It's nice, but I won't use it forever.
Background - I'm 33/M, and generally healthy although very lazy. A couple of months ago I was hospitalized for severe back spasms. As it turns out, my back isn't too bad from a structural stance, and my orthopedic doctor thinks that with a lot of exercise and strengthening I should improve. So I set out to get off my butt and start exercising. For my 33rd birthday I bought myself the Fitbit Charge. I did a lot of research before selecting the Fitbit Charge. I wanted the clock function if I was going to be wearing it on my wrist. And since I hadn't exercised at all for years, I thought a Fitness Tracker would be a good way to help me establish a baseline for myself and track progress at the same time. It's done good. Although I guess I should say I'VE done good. I got a gym membership and I enjoy working towards my step goals every day. I've only used the web interface once because I have an iPhone and I do all of the syncing and data input using the app, which is pretty nice. Here's a quick review of the functionality of the app for the iPhone: OVERALL APP DESIGN: I like the iPhone app a lot. It's very easy to use. At a glance, it shows you the different things that it tracks on the screen, like steps, calories, water intake, etc. If some of these things doesn't matter to you, you can hide them. You can also rearrange the items so that the ones you care most about are at the top. I keep water at the top because I'm constantly updating it with new data every time I finish a drink. And as of Jan 31, there is not a way to migrate data from the app into the Apple Health app. The only way to do this that I'm aware of is to buy another app (from the App store) called Sync Solver. It cost a buck or two, but it works really well. STEP COUNTING: Very accurate when actually counting steps. The only problem is that it counts a lot of steps that aren't ever taken. When I wear this thing to sleep, I often wake up with about 30 steps. I also accumulate a few more steps while driving. It doesn't count a ton of steps, so it's not really a big deal. And since my daily routine doesn't vary too much (drive to work, drive home, etc.) I can adjust my goal to take those non-steps into account. So it isn't really a problem. WATER: I love putting in the amount of water I drink. I used to drink zero glasses of water a day. Now that I'm doing weight lifting, my daily goal is 120 ounces. It's a good way to keep track of how much water I'm drinking. Inputting the data is super simple. MILES: Not sure how it calculates miles, but I assume it takes into account your height (which you input during setup) and the steps taken. I've never really tested it by using a treadmill. But I don't care too much about how far it thinks I've gone, I mostly want to keep track of the steps as a daily way to compare how active I've been. STAIRS: I disabled this function. You can disable (hide) any of the functions on the iPhone, which is nice. It always seemed to count flights of stairs that I never climbed. And climbing stairs isn't important to me -- I take the stairs every time I can, but it isn't exactly a set goal of mine. CALORIES/FOOD: It takes into account the fact that your body is constantly burning calories - even in your sleep. I guess it's interesting to see that by the time I've woken up in the morning I've already burned 600 or so calories. Neat. I do not input the food I eat. The search function makes it really easy to find packaged foods, and you can also very easily add your own custom foods, but it just seems like so much work to me. If tracking every item of food you eat is really important, and if you have the exact serving size and all of the nutritional info handy, I think it would be pretty easy. But I eat a lot of freshly prepared meals, so I have no idea how many calories or grams of fat are in the meals I prepare. ACTIVE MINUTES: If you hold the button on the band down for a second or two, it starts counting active minutes. Hold it again to turn off the counting. This is a very easy and good way to count active minutes. Every time I go to the gym I turn this thing on. The Dashboard feature of the app let's you see a calendar which shows you the days that you were active. It's great to see at a quick glance how active you've been, and which days you tend to not make it to the gym. SLEEP TRACKER: I like this feature for giving me an idea of how much sleep I'm actually getting at night. I'm not sure how it accounts for my periods of restlessness. I'm mostly interested in the actual amount of time that I'm sleeping, and for that it's great. After using this for about a month I'm seeing that during the week I average about 6hr 45m of sleep. Not quite enough. I don't think I'll continue tracking my sleep now that I know what my averages are. The hardest part about the sleep tracker is using the app to set it to sleep mode. It doesn't happen automatically - you have to tell it when you're going to bed, and then tell it again when you've woken up. If you forget to do one of those things, it screws up the data for that day. Kind of annoying, but I guess I don't see how this little thing could really tell when you're asleep or not any other way. CALLER ID: This works like a charm. It's kind of nice in meetings if someone calls me and I don't have to get my phone out of my pocket. But overall I don't use the feature very much and I haven't come to rely on it. CHARGING: Piece of cake. I only charge mine once a week and that works perfectly. Done and done. ALARM: Waking up to a vibrating alarm is nice, and I have to say it wakes me up a LOT better than I thought it would. I thought I'd sleep through a vibrating alarm, but there's no way I would now that I know what it's like. However, I have to give this feature two thumbs down for two reasons. 1) It says that it's silent. We all know that vibrating anythings make noise, but this thing is quite loud when it vibrates. Loud enough that it actually wakes my wife up sometimes. Not good, defeats the purpose! 2) Despite having a very small black screen, when the alarm goes off the screen gets BRIGHT! It lights up my side of the room and is hard to look at. I was really looking forward to a gentle wake-up. This alarm doesn't provide that. Too bad. BAND: The band itself doesn't seem to be too durable, but I haven't had any issues thus far (after about 6 weeks of heavy use). I take it off to shower, and I clean the inside of the band with some mild soap and water, taking care not to get the charging pin area wet. It does a great job of resisting bacteria and smells, because I sweat a lot at the gym and this thing never stinks. I'm 6'4" and about 220lbs. Based on their size chart I was right between the small and large size. I went with large, and I'm really glad I did. I probably could've gone with the x-large. Their size chart might be off, and I've read other people saying this too. I usually have this on about the loosest setting. My forearms/wrist aren't even very big, so if you're a big guy, you should go with the x-large. As for the screen scratching - I read that a lot of people were having issues with the screen scratching easily. So as soon as I got this thing I bought a super cheap clearance screen protector for an old iPhone 4 and cut out a tiny rectangle to fit the screen of the Fitbit. Works perfectly. I haven't had any issues with the screen now. Overall, I'm happy with the Fitbit charge and I'm glad I bought it. However, I don't see myself using this for years to come. Maybe for another few months. Once I really get into shape I probably won't care about my steps anymore, I'll probably just care about 1) Did I make it to the gym, 2) Did I eat well, and 3) Did I sleep well. And I don't need an app to tell me those things. But for now, it's serving its purpose. It's giving me great information and giving me some extra motivation. I've read some articles that Fitness Trackers are probably on their way out (because

