Super comfortable. Not really wash and wear
The shirt has a great look and it is well made. The overall weight of the fabric is medium to heavy and it is very soft to the touch. I like the look and weight for early spring and early fall. It is a classic denim look and the bottom hem style along with the weight of the shirt makes for a great untucked look. The two button cuffs are good if you like to roll your sleeves up a turn or two by the end of the day. As for sizing, I ordered a large, after consulting the size chart, to accommodate my 42.25" chest. Of note I have a 34" waist. The shirt fits perfectly in the shoulders with plenty of room in the chest. It is very comfortable with zero binding while reaching far forward or overhead. The fabric has just a bit of stretch adding even more comfort. It is a generous regular cut and is a little big around the waist. Thankfully, because the shirt is a sturdy weight cotton, it hangs well without looking too blousy. I knocked off one star because the shirt needs to be steamed or ironed to look wearable after washing. I took it right out of the dryer to shake and hang up, and the collar, bottom hem and button placket were all curled and looked messy. I want a denim shirt to look casual, but not messy.

Hot denim baby!
I have mixed feelings about the Brooks Brothers Denim Shirt. On one hand, it's a beautifully crafted garment, with a prestigious label and a soft, comfy feel right out of the package. On the other hand, it's a new shirt made to look old, and the price tag is definitely higher than what you'd pay for an actual work shirt. As someone who values the process of wearing clothes until they become old and trusted, I find myself questioning the authenticity of this shirt. Is it stolen valor to wear a brand new shirt designed to look like a well-worn work shirt? Despite my reservations, I must admit that this shirt is a lovely piece of clothing. The sizing is perfect and the quality is top-notch. If you're willing to give value to the intangibles of luxury items and the higher processing costs required to achieve the broken-in look, then this shirt is definitely worth the investment. However, for me, this shirt serves as a reminder to go out and buy some actual work shirts and wear them until they become old and comfortable, just like cowboys do.

Love at first button
I'm gonna say what I have to say, but let me start by admitting that I love this shirt. It's pretty much what you might expect if you put the prestigious Brooks Brothers label on a garment designed to look worn when it's new, with all its dress shirt packing accoutrements--the clips, the tissue paper, the plastic collar inserts (but no straight pins)--looking like an old literally blue collar shirt which you kept to do yard work in, with a price similarly enhanced compared to what you would have paid for that work shirt. It's not out there with women's jeans that are even higher end and more shabby chic, but it's it's looking in that direction; and not only is it a Brooks Brothers, it's sewn together from fabric made in Japan in a third country at least for now not completely hostile to the US. "Pre-washed" seems to have passed out of fashion in marketing--the shirt's product page only mentions "enzyme stone wash" as an aside in the second bullet--but whatever you call it the shirt is soft and comfy right out of the package, as if you've owned it for years. I up-sized to XXL after reading the size chart, disregarding Amazon's XL recommendation, and I do not regret this. It fits perfectly. Brand new shirts from luxury labels looking like well worn work shirts are a new category for me, and I am not sure how I feel about that. Is this stolen valor, not to have gone through the long process of owning _new_ denim shirts which gradually became old denim shirts in your service, like a trusted retainer or an old hound dog? I can buy three new long sleeve button down denim shirts from name brand suppliers for the price of this one garment--albeit with the awful burden of wearing them new before they get old. Don't get me wrong. I think this is a lovely shirt and, in some calculus, even a good value. You just have to give value to intangibles like knowing it's a luxury item, and indeed incurred higher processing costs to reach you in its broken in but still high quality state. I admire its cryptic value and do not begrudge it five stars of its kind, but for me, nice as it is, it mainly motivates me to buy some new denim shirts and pay my dues to make them old, just like cowboys do.
