Great bike basket!
This is a wonderful bike basket. I've had one on my everyday road/commuter bike for about two years and it's held up well. I recently purchased a cheap old mountain bike for winter/snowy commute and got another one of these Basil baskets for the mountain bike too. Note in the photos how the basket has an angled cut to make the part that's closer to the bike seat lower than the rest of the basket. This is great because it prevents your rear from bumping into the basket. I previously had a milk crate tied to my bike rack, and kept bumping into the milk crate. No such worries with the Basil basket. On my commuter bike, this basket is installed onto a Planet Bike Eco Rack. The basket fits pretty well onto this rack. I had to move it back (away from the bike seat) by a few inches to get the basket clamps onto the rack. Amazingly, I also have one Wald rear folding basket attached to the bike rack too. The Wald folding basket opening is slightly blocked by the Basil basket, but I only use the Wald basket when I really need to. The Wald basket is normally folded and tied up. I have put well over 30lbs worth of stuff into the Basil basket. When I make grocery runs, I can easily put three half gallon containers, some canned goods, and veggies into the basket (the groceries are usually bagged and tied up). I try to adjust my load so that the heaviest items are right on top of the bike rack. I would agree with another reviewer that if you put too heavy items into the Basil basket, you can warp the mesh on the bottom of the Basil basket. On my mountain bike, the Basil basket is installed onto an Axiom Journey Tubular Rack. I'm mentioning this because the Axiom rack has a slight curve up near the rear of the rack. I was afraid that the Basil basket wouldn't work on the Axiom rack because of the rear upward curve. However, I was able to use the enclosed spacers from the Basil accessories bag to properly secure the Basil basket onto the Axiom rack. It rattles a little bit, but I haven't bothered to actually fix it. For both baskets, I put some squishy non-adhesive shelf liner (do a search for "Duck shelf liner" on Amazon) on the bottom of the Basil basket. It's a little ugly, but a double layer of this stuff helps absorb the shock when going over bumps. This helps to prevent the items in your basket (think bananas) from getting too damaged, and also helps to prevent things from flying out of the basket as it dampens the shock of bumps and rough pavement. I would highly recommend getting a rear kickstand if you intend to put a heavy load in your Basil basket. I recently purchased the "Greenfield SKS2BC Rear Mount Oversize Carded Kickstand" from Amazon and it's been wonderful. This kickstand may not work on all bikes, but it's been great for mine. I now don't worry about my bike tipping over because of a heavy load in the Basil basket. The only thing I wish the Basil basket would have is a place to mount a rear bike light onto. However, as another clever reviewer pointed out, you could use a zip tie to secure a light onto the basket.

Great! Could use better instructions, though...
I've had no problems with it whatsoever (I've had it a little over a year). It's fairly spacious (it's a bike basket...) and not weak. I use it generally for groceries and books. The most stuff I've put in it has been 4 big soda bottles plus some smaller stuff. It can bend a little, but I haven't been able to break it so far. In case you're wondering, I do use bungee cords to avoid having stuff fall off. It's mostly a precaution, but it proves useful when I trip, when I carry stuff above the top of the basket and when I carry light stuff, like cereal boxes. A couple of things that I found weren't very clear when I bought it: - This basket is not removable. Once you put it on, it's pretty annoying to take off. - The basket has 43cm (~17in) in length along its longest point (front to back). There's 16cm (6.25in, front to back) between the screw holes of the basket. There's approximately 10cm (4in) between the front tip of the basket and the first screw hole. You should be able to figure out from there whether it fits with your rack and the back of your saddle. - It does not come with understandable assembly instructions (worse than Ikea!). This worried me for a while, since there's a big bunch of small parts that I couldn't figure out how or where to put them. In any case, I just used the screws that made sense the way it made most sense to me (See the images I posted). I ended up using a setup similar to that of SweetChallenge (see images). My guess is the orientations of things don't matter much. In any case, the holders have this great plastic/rubber coating that gives them a huge grip, so you can probably place them however you want and it will still work. This coating does not prevent scratching, btw. It scratched my rack.

Exactly what I wanted
I just got this, and finished installing it in about 15 minutes. 10 minutes of that was attempting to decipher the instructions before I decided to fly by the seat of my pants and go by trial and error. (The instructions are in Dutch, I think). Everyone says it's portable, which I'm confused as how it is - it screws to the rack, so I don't see how it is portable. I'm okay with that as I carry bags of things and they actually make liners you can put in your basket; but if you're looking for a basket that lifts off this is not the one. To install: screw, washer, basket in between, plastic separator to prevent warping, into the metal bracket (or the provided washer/nut/screw cap). The hardware it comes with is designed to prevent scratches and rust. This basket is great. It's neither too wide nor too deep, but I was still suprised by how large it is. I'm very happy with it. The moutnting bars are a rubbery coated metal so they won't scratch whatever they are mounted to. I mounted them to my Shwinn errand bike, which actually has a spring loaded thing on the rear rack, and it handled the extra bit of depth fine. Some people say you need "clearance" under your seat for this basket. I disagree; my seat is as low as it can go and has to stay that way so I simply mounted my basket a little further back. It's just as sturdy and looks just fine. I gave myself about 1/4" clearance since my seat is light colored to prevent any color transfer in case of rubbing. The biggest con is that it does make it essentially impossible to dismount your bike by throwing your leg over the rear. I about toppled over my bike when I tried to get off and it took me a second to realize that was the reason why.

Best basket I've had, made strong and holds up Very well
I've have two of Basil baskets 4over 4years and still going strong, large size accommodates lots of stuff and it doesn't much. Is easy to install.

Brilliant back bike basket.
So well made and fits perfectly. Really cannot recommend enough. If there was a downside, I'd ask for a few metal half circles along the top so you could use a bungee of needed. Apart from that, excellent value for money. Really sturdy baskets, will fit a nice big shopping bad easily.

Good basket
Nice sturdy basket, no more carrying shopping on my back! It was a bit fiddly to fix to the pannier rack but now it's on there it's great! A ust have in making your life more convenient :) I recommend (I also bought a square bungie cord to go over the top for added protection against bobbing around and pinchy fingers!

Good product
This is an enormous bike basket but was very easy to fit. I had to purchase a flat pannier holder separately but once I had fitted that the basket went on very easily. It has strips of metal with predrilled holes which you put under your pannier rack and then you have a selection of spacers to suit and a simple allen key bolt to locate it all. Fitting the actual basket took about 10 minutes and it is very secure.

Good but not perfect
I had the cheaper PedalPro basket but that didn't slope away enough at front so I couldn't sit back properly. Enter the Basil basket. I think the diagram for attaching is very confusing. Long story short, I improvised with attaching it and it's on now and sturdy. Doesn't get in way of my backside but also noticeably heavier than Pedal Pro version but not so problematically so

Perfect rear bike basket.
Excellent product. Good size, my daughter is using it to place her backpack in - off her back gives her more freedom. The basket has a great selection of fittings, so there was no problem in attaching it to her rear bike rack. I've given it 5 stars, because it really is excellent, especially for the price, but if they were looking to improve it, (for a premium price), I would put a reflector on the rear, and maybe offer a quick-release mechanism! But, to sum up, highly recommended.