Love and Loath. Great idea and app but poor build quality.
The fitbit Charge is a funny product in as much as I have a love-loath relationship with it. I love the fact that it monitors my movement during the day and at night, but I loath the build quality. I'm writing this review after 18 months of ownership. First lets talk about the good stuff. Most of this is to do with the app and applies to all Fitbit trackers, not just the Charge.I'll start with the hardware side first tho. The charger is small and easy to use. It would be nice if they supplied a slightly longer cable as it can come loose or be easily knocked out. The battery is good. I get a good week between charges and only take it off when I shower. The display is clear and easy to read. The vibrating alarm is a revelation and the way I now wake up in the morning. It's great. I don't wake my wife and there's no risk of waking the baby either! Brilliant! The step tracking is great. These things will never be 100% accurate, but it's good to know roughly how many steps you've taken in a day, especially when you sit at a desk all day. It gives a good idea of how active you've been and you can compare day to day. It's often this caparison that is more important than the actual numbers. The hourly activity tracker is also particularly good especially when working at a desk as it encourages you to get up and move when you can. A recent article in a broadsheet newspaper (I can't remember which) compared the effects of sitting at a desk all day to being the same as smoking! Apparently it's entirely reversible however by exercising for an hour a day. So, this is an ideal way to keep track of how you're doing. The sleep tracking is also very interesting. It's not entirely accurate and I'd like to see some more sensitivity settings, but it gives you a good idea of the quality of your sleep. Like the steps it's better used as a comparison of one night to another than as an actual indication of a particular night. The badges and goals give you a nice lift, especially when you start using it. It's nice to be praised on a semi-regular basis. These become less frequent the longer you have your fitbit, but by then using your fitbit is habit and you don't need the encouragement as much. Still nice to be told you've walked the length of the Sahara desert tho! Challenges are pretty motivating and can lead to hysteria among your friends if you let it. As long as you have a group of friends or colleagues who use a Fitbit too you can have daily, weekly or weekend challenges for highest step count. Just beware of your friends with short legs who take twice as many steps to cover the same ground! ;) The integration with 3rd party apps is really good. More below. Things I don't use, or use less frequently: I don't use the water intake monitor. I just can't see the benefit personally. I don't use the food planner/diary. The food items are geared more to a US market (or at least they were when I first bought my fitbit), but you can sync it with MyFitnessPal which has a much better catalogue of foods and allows you to scan barcodes with your phones camera (which works really well). I did that for a while when losing a bit of weight, but stopped. You can also use MyFitnessPal to sync workouts too. More below. I don't use the workout tracking on the device itself (press and hold the button). I found that it was difficult to do that and use the apps that I'm already using to track my running. In the end The app I currently use (RunDouble) doesn't sync with Fitbit, but it does with MyFitnessPal. I therefore sync RunDouble to MyFitnessPal and then MyFitnessPal to Fitbit. It sounds like a bit of a chore, but it works really well. I do use the weight tracker to keep a log of my weight a couple of times a week, but I don't use it for a weight goal. I imagine that like the other badges it would be a really good way of motivating weight loss however. The flights of stairs climbed is novel at best. It actually tracks changes in altitude and when I finish my normal running route it thinks I've climbed 15 flights of stairs despite not going near one. So take from it what you will. The distance is based on your stride length that you enter in the app and takes a bit of getting right. My advice is to walk a set reasonable distance (1k or greater) and then divide it by the number of steps you've done to get a reasonably accurate stride. You can do this for walking and running strides. Because I don't use the workout mode the distance is generally less than it should be on running days. I've accepted this as a fact but you can still use it to compare one day to another, it's just not accurate. Now the bad... The call notifications just don't work with my Android phone and fitbit. My fitbit tells me I have a call and who it's from, but a long time after the phone started ringing and often after I've picked up or they've hung-up. I think it's better on an iPhone, but I don't know an Android owner for whom it works. Most importantly, THE BUILD QUALITY IS AWFUL! I know that seems a bit dramatic, but it's true. I'm on my second one (replaced under warranty) and now this one is coming apart. I've attached photos of my original return and my replacement is doing the same thing. The strap just comes away from the body of the tracker. My replacement is not only doing it on the joins in the wrist strap, but also on the sides. It's just appalling that something this expensive should last less than a year. The buckle on the strap is not great. Yes it holds, but it's easy to catch on things and have it fall off or just come loose on it's own. I've nearly lost it on several occasions. The Charge HR sorts this problem, but still suffers from the awful build quality. I have friends with the Charge HR (bought because I loved my Charge to begin with) who have all had to get replacements due to failure within the first 12 months. One of them had 3 in a year because the charge port kept coming apart. The holes on the buckle tend to crack in the corners after a while. This means stepping up or down and is fine for a little while, but again means a very limited lifespan. I would NOT buy the Fitbit Charge again given my experiences. I still really like Fitbit and the app. The customer service has been excellent, but the Charge is just not fit for purpose. My previously mentioned friend who had 3 Charge HRs in a year eventually got a refund and bought the Blaze instead. That seems to be brilliant and because of the way it attaches to its bracelet it should fix all of the problems with the Charge and Charge HR. I'd get one of them if I were you or lot at the alternatives from other manufacturers.

