Initially wasn't sure if it was actually a Bosch part(?) [Updated Confirmed as Authentic]
Original Review: Rough, pitted construction with a good bit of rust and no makers marks or model stamp. Considerably lower quality construction/finish than all of my other Bosch SDS Max components. Of course, the tamper is meant to pound ground so finish is not a big consideration, but this piece is suspicious as it does not match Bosch's product info or other retailers examples. Was sold and shipped from Amazon. Cleaned up the tamper with some T-9 and 0000 steel wool to knock large flakes and deposits of rust off (put sticker back on after for image comparison). Including a pic of the image Bosch provides of HS1828, which is consistent with what other online and local retailers sell vs the one I received (with the sticker). Sent Bosch the images for reference and to check if legitimate, but no response yet. If it's Bosch, great. If not, it will probably do the job just as well, but appears to be a less expensive, alternative brand's part and probably not getting one's money's worth. UPDATED February 22, 2021 - Bosch was able to confirm that the part received without any markings or stamps is an authentic Bosch part and the current offering. Has only seen light use so far and holding up well/doing its job well. Received with rust and seems prone to it. Just be sure to clean and lube a bit after use to keep from rusting over and rusting tools/bits stored with it. Will update if it has problems in the future. Otherwise, good to go.

Great for hard, dry clay
Bought this for digging a ditch that ended up being cakewalk with a shovel. So this has sat in my box for 2 years now until the day I truly needed it. It works great. That dry, compacted clay with numerous chunks of old bricks and fist sized gravel was no match for this bit. Allow me to give you and idea how hard the soil was- I could not dig below the sod to remove it so that I could recover the ditch when I was done; just came up in little pieces with a shovel. I put this bit in and dug 25 feet from 14 inches deep to daylight a drain in about 20 minutes. Took more time to clean out the ditch with the shovel. The one caveat, this is the 16 inch model and I realize now that I should have gone with a 30 inch model. It sits at just the right height to make your back hurt a bit when standing to use it. I intended to use it for electrical ditches that run 24 inches deep but I think having the other length will help and use both. 30 is too long when on your knees and just starting, 16 is to short once the ditch is deep. If you are trying to choose, go long first then short; would be my advice. After looking for this, seems they no longer make the 24 or 30 inch versions of these, so I would by the SDS plus adapter and one of the 19" versions of this blade that comes in SDS plus. should give you about 25 inches of reach.

Works fine but casting doesn’t seem up to Bosch quality standards
Tamper pad works just fine but I am disappointed with the quality of the casting. Our casting is course, unfinished, and the pad is warped on one side. Tapered hole for the rod is well machined (although it looked slightly off-center) and the rod fits well. The rod is beautifully machined which makes the tamper plate look even more primitive.

Bosch HS1827 12" Tamper Plate Shank
It's a little hard to tell from the product description, but this Bosch HS1827 tamper shank is the one you need if you own a Spline-Drive rotary hammer and want to use the Bosch tamper plate with it. This is the tamper shank only. You need to buy the tamper plate that it is used with separately. The overall length of this shank is 12", but it only has about 7" of useable length once installed in the hammer and inserted in the tamper plate. The shorter length doesn't seem to be an issue for me though. The shank is made in Italy from good quality steel, so seems like it should last for quite some time. I use this shank along with the Bosch HS1828 5" X 5" tamper plate for things like compacting crushed stone base for small retaining walls and it seems to do a good job with it overall.

A great ground rod pounder!
works very well with my Bosch hammer drill (until I hit rock). But that's not this parts fault. I'm just happy to find one that fits my old spline style Bosch.

It doesn’t look an original item
Like many other said, the cast is just ok and there is no Bosch marks on it. Overpriced

Too small
The plate is way too small for asphalt repair. Should be at least 10".
