Plastic Version
I have the plastic version, and have used it for 1-1/2 years. It works well to grind meat for sausages. It is a little awkward to clean with all the crevasses. However, no regrets. The reviews and Q&A's are all over the place regarding what is dishwasher safe, so I'll copy and paste directly out of the manual: "The following parts are dishwasher-safe, top rack only: Collar, Removable Tray, and Food Pusher. "The following parts should be hand-washed only, using warm, soapy water and drying thoroughly: Main Housing, Grind Screw, Grinding Plates, and Blade."

Excellent grinder attachment
Decided to spend a little extra and get the KitchenAid brand. I’m glad I did! Well worth the money. One thing I really liked was the box that it came in. The hard foam insert inside the box had slots formed to hold each component separately. No loose parts to rattle around. Very convenient for storage! My old grinder was stored in a general storage tub and it was always challenging to arrange everything perfectly so the lid would close. Everything has its place in the original box. Really like everything about the grinder.

NOT Dishwasher Safe
As wonderful as this grinder is, it surprisingly is NOT dishwasher safe. After making sausages, naturally I threw is all into the dishwasher and completely ruined the set. Sadly, had I read the manual first, I might have realized this before destroying my new grinder. My dishwasher destroyed the chrome powder coat, leaving all the metal components dark gray and covered in a black grease like substance that got all over me and my kitchen and was very hard to clean off. This grinder set is HAND WASH ONLY, which seems odd given so many of us will use it to grind and stuff pork for sausages.

Awesome
I had a plastic Kitchen Aid meat grinder for over twenty years, used it weekly. But it finally cracked. So I bought this one, WOW. It's all metal and so much nicer. It's bigger for one thing, bigger hopper, bigger auger, bigger plates, bigger blade. It comes with a really nice storage box and includes sausage stuffing tubes with grinding adapter, and a cleaning brush. What a nice upgrade.

Solid, easy to clean, amazing packaging
Made sausage making for my first time a breeze! Easy to clean, soak everything in soapy water and clean with the included brush. I appreciate that it grinds as well as stuffs sausage with a single unit. I must comment on the exceptional packaging. Often when you buy something like this that comes with a bunch of accessories, they come in plastic bags in a box, and once you open it and discard the box, the accessories end up a loose mess in your drawers or lost. The box this unit comes shipped in holds all accessories in form fitting hard foam. Almost zero packaging waste, a place to store the unit and all its accessories, and they are well protected. Win/win/win. Well done Kitchenaid.

awesome expansion to your kitchenaid functionality
I recently bought this and ground some venison with it. the grinder had no trouble with grinding and it worked flawlessly. it's a really good buy! The attachment is very easy to install onto your mixer. when you're done, it comes off easily and comes apart quickly for cleaning. a brush is even included for cleaning it. if you want to grind meat this is a great buy.

Simple to use and good results
A great addition to our mixer. It is not perfect but it is a great accessory and we have had fun making sausages with it. Quite a bit of the sausage mix gets left in the machine at the end but this provides a good bit to fry off and test. Very happy with this purchase. Remember, you need the grinder and sausage tube, they are sold separately.

Awesome
we have been making our own mince for a year now, as supermarket mince seems to be 50% water. The previous machine was "clockwork" and tended to jam up with fat/gristle/sinew/whatever but this attachment just draws in the meat and delivers lovely mince all the time. Now my son and wife fight over who does it. No workout for me but hey, who cares!
