaller. But for that size you get excellent readability. Because the diameter of the M9 and my wrist size, I'm having to wear the M9 nearly on the opposite side of the wrist as my watch. Trying to mount it on the side of my wrist puts it right up next to the watch, which looks strange, and puts the flat bottom surface of the M9 balancing against my wrist bone, which feels strange. On the underside of the wrist it feels better, but as I'm typing this the face of the M9 is on my typing wrist pad; if you just have a desk, it will be banging against the desk. Out in the field this may not be as much of a concern. Of course on the bottom of my wrist you can't use the sighting feature of the watch unless you rotate the band 90 degrees, which works fine. One negative: the M9 is sensitive to being oriented flat when reading it. If you have it at even a fairly minor angle the rotating disk will bind. Ditto when using the sighting feature. [Later thoughts..] I will probably end up ordering a Suunto Clipper compass for my watchband and use the M9 as a backup, backup, compass. A Marathon Wrist Compass is also apparently smaller than the M9, but unlike the Clipper does not have a rotating bezel.

Exceeded expectations
I bought this for one of my land surveying crews that use GPS to stakeout points. It’s really handy for a quick north orientation. I bought one to try, and since I’m satisfied with the product, I’ll be ordering more. Considering the Suunto is basically the same (30$ more), I would recommend this affordable version. Plus these are a lot cheaper to replace.

Shortly after you put the compass against your wrist, ...
Shortly after you put the compass against your wrist, the mechanism gets compressed, yielding inaccurate readings. The amazon US reviews also reflect this but the UK ones do not. Of course, amazon delivered promptly and it is a fault with Suunto having made the compass in such a fashion. Interestingly, my cheaper Silva compass is far more accurate on the wrist than the Suunto, which at times can give readings almost 180 degrees wrong due to the mechanism getting 'stuck'.

As good as you are with navigation
Like the brand, it's as good as you are with navigation, negative thoughts is the strap is to rough and it can scratch your self

It’s good, but the strap is rather long for me.
It works well. But the strap is just too long, goodness knows how small women cope. We are not all lardies, even in the UK

10 out of 10
Replace the velcro strap, perhaps with one from an old G1098 watch & this is perfect. Easy to use, clear as a bell, luminous by night, what's not to like? I've added a little whiting to the aiming point on the bezel, just to make things easier in low-light. This is handy on the wrist or would be easy to attach to a bergen shoulder strap for quick reference too. All in all, I give this 10 out 10... just as we should expect from Suunto
