I bought these to use installing new knifes on my Delta 5X surface planer. Use caution if you have the same planner. Because of the size they will not fit if you try to set the blades from the top of the planer. They hit the motor. I had to use a mirror and set the blades from underneath. Once I got everything zeroed out, and set my depth to 0.060... It was pretty easy to get everything set (if you can work upside down). After finishing I have a 0.003 variance from left to right, I couldn't account for. It may just be the cutter head. I don't know if I would necessarily buy these ones again or if I'd look at the competition for something that works the same but maybe a little smaller!

Made the task of changing old blades EASY!
I don't normally do reviews but this set made the job of setting new blades in an old machine incredibly easy. Since it was replacement blades I had a reference height to go by. As long as the jigs didn't wander during the setting I figured it would go well. They stayed put just fine. The magnets were very capable and the scales matched each other just fine.

These seem to be a good knife setting jig...but i it was hard to use on my 15" delta planer. There was minimal room to work with...perhaps if these were designed more narrow, or had a small footprint, it would be more applicable with more machines. It very possible i bought i wrong set for my planer, but the jig itself seems like a quality product. Just make sure to read the reviews to make sure it fits your machine. I had to make my own jigs, to use this jig, to set my planer knives...kinda defeats the purpose, but my planer is up and running again :)

Beats factory method
Used it today to setup 24" Northfield Planer in my school shop. It was easier that the factory method that I have been following for 30+ years. Good thing, too, since I am getting too old to lean over a planer top for hours to set up new knives. My planer setup assistant for this job is 81 years young - ya know how hard it is to find new, young shop teachers? At a time when we need to gear up to teach shop classes again to get this country back in the manufacturing column!!!!!!!

worth the money
makes a complicated job easy, put three blades in my craftsman contractor series 12.5 inch thickness planer in about an hour an a half. calibrated jigs on cylinder then set blade height to old blades on both jigs before removing old blades. put new ones in, jigs magnets held them in place while i set and tightned. easy peasy. fired it up cuts smooth an true. i highly recommend these jigsBig Horn 19612 Planer Knife Setting Jig

on the fence with these. well made product but didn't work for what I tried. might work better for some one else. will keep them as might find them better suited for something else I'll do in future.

So so product
I never did figure out the graduations on these things. When I removed my knifes I found out the holder has height adjusters built in so I returned these and bought a digital height gague instead. These jigs are mostly plastic and not real accurate. I think a pair of simple bar magnets could do the same thing. Just set the knifes flush with your outfeed table.

Good product.
Made setting the knife blades easy and quick. Took me about 45 minutes the first time, probably take 20 to 30 next time. Would recommend the setting jig to anyone.
