NO- Did not deter the woodpeckers
Our house in southern Fl has seasonal (Jan - July) woodpeckers making holes in our foam decorative trim. I've tried everything on the market and these DO NOT WORK. I placed two on either side of our 2-car garage door, about 20' apart. Next day they put a hole within 3' of one of these devices. You can smell the MA, lovely sweet smell to us and neighbors, birds don't seem to mind it either!!! GOOD LUCK if you have woodpeckers, but don't waste you $ on these.

Trying to grow figs, pears and cherries in the California Foothills can be challenging just dealing with the weather, and now... the BIRDS. During the recent extreme drought, birds learned to hit the various fruit trees in this area for moisture and also for food. As of yet, I don't have any fruit exposed to the birds (May 1) but in a couple of months the first figs will start getting ripe and then... mayhem occurs. So what I did was to call our local Master Gardeners and ask if anyone was using methyl anthranilate as a bird deterrent. As it turns out, some are using methyl anthranilate and with mixed results. Blue Jays, sparrows, wrens and crows hate this product a lot apparently. The starlings on the other hand, are a mixed bag of results. Some starlings seem able to put up with it to get a good meal and others simply shun the area like the plague. I did do a fair amount of research and found this is an entirely safe product to use, when used as directed, presuming the manufacturer has followed all of the EPA guidelines. I'll be back in about two months to update this review and spread the news, good or bad.

This thing is a joke! The birds love it. They come and sit on it and look through the window and laugh and me! Ugh... looking for something new.

Works great for backyard patio
I purchased this product to use on my back patio to keep stubborn birds from hanging out around my barbecue area. It’s working great, it took a day or so but I haven’t seen a bird since I put it out there. Now I can enjoy my patio area as it was meant to be and no more cleaning the bird poo off of my grill cover and concrete!

Pretty cool!
I was at my wit's end trying to figure out how to keep turkey buzzards off of my greenhouse. Once I put this up, they only revisited it briefly and I haven't seen them since. It's great to find something for the crafty buzzards!

Waste of money
So far these have been a total waste of money. We have sparrows on our porch. I followed the directions and now the birds roost right above it. Don’t waste your money.
