Well Made to All-Clad specs but made in China
Purchased to fit the All-Clad D3 3qt Saucepan. Excellent fit and match to the 3qt Saucepan that IS made in the USA at the All-Clad Metal crafting location in Canonsburg, PA which I support and hope continues to manufacture All-Clad cookware

Needs more holes around the sides to work well with greens and such.
It needs more holes to allow steam into the steamer basket along the sides of the basket. Greens and products can block steam from entering upper chamber and blow out along where the steamer rests on the pot below it.

Nice steamer, but lid could fit better and could use more holes
Bought the All-Clad 4703-ST steamer and it fits good into my D5 3qt pot. The handle on the steamer is a little shorter than the D5 pot's handle, but I found this allows some room for me to grab the D5 pot handle if I need to move both pots. On steamers that have the same length handle as the pot I would have to offset the handles to get to the bottom pot's handle. Either way, long or short handle doesn't really matter to me as both work. One thing I didn't like was the D5 pot's lid does not fit flat over the top of the steamer. The lid is tapered so at least it still goes on, but it rest on the tapered edge of the lid and not on the flat lip of the lid. The lid still covers the pot fine, so it's still going to steam, but it would look nicer if the lid went all the way down so the lip of the lid rested on the lip of the steamer. Lastly, on my old steamer the holes covered the entire bottom, but on this one they don't. So some water can remain in the steamer until you tilt it to drain away from the edges. Except for the lid and hole issues, overall it's a nice steamer and will work fine.

Fits All-Clad stainless 3-ply sauce pans 8" inside diam.
I spent a bit of time trying to get several inserts for my All-Clads pots, pans and stock pots. Here's what I found: 1. The current All-Clad part # for this steamer insert is # 8701004547, and it is available for US sixty dollars at many websites. 2. It is complemented by All-Clad (double) boiler insert part # 8701004490, which is also widely available at the same price. It is not a steamer. SeeAll-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Double-Boiler Insert . 3. Both the steamer & the boiler inserts do fit 3 & 4-quart sauce pans in All-Clad's "Stainless" collection. These pans have an 8-inch inside diameter. They may not fit similarly sized pans in All-Clad's other collections!!! 4. The holes in the bottom of the steamer do not extend to the outer edge of the bottom of the insert. The holes only cover about 2/3's of the bottom, radiating out from the center. Some people have complained about "scorching" because of this. 5. Both inserts are thinner than the corresponding saucepans they fit. This is not really a flaw, however, since they don't need to be so thick to function properly only as inserts. 6. Both inserts are made in China. As I understand it, all All-Clad tri-ply cookware currently is made in the U.S. Non-tri-ply items like these inserts may be made elsewhere to save costs. 7. There is another All-Clad steamer available that comes with a lid and has 2 loop-style helper handles. It is All-Clad part # 8700800513 and is made to fit current 2, 3 and 4 quart All-Clad stainless sauce pans and casseroles. It is said to be 8 1/4 inches in diameter and 4 3/4 inches deep. SeeAll-Clad Stainless All-Purpose Steamer with Lid . 8. Another (double) boiler insert and sauce pan combo is All-Clad # 8400000266, described as a "stainless steel 2-quart sauce pan with porcelain double boiler." The insert is smaller than the 3-quart inserts mentioned above, is porcelain (not stainless) and is meant for smaller, finer sauces and such. It is not a steamer. SeeAll-Clad Stainless Steel 2 Qt. Sauce Pan With Porcelain Double Boiler . 9. If you need detailed info on various All-Clad steamer, boiler or colander inserts also check out MetroKitchen. They sell through Amazon & have their own website. Search for "All-Clad Stainless Steamers, Double Boilers and Pasta Inserts." They have detailed specs on these items that seem accurate.

This has to be the all time best cookware ever invented
This has to be the all time best cookware ever invented. I regret that I had to go through two sets of crappy cookware before I happened upon this wonderful brand. But in all fairness I am old enough that it hadn't been invented yet when I started to set up house. It is not only fantastic for cooking but even though it has no non stick surface it is very easy to clean. I just run a little hot water in it and it soaks right out. Once I accidentally let some chili burn into it and it seemed welded in the pan. I soaked it and it came right out. When I did the same thing to a cast aluminum pan years ago I had to put a metal brush on a drill and scour it out. If it gets a little oxidation on it just rub a little stainless steel cleaner on it (I use bar keepers friend) and it looks new even after several years. I even bought their tea kettle because it is all metal and can be thrown in the dishwasher. I am slowly weeding out my other tri ply pans and replacing them with all clad stainless. the best thing about this type of cookware is that you can make perfect chocolate fudge from scratch. This is the kind that is made from milk and sugar and unsweetened chocolate and this is the only cookware I used that was so thick that the fudge wouldn't scald on the bottom. Just like the other pans of this brand this is a lovely beautiful steamer that fits two sizes of their saucepans and is easy to clean. I also have the double boiler and happened to find a second one at a goodwill store. SCORE!!! You will not regret purchasing this all clad polished stainless steamer. You will have to will this cookware to your family. It will outlast you.
