Styling Paste with strong and perfume smelling scent
The key to Baxter Styling Paste is that you must use it sparingly. If you use too much, the scent can be over-powering as some of the other reviews mentioned. If you're someone who like to really weight down your hair or need a lot of hold, this will not work well as it has a medium to soft hold. I like the look once the paste dries--it's more a matte, natural look versus a super shiny or slick look. I've had to make adjustments to the quantity I use due to the smell, but once I found the right amount, it was not bad. As a side note, I've used other Baxter hair products and they tend to be fragrance-forward in general.

I got this because the usual product was out of stock AND I did not have any idea what "paste" was. I am still not sure about the difference between paste and cream...perhaps the consistency....but it is the same high quality hair dressing that I am familiar with. It is a little more controlling than the cream but if you put some water on your hand first, it dilutes. And so on. Not a big deal. The entire Baxter line is pretty good.

The scent kills
The product has a very intense scent that I just cannot handle. Some people may like to have a very strong perfume scent in their hair, but I do not. It’s strong enough that people have commented on the scent, that’s a no go for me - will be returning.

Goes in easy and provides excellent hold/control
Works great on short and medium length hair. Provides good hold and control, especially when applied into damp hair and blow dried. The best part is that unlike other products with similar hold, it goes in very easy and it doesn’t tug or pull hairs.

This is not the same product they used to sell in stores. It is awful.
I used to buy this product at Alta and have been looking for awhile to purchase it online. I received it this week and the container is half the size it used to be in retail stores. The smell of the product has also changed- it is awful. It smells like a burned vanilla candle. The label looks very cheap-almost like it is some generic product with a cheap label slapped on the tube. I had to wash it out of my hair after an hour and I threw it away. If you think this is the same product you used to get in retail, it is not. Don't buy it.

Smell is pleasant, but not for me
The southwesterny cactus scent is incredibly distinctive. It’s not a “bad” smell, by any means. Reminded me of what a spa or fancy resort in Sonoma might smell like. But for some reason it really bothered me and the product didn’t blow me away, so I moved on.

Great styling cream!
Found this through my hairdresser and liked it so much that I made this purchase. The cream holds up well, and I like the scent a lot. The scent is perhaps a little stronger than what I am used to from other products, so be aware of that ... it works well as long as you enjoy it :)