Nice product and features- only battery drains faster
If you really are exercise freak and like to count your daily calories and other features of this product then only buy this product. after a month use I found that battery is draining so fast that I have to charge the device every another day. So I suggest you kindly take reviews of the product online in any forum or helpdotfitbitdotcom and then only go ahead buying it. Overall product is superb. Only battery issue is there. And amazon does not take care of replacing this product as there policy term is 10 days. And for your information within 10 days no miracles happens it only happened on 11th day. so kindly note my experience and then only buy this product. Or simply buy it from your local dealer, with whom at least you can fight for your right.

Good for sleep measurement, stucks steps taken and floors climbed
I got this for 8000/- in sale. So many of my peers and friends had already bought it and that led me to try it out. This claims to count steps and sleep accurately, but it doesn't do a good job of counting steps. It increments the step count even when am driving my car/bike. Can't really tell the floors-climbed because many times I also use lift in my home building and office. Sleep it counts quite accurately. For other things it's useless. I've sold it after 2 months for 5500/-

Excellent Activity Wristband
Excellent product from Fitbit. Excellent service by Amazon. Fitbit: Amongst all activity wristbands in the market, I feel products offered by Fitbit are amongst the best (together with the Apple Watch). However, because of the price, I prefer Fitbit. The Fitbit Charge is also very accurate in terms of what it measures. Amazon: I ordered a Fitbit Charge Wireless and it came with a defect. I requested for it to be replaced. No problem whatsoever. It was picked up the next day and a replacement was delivered within 2-3 days. This is not always the case, when you buy from a regular retail shop!

they are fantastic. They were unable to replace my exact Fitbit ...
Within the first month of having this Fitbit, it would randomly shut off and have to be recharged when the battery was nowhere near dead. After a month or so the hard plastic piece broke and then the band itself began to peel off of the plastic. I contacted Fitbit customer support and I have to give it to them, they are fantastic. They were unable to replace my exact Fitbit so they gave me an Alta as a free replacement. I love it. It's far better than the Charge and actually worth quite a bit more. They definitely get 5 stars for customer service... but this product is garbage... I guess that's why they discontinued it and went with the Charge 2 haha.

Expensive, but doesn't appear that premium
The product make is fragile. Does not look that premium for the price that is paid. The accuracy of steps taken and periodic report that it gives you are good, if you are a fitness freak you really freak out with this gadget. The feature of caller I'd getting displayed etc is not so a useful feature, as per my usage. Battery is quite solid no issues, easy to set up etc. The large model is quite enough for all people, I suppose. It easily catches dirt, due to the ribbed rubber strap, may be hard to keep it clean.
