Hot, great tasting coffee in a Flash!

Beware, proper setup is extremely important with this coffee maker. Follow the simple instruction sheet before plugging in this coffee maker. Basically, fill it with 2 to 2 and 1/2 carafes of cold water first. After plugging it in, turn on the power switch and wait 15 minutes for the 70 ounces of hot water to heat to 200 degrees. Then pour anywhere from 20 ounces to 50 ounces of cold water in the front reservoir. Yes, I really like that you can pour water in the front and without a spray head in the way. Keep in mind that as soon as you close that lid to the reservoir the coffee will start brewing immediately. Thats why it's so important to have the carafe in place with the lid turned to the closed position (the arrow points to the front of the carafe where the pour spout is.) Now you can close the lid and watch the magic happen. It takes only 4 minutes to brew a full pot (50 ounces) of hot, robust coffee. There is no pause and serve feature, lcd window with timer, brew strength selector, special cleaning cycle, or audible alert when the coffee is finished brewing. However, that also means there is less to go wrong and that means you will experience increased long term reliability. For example, there is no pump to go bad or become clogged over time. I love the simplistic beauty of this artful, well constructed and thoughtful design. Most competitors have plastic water reservoirs, because the water is heated as the coffee is brewed. This Bunn has a stainless- steel water reservoir that will never give off a plastic, artificial taste. Thats worth a lot in my book. One final thought, if you will not use the coffee maker in 3 or 4 days, by all means turn it off. The water stays at a constant 200 degrees and it evaporates over time. In 5 days or less all the water will evaporate and expose the heating element to air. This will cause it to burn out in short order. In this respect it operates like the hot water heater in your house. The heating element must be kept in water while the power is on. Oh yes, I love the 3 year warranty, that's rare these days for a coffee maker.

Coffee Snob ???? happy!

I drink coffee like I should drink water. As a night shift nurse coffee is my life line. I love the taste of the coffee from this machine. I upgraded from a Nija coffee machine and now I wish I had done so years ago. It's definitely not as tech savvy as the other brands, there is no programming or clock to mess with and you can't pause the drip to steal a cup mid brew. However brewing only takes about 5 minutes if you leave it plugged in so that the water stays heated. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee at a good temp for about 2hrs before it starts to cool off. Overall I'm super happy with this purchase. It really brews a superior cup of coffee!

Very simple, fast and reliable coffee maker. This coffee maker doesn't use a pump like a lot of coffee makers so there are no moving mechanical parts in the machine except for the plunger that releases when you add water and close the lid causing a water suction/gravity flow of hot water to the coffee grounds, from the heated water tank. This is great for very fast brewing, and not having to worry about a water pump getting nasty and gunked up or breaking. There are some down sides to this coffee maker, you need to set up the coffee maker by adding water into the tank before plugging in and turning on the machine for the first initial use, the water is always hot and ready for fast brewing that means it could potentially use more electric than other coffee makers. There are no buttons or clocks or screens on this coffee maker except for one switch on the back for turning in the machine, for me that means there are less things that can break over time, that also means there are less luxuries. Another thing you will want to do is buy the BUNN coffee filters that are taller than regular filters, if you use regular filters there is a good chance the coffee grounds will overflow into your coffee. One thing I don't like about the coffee maker is that the coffee grounds holder slides in with a fair bit of resistance almost enough to move the coffee maker from it's standing position, I would imagine it would break itself in naturally over time. I added USDA food grade lube to the sliding part which basically solved the problem. This coffee maker is for people who want a fast, reliable, coffee maker that makes good tasting coffee, without the added features many coffee makers have, which is perfectly fine with me.

Good Product

Cold coffee. Poor design. Expected a lot more from Bunn.

This product is completely frustrating to use. The instructions are easy to follow, but it will not make hot coffee by following those Instructions. The instructions tell you to turn the power switch on after filling the reservoir, then close the lid and it will begin to brew. This will not get you hot coffee, the only way to do that is to leave the power switch on 24/7. The top of the carafe has a fairly large open hole, so if you can even get hot coffee, it will get cold very quick. I’m very surprised that I spent $276 on this unit and it has this issue. This coffee maker has an internal reservoir where you can store two additional carafes of water. I suspect that’s why you will always get cold coffee unless you leave the switch on all the time. Bunn really needs to correct this issue and make this unit better if they plan to continue charging people almost $300 for this unit. As-is, I wouldn’t pay more than $30 for this unit. I was extremely disappointed with this product. All they need to do is make one small change and this would be a product I would rave about. I would not recommend.

Awesome Coffee

Had a Bunn coffee maker before but hesitated due to price. Makes a good cup of coffee and the carafe keeps it hot for hours. No more cooked coffee. Only have 4 stars because of the price.

Almost perfect coffee maker

Very easy to use. Does exactly as it says and will Brew in 3 minutes. Only improvement I would ask for would be a larger carafe. The 10 cups it makes go much too quickly with regular size mugs.

Excellent, love it, but you should know...

If you love precision, this machine is not for you. A few things you should know: 1. There's no measuring lines in the carafe to measure how much liquid is in it. It's a steel carafe, so that makes total sense. When filling the water reservoir with the carafe, I usually have to either add a bit more water or dump out extra water to get to the desired fill line. Lots of trips to the sink. After a few weeks of using it daily, I got a feel for how much brewed coffee is left in the pot by weight. 2. The machine is constantly on. To brew coffee, I fill the water reservoir and close the water reservoir lid. Once the lid closes, it brews, and there's no stopping the brews until its done. It happens fast too! Within 3 seconds the coffee is pouring. God gorbid I accidently close the lid before the carafe is underneath it. 3. Since the machine is constantly on, the water in the tank is being heated and its evaporating. During weekdays I add the same amount of water with the carafe (I can't be precise though, so I eyeball it and go by the weight feeling) to the 8-cup mark. But on one occasion I left for the weekend, forgetting to shut this machine off, and on Monday it took double the water to make up for the evaporated water. Lesson learned: Always turn it off before heading out for more than a couple days. Other than that, it's so quick to brew and quiet. I love it, but I can see how some precision lovers wouldn't like it at all.
